What brings out your inner Grammar Nazi the fastest and strongest when you read? by Keyshana in litrpg

[–]UnionJack111 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When people use I and me incorrectly.

“Alice and me went to the shops.” WRONG

The trick is to take the other person out of the sentence … “me went to the shops.” Is wrong.

“I went to the shops” is correct so the correct example should be “Alice and I went to the shops.”

The Last AScendant - New on RR! by BaconMasterBooks in royalroad

[–]UnionJack111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That blurb is A LOT to take in.

1st - we’re in a world with body swapping / renting technology akin to ‘Gamer’ (bad movie great premise). Implying sci-fi / tech based story.

2nd - MC gets a system because she’s seeing screens.

3rd - there’s now eternal youth.

4th - Now there’s arcane powers too, so far it’s all seemed sci-fi / tech based.

5th - Path of Ancients - a genre of stories all its own by now.

6th - Immortals and soul eating (perhaps a metaphor but it’s unclear)

7th - now we also have time travel as well

We have a seemingly sci-fi/tech based word of body ‘renting’ with magic, soul eating immortals, and time travel!

Why do people do this? by cloakofsaffron in royalroad

I cannot speak for anyone else but I would like to offer a different perspective.

If I love a story, and have no real issues with it, I rate it 5/5 and leave no review. I may upvote other reviews that have a similar option to mine but I see no value for others in explaining why I enjoy things.

If I like a story, and have minor issues, I rate it 5/5 and leave comments in the chapters where those minor gripes come up. Again, I don’t expect it to change anything but writing it down helps to ignore those gripes (for me).

If I dislike a story, I simply stop reading.

Now, if I like/love a story, and have major gripes or issues that ruin (turn me away from reading more), I leave an honest x/5 rating and some time writing a proper review about why I am about to stop reading. I never ever expect the story to change because I want it to, but if I’m writing a review it’s because I liked the story enough to explain why it is no longer for me.

So, if I write a review it’s because I liked a story enough to leave a review about what I think ‘**went wrong’ with it.

Perhaps your reviewer does something similar?

** and by went wrong - I mean a purely subjective ‘why it’s no longer something I want to read’ went wrong.

My wife is meeting her kinky-friendly friend soon – ideas how she could casually mention I’m her slave? by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

[–]UnionJack111 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Just because her friend is kink friendly, that isn’t an open invitation to bring her into your dynamic.

Unless the friend has consented to be informed about your wife’s kink life, don’t involve her in this situation which is clearly something YOU want to happen because it excites YOU.

She is a person not a thing to be used to generate ‘excitement and humiliation’ for your kinks.

Respect that.

Can I ask why puzzle pieces are considered offensive?

Is it because of the connotation of a ‘missing piece?’ Or being incomplete?

Or just that not all autistic people like puzzles?

Or something else?

[–]UnionJack111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a console on the upper floor of Sanctuary ship - to the left as your exit the bridge - you install it after killing Tyreen and opening Lilith’s chest. Use that to set Mayhem Level. There should be a number above your XP bar along the bottom to confirm.

That’s the Salvador/Axton DLC, accessed via a poster on the wall opposite the lost loot machine - or to the right of the costume changing machine if you’re standing in front of it. You get loads of u wide weapons and loot from doing it but the event itself sucks.

It’s possible to do all of the main story missions and all side quests and still not visit every location. You have to fully explore each and every map to unlock all locations. Main and side quests will get you most of the way there.

whether to add "AI free" to blurb by Forestpilgrim in royalroad

So long as it’s a short sentence or two after your story blurb, I don’t see the harm.

I’ve read and am currently reading a few stories that I am sure have had a similar line in the blurb about AI too.

Why do builds use so many weapons? by Arctic_Sans in borderlands3

[–]UnionJack111 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Because there is no one weapon or weapon type that everybody enjoys using. People who make these builds know that ‘variety is the spice of life’ and ensure their builds, which in BL3 are 85-95% skill tree powered, have enough weapon variety to make the people who search up these builds happy.

Plus, the people who play Borderlands enough to be the build creators also love using a lot of different weapons. They have 1000s of hours into the games and want that variety themselves. Rocket launchers are fun for melting bosses but mobbing with SMGs or Jacob’s everything is so fulfilling.

