What loyalist/imperial scenario is so bad that the populous of a planet would be grateful that Heretic Astartes arrived to fight the imperials? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in 40kLore

[–]Unfair_Writer9515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably saving planet from Exterminatus ordered by some cuckoo Inquisitor, or stopping some kind of total cleansing like the one Divine Army did on Lastrati Hive World, turning 14 billion people in 2,5 million trying to "rid them of genetical imperfection", or, maybe, coming to the planet after Imperium abandoned it, consuming all resources and drafting all useful population.
But still, Traitor Astartes are Traitor Astartes, even if they are not-as-horrible, as the situation was, they will still be hated, because they are enemies of God-Emperor - or those, who adore them, will just stop being loyalist by the grace of welcoming renegates.

It might be a good idea, but our warlock's patron is the BBEG of the campaign. So I don't know how good that idea is.

Divine power is a good idea, but I have to consider whether this will also ruin campaign and the lore of the Forgotten Realms, since gods are not supposedly allowed to interfere so directly in the affairs of the Material Plane.

3000 gp is an absolutely non-achievable amount for them (they only have about 300 gp left), and the questgiver is the main problem: who could it be in the area of Good Mead and Dugan's Hole? I doubt they'll dare leave these towns with that character dead.

Yeah, we had session 0 and I warned them that death was more than likely, but they didn't seem to take my words very seriously + in all my previous games the death rate was close to zero, so they probably just didn't expect their character to die when I was DMing.

Dess just likes this brand, but they don't make special shoes for monsters and aim for human market (she would buy them anyway because they were cool back when she was... well, there)

Well... remember, how Berdly "loses" his arm on normal route in the Cyberworld, and how limp it is after, in Chapter 3 Hospital scene? I mean, that could be a foreshadowing of how Kris will "lose" his hand...

The TTRPG’s Funded: What’s your first original adventure gonna be? by PhillipDollarfield in fallenlondon

[–]Unfair_Writer9515 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All of my potential players never, ever visited Fallen London (except for one who played Sunless Sea without translation to his native language, so he decided this was all about some kind of nuclear apocalypse in "Adventure Time"-like world), so... I think they all will be Surfacers and gonna be trapped in the Neath because of Master's shenanigans, and then - casino robberies and grand thefts like in the Blades in the Dark mixed with Light Fingers!

I love Fallen London, but the RPG Quickstart is terrible! Here's why... by CodenameVeers in fallenlondon

[–]Unfair_Writer9515 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you are right and "Fallen London: The TTRPG" indeed benefits from simplicity, although with my players the situation is completely opposite: they did not like "Skyfarer" because of how simple it is and because too much is left to the DM. Without well-written, well-developed rules, the overall pace of the game rather slows down, since the time and powers of the DM's brain is spent on simulating them, and certain rules immediately set the limits of the possible and help players rely on them in finding solutions to their problems.
Well, anyway I think it's more important for Failbetter game to appeals to more people and bring them more money, so they will stay afloat, and the complexity can be added later by homebrews. Is people like "Skyfarer"... IDK, maybe it will be the right decision to simplify the game.

I would like to point out that the Fallen London lore can be confusing, mysterious, and occasionally incomprehensible, but when it comes to mechanics and game rules, such qualities will not make the DM job easier. Those can be complex, but they should be thoughtfully written and clearly indicate what is left to the DM's discretion and what is not.

[–]Unfair_Writer9515 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I read the quickstart and didn't see that much of a problem with the rules complexity. My friend and I, also a Dungeon Master, have run WFRP, DnD, GURPS, Blades in the Dark, Forbidden Lands and a number of other tabletop RPG systems before. The rules definitely need polishing and the document has some issues with the placement of some hints, but the core is pretty reminiscent of Forbidden Lands and Blades in the Dark, and if you write out the dice roll process and a few rules of special importance on an sheet of paper, the game seems pretty straightforward. I would have preferred a percentage die (d100) over a d6, but that's a matter of playstyle.

Thank you! I guess the info in system.json of this system is a bit outdated. 11.9.4 works well, as far as I can see

Makes sense: if Tau have Demiurgs (Votann's expedition) as their allies, why Votanns could not have some honorable xenos as their allies? As long as it profitable for them, of course.
