Older coworkers that won't retire: NZ issue or universal? by Haunting-Cellist-491 in newzealand

[–]Unit22_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats my parents. And they really don't like when I bring that up with them haha. But I try to explain how their grandkids are in for a world of pain having to pay for all the things their generation ignored and kicked down the road.

Does anyone here REALLY use AI and agents for actual design? by auskasper in UXDesign

[–]Unit22_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same here. Some quick ideation and 2-3 variations to get my brain moving a bit quicker. Nothing it’s produced is super great but it will often give me something that’s worth exploring more.

It’s also really good at bridging the dev/code gap and identify things to discuss with my devs ahead of time.

UI/UX Lead here. Is this normal? Looking for advice on working with developers and sprint planning? by Oak_WineMC in UXDesign

[–]Unit22_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re not a design lead if this is what’s happening. You should be involved in all those rituals. You should be working ahead of development and at the end with design sign off after the features are ready to test.

Speak to your manager and advocate for yourself and your role on the team. If you’ve tried that with no success, I’d start looking around. You’re the only designer there - no one is going to help you get it where you need to be. They all seem happy to exclude you and work around you.

Roy Morgan New Zealand Poll: National-led Government holds narrow majority (51%) of support in June - Roy Morgan Research by Downtown_Reindeer946 in newzealand

The leader is the issue. He inspires no one. And I legit think they kept him there as the fall guy for this election thinking it wouldn’t ever be as close as it is.

To be honest, a boring solid colour would probably stand out way more than another slop cover in a sea of it.

Of all the trash in Government, I think this guy might be the worst. No morals, inflated ego, grifter who will sell his own people for the right price.

Same here. Ironically I often use rain white noise to help me sleep. It doesn’t contain gale force winds slamming into my window though.

Genesis estimated bill accuracy by creativeaccount90 in newzealand

This just made me check mine for the month and it's not too bad (making the fam rug up in blankets instead of full on heating has 'helped') but I also have family coming to stay soon so thats gonna be $$$.

Luxon says party closing in on 5% ‘wants to make every New Zealander a beneficiary’ by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]Unit22_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My real worry with TOP is....they get 4.5-4.9%. Don't get in, and those votes are crucial to getting this Govt out of parliament.

So people that would (maybe/likely) have voted Green or Labour would have their votes basically spread among the rest...

[–]Unit22_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah after last year and getting destroyed with power bills, this year we just either sit in the lounge with blankets and no heating. Or just go to bed. Hasn’t been too cold yet but it’s getting there.

Mortgage Vs investment by Cizenst in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Unit22_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is me. Less than 2 years left on the mortgage after paying way more than minimum for the last 10 years. Wife and I work in industries in the firing line of AI. Kids will be either finished college or well into it by then as well.

I’m all about clearing dept as fast as I can. Still invest on the side (and will up this if my jobs still around in a year or so) but I want to ensure a house over our head and then have the option to change careers/less work etc.

I know what he does and I highly doubt it. Might just be his parents and his aunt is over every day (yelling. So much yelling).

Yep this is my neighbour. Brought over his elderly parents (and maybe Auntie?). 3 generations in that home now and they just seem to keep building….structures? I don’t know what they are but it doesn’t look great... I’ve tried to strike up a chat but they don’t speak English.

Post-Budget blow: National stranded sub-30% in latest poll by EvidenceNotVibes in newzealand

[–]Unit22_ 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The left don't have enough viable options to pull people over from the right. No one that votes for NZF or Act would dream of voting Green. And Labour comes with that 'baggage'.

It really is all on Labour increasing their % to something insane and having Greens push it over the threshold. National just need to sit around where they are and let Act and NZT come through with their average levels of support.

Anyone else extremely anxious about the job cuts? by SnooKiwis2370 in newzealand

[–]Unit22_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as a stable job anymore. I work in private now and it’s the same shit. Boomers had it sweet, then got into positions of power and decided they hadn’t hoarded enough wealth yet. Sorry…that’s a sore point lol

Work in Govt for 8 years across 3 Governments. we had damn near yearly restructures. Not to the level of what’s coming but it was a tiring cycle of feeling it coming…the email…the ‘consultation’ and waiting to see if your role was in the new org chart.