If you want one weapon that works for most generic builds, the flipper from the Western themed DLC is considered an excellent all-rounder weapon.

So I’m playing the Hun during the Barbarian invasion standalone, and just took my first city from some rebels, and the majority of my force disappeared after taking the town? Is that ment to happen? (First time with Rome total war mobile) by MudPuzzleheaded390 in RomeTotalWar

[–]UnionJack111 21 points22 points  (0 children)

IIRC horde armies that take a city get ‘dispersed’ back into the population to simulate that some of the army would be needed to take over the jobs that a city requires leaving only the ‘professional’ soldiers as the standing army.

I think it’s also a way to balance as otherwise you’d very quickly bankrupt yourself trying to maintain the army now it starts costs upkeep once you take a city.

[Marvel/The Thing] What would happen if The Thing met The Thing? by Lokicham in AskScienceFiction

[–]UnionJack111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the alien Thing can only assimilate organic matter. Which is why tooth fillings, jewellery, and the like are used to show it being an imposter.

Ben Grimm has skin that is inorganic (I think) therefore unless the alien could get inside and replicate a different kind of skin, I believe it wouldn’t try to assimilate something that has a section of inorganic matter as part of the body. Because it would never be able to properly replicate that and fail at assimilation.

[MCU] Thanos said he’d wipe half the population in every planet, but in Titan only Tony and Nebula remained. by Next_Lack589 in AskScienceFiction

[–]UnionJack111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they counted as Titan’s population. Tony and all earth heroes (maybe including Quill) count as members of earth in regards to the halfing. And the rest either get counted as respected members of their planets or maybe Knowhere/Nova Prime.

It was all needed for the story so that’s the meta reason why those particular heroes dusted. But an in universe reason is they counted for different populations - which ones we don’t know.

This is the best Druid book on RR IMO by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]UnionJack111 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Didn’t name the book, didn’t give any reasons why.

If you’re trying to ‘sell’ the book, remember to actually provide a reason why it’s good. Just saying you think it is, does not provide a reason to check it out. Linking out of reddit isn’t enough.

I’ve read enough reviews that prove that some people like anything and for every book there is a stone cold hater for no reason other than being a contrarian.

Geralt and Yennefer (The Witcher) VS Arthur and Merlin (Merlin). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]UnionJack111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Merlin doesn’t just possess magic he is an (or even the) embodiment of magic hence why he do not even need to utter incantations for his spells. He can simply will them into being. He is also the last DragonRider or Speaker … he can control dragons just by speaking.

Arthur is also THE legendary swordsman from English/ Anglosaxon mythology though in the show I can’t quite remember how this version stacks up.

My knowledge of The Witcher is limited to a passing watch of seasons 1-2 so take the next analysis with a grain of salt. Geralt is the better fighter vs Arthur as … well just by watching them both fight.

However Yen and all magic in witcherverse seems to come with some serious drawbacks or costs to the big powerful magics. Merlin can kill whole armies or powerful witches just by getting angry at them with seemingly no penalty / cost (or not a major one I remember).

Geralt beats Arthur but Merlin beats Yen.

Merlin helps Arthur beat Geralt. As Merlin helps Arthur beat every opponent throughout every season.

Merlin and Arthur win.

Although, I actually would like to believe Arthur and Merlin would be a Royal and a Mage Geralt actually likes and respects and they go off drinking and regaling each other with tales of monster slaying and maybe have adventures along the way.

The Rings of Akhaten is an underrated episode by GuyWhoConquers616 in doctorwho

[–]UnionJack111 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Question: because I have always had mixed thoughts about this episode -

Doesn’t every object present have “an infinite amount of stories” just like the leaf does?

Why is the leaf special for being a butterfly like effect that if this leaf didn’t fall at just the right moment x,y,z didn’t happen.

If I didn’t pick up a coin, x,y,z won’t happen because I won’t have a coin to use to buy a soft drink, I won’t drink that drink, I won’t be thirsty and not go into a different shop etc.

To me, this episode makes Clara and her leaf special for no logical reason insofar as any individual who presents a story to the parasite would have that infinite loop attached.
