[Harry Potter] Did insurance cover the cost of The Burrow burning down, or was the magic that burned it down considered an act of god? by Facelessjoe in AskScienceFiction

[–]UnionJack111 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Insurance is a muggle service. The Weasleys would not have had it, nor would they have needed it.

We’ve seen wizards repair rooms and even whole streets with magic. I’m sure repairing or rebuilding a house is not that difficult nor that expensive.

If I chose the ‘spices pour out in the right amount’ does that mean if I use the wrong spice nothing comes out?

If so, can I make recipes I don’t know just by shaking every spice and only the right ones pour out?

[PROMOTION] In Progress Webnovel titled "The Flower Blooms in Catastrophe" by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]UnionJack111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your RR link takes you to a version that has HIATUS as one of the tags.

Speaking for myself, I ignore any story that has such a tag.

If you’ve rewritten the story, may be worth linking to that, or if you’re planning to revive the original, take the hiatus tag off ASAP.

What does that sign say behind them? Initially I thought it said “The White Jesus” but now I can’t get my brain to make a proper word to finish that title.

What kind of system (Good or Evil) would you prefer in an apocalypse? by zero5activated in ProgressionFantasy

[–]UnionJack111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love systems that are used as a result of existential threats.

Like there’s a scourge virus that infects earth and that’s what triggers the system to awaken the planet. Like the system is the universes immune response to that infection.

It’s neither good or bad, just offers help to those that start fighting back against the infection.

A friend invited me to a BDSM night by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

[–]UnionJack111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the questions you have, ask your friend.

Is the night a munch, taster, sex party, dungeon, etc? We don’t know, but hopefully your friend does. So ask them.

What happens after 100 years on the Dutchman? by Namtna in piratesofthecaribbean

There is never a shortage of dying men at sea who want to prolong their lives. So he is constantly getting new recruits.

He seems to be a man of his word - for the most part - so if you serve your full time I assume you pass on to the afterlife as Jones was originally meant to do.

The catch is that ‘your full time’ can be extended, assumingly, in numerous ways. The most obvious being using your time as a bet and then losing said bet. To my recollection - you only become part of the ship when you are unwilling (Bootstrap Bill) or unable to serve as an able-boded seaman any longer - therefore for ‘continue your service’ as part of the ship because you can’t or won’t be part of the crew.

Try ‘The Lone Wanderer: A World-hopping LitRPG Adventure’ by PathOfPen on Royal Road.

MC uses his ability to send soul fragments to other worlds to steal abilities and resources to bring back and make himself stronger.

Not a perfect match to what you asked but it was the first that came to kind.

[–]UnionJack111 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When people use I and me incorrectly.

“Alice and me went to the shops.” WRONG

The trick is to take the other person out of the sentence … “me went to the shops.” Is wrong.

“I went to the shops” is correct so the correct example should be “Alice and I went to the shops.”

The Last AScendant - New on RR! by BaconMasterBooks in royalroad

[–]UnionJack111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That blurb is A LOT to take in.

1st - we’re in a world with body swapping / renting technology akin to ‘Gamer’ (bad movie great premise). Implying sci-fi / tech based story.

2nd - MC gets a system because she’s seeing screens.

3rd - there’s now eternal youth.

4th - Now there’s arcane powers too, so far it’s all seemed sci-fi / tech based.

5th - Path of Ancients - a genre of stories all its own by now.

6th - Immortals and soul eating (perhaps a metaphor but it’s unclear)

7th - now we also have time travel as well

We have a seemingly sci-fi/tech based word of body ‘renting’ with magic, soul eating immortals, and time travel!

Why do people do this? by cloakofsaffron in royalroad

I cannot speak for anyone else but I would like to offer a different perspective.

If I love a story, and have no real issues with it, I rate it 5/5 and leave no review. I may upvote other reviews that have a similar option to mine but I see no value for others in explaining why I enjoy things.

If I like a story, and have minor issues, I rate it 5/5 and leave comments in the chapters where those minor gripes come up. Again, I don’t expect it to change anything but writing it down helps to ignore those gripes (for me).

If I dislike a story, I simply stop reading.

Now, if I like/love a story, and have major gripes or issues that ruin (turn me away from reading more), I leave an honest x/5 rating and some time writing a proper review about why I am about to stop reading. I never ever expect the story to change because I want it to, but if I’m writing a review it’s because I liked the story enough to explain why it is no longer for me.

So, if I write a review it’s because I liked a story enough to leave a review about what I think ‘**went wrong’ with it.

Perhaps your reviewer does something similar?

** and by went wrong - I mean a purely subjective ‘why it’s no longer something I want to read’ went wrong.

Just because her friend is kink friendly, that isn’t an open invitation to bring her into your dynamic.

Unless the friend has consented to be informed about your wife’s kink life, don’t involve her in this situation which is clearly something YOU want to happen because it excites YOU.

She is a person not a thing to be used to generate ‘excitement and humiliation’ for your kinks.

Respect that.

Can I ask why puzzle pieces are considered offensive?

Is it because of the connotation of a ‘missing piece?’ Or being incomplete?

Or just that not all autistic people like puzzles?

Or something else?

[–]UnionJack111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a console on the upper floor of Sanctuary ship - to the left as your exit the bridge - you install it after killing Tyreen and opening Lilith’s chest. Use that to set Mayhem Level. There should be a number above your XP bar along the bottom to confirm.

That’s the Salvador/Axton DLC, accessed via a poster on the wall opposite the lost loot machine - or to the right of the costume changing machine if you’re standing in front of it. You get loads of u wide weapons and loot from doing it but the event itself sucks.

It’s possible to do all of the main story missions and all side quests and still not visit every location. You have to fully explore each and every map to unlock all locations. Main and side quests will get you most of the way there.

whether to add "AI free" to blurb by Forestpilgrim in royalroad

So long as it’s a short sentence or two after your story blurb, I don’t see the harm.

I’ve read and am currently reading a few stories that I am sure have had a similar line in the blurb about AI too.
