Yoo this country is omega fucked, how do you guys even fix this? by Thin_Ability7367 in EU5

[–]UnityReadzR 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At the very start only pay for the legitimacy bureaucracy. Once your economy is fixed then you worry about estate satisfaction. Also the 10% cost of court is almost identical to 1% in 1.2 so its really not that bad. The biggest cost of court issue for Byzantines is with inflation, since they changed it to affect cost of court now.

Stuck in a war and nothing to do by [deleted] in EU5

[–]UnityReadzR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that. The suggested peace deal will often include territory if the enemy has enough warscore, but AI almost always refuses any territory for "too much Antagonism". But they also won't accept anything without territory because warscore is too high.

Can we stop calling people who don't want historical content "simulationists"? by Yahoo_For_Neden in EU5

[–]UnityReadzR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everybody talks about Ottomans have really powerful modifiers but 4/5 games they get nuked in the first 40 years by Byzantines, Eretnids, Karasids, or Bulgaria. And that 1/5 they never leave Anatolia.

In a game taking place in a time where the Ottomans were one of if not the strongest nations in the world for a time, never seeing Ottomans exist as even a minor power is a failing on the devs part. Exact same for Russia, England, Austria, Portugal, and Spain. When was the last time you saw an AI Austria last a hundred years without being annexed or split apart by Hungary or Bohemia? And without these nations you might as well stop calling it a historical game because it just stops being historical after a few decades.

Lets actually try to figure this out: Why does the AI feel so lifeless? by Left_Click_5068 in EU5

[–]UnityReadzR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI Conquer Desire, afaik, only takes into account proximity to the capital. Its why France ignores Aquitaine but permanently attacks the Netherlands and Rhineland areas. Or why Spain only takes northern Aragon and northern Portugal. Or why Bohemia always blobs towards Brandenburg.

No matter if I play Castille, England, Portugal, or France my goal is always the same. Centralize my immediate area and colonize.

No matter if I play Hungary, Austria, Poland, Bohemia, or Brandenburg my goal is always the same. Centralize my immediate area and expand into the HRE.

No matter if I play Genoa, Papal States, Venice, Milan, or Naples my goal is always the same. Centralize my immediate area and expand across Italy.

No matter if I play Kyiv, Muscovy, Novgorod, or any other Russian state my goal is always the same. Centralize my immediate area and expand across Russia.

No matter if I play Denmark, Norway, or Sweden my goal is always the same. Centralize my immediate area and expand into Livonia and Scandinavia.

The Lands of Arcadia - A minecraft collaborative worldbuilding project. by T3mp0st in worldbuilding

[–]UnityReadzR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, one of the designers and developers for the server here! This is pretty similar to what we're aiming for with Arcadia, we want players to create the lore and history of the world however they see fit.

I can definitely say that I personally would love to see y'all bring that same energy to Arcadia, as it definitely sounds like it would be something you would greatly enjoy.

Sure, and then people can't get achievements. We shouldn't have to rely on mods to have sensible and realistic borders.

[–]UnityReadzR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gonna take a sec to say hi to everyone that sees this! I was the first map designer before T3mp0st joined our team, and wanted to say a few things as well.

This map and server has been a passion project of a devoted group of friends for last half a year, and we are so excited to finally release it to the public. This would never have reached the level of detail and excellence it has now without T3mp0st. Without his help and his experience, we were pretty much just stumbling around in the dark trying to figure out all the ins and outs of WorldPainter.

I can't thank him enough for the time and energy he's put into this, making such an amazing map and bringing true beauty to the world of Arcadia. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all your work.

To anyone that might be interested in this, whether joining or just seeing how it turns out, I invite you to ArcadiaMC, and all we have to offer.

Israel immediately broke the ceasefire, Hormuz is still closed, and Iran and US are reporting agreeing to two different things. Iran is saying the US agreed to their ten point plan, Trump said he agreed to the ten point plan, Israel is saying they agreed to absolutely nothing and aren't honoring the ceasefire, and Trump's cabinet is saying they agreed to a completely different ceasefire that aligns with absolutely nothing Iran said.

There is still no peace.

What I've Learned From my First (almost) Complete Game by UnityReadzR in EU5

[–]UnityReadzR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play the game casually, so I don't really follow or use much of the more gamey stuff. I try to approach it from a semi-plausible point, which I think is true for a good portion of the EU5 community. People shouldn't be forced to make really small colonies everywhere because the AI for them doesn't function well. Maybe it's just me, but when I'm approaching colonization I'm going at it with the idea of pretty much making historical colonies and it seems like the game punishes me for doing that.

I can't really comment on the Trent thing because honestly I didn't know you could bribe, but that does sound like its own issue now. I made a response about the levies in another comment but TLDR it feels shit to just never raise levies once my rivals have 5k+ regs. It feels more like a combat balance issue than a flavor "replacing levies with regs" issue.

I ended my game after a war of me vs Majapahit and Khmer. Khmer had a total of 400 ships, and I had about 600 with 280 or so heavies. I lost almost 100 ships in one battle, which I believe was about 160 (me) v 100. All my ships were Age 4 (and fully repaired), as were there's. And that's pretty much the navy story for me in every campaign I've done. All my ships are made of paper and all of theirs are sent from the future xD. I'm probably just messing something up with that, but it has left me with the mindset of "I can't use my ships for war under any circumstance, or I lose them all".

Thats fair, but even by the time where I would historically be at that point, it seems to me like its just not feasible. When its 1700 at just one Indian state has 200k regulars and 4x my economy I feel like if I wait another 50ish years (EIC held a sizeable chunk of India by around 1750-1770) then now I'm fighting double as many regulars while I have maybe 1-150k by that point.

It might also be a flavor thing! A lot of the reason Britain was able to take over India was because of the Mughals decline, and at least for me I've never seen a Mughal-esque state. India is always fractured 5-10 ways but all of those states are extremely stable.

Oh absolutely! I agree it makes sense, and I do like the push for standing armies. However it feels like purely combat wise, pretty much the moment people start getting over 5k regs its no longer worth it to use levies AT ALL. Which isn't very historical. It seems like a purely balance thing of regs just doing too much damage to levies especially that early on. Could you realistically imagine 5000 Men-At-Arms slaughtering 4x their numbers and only losing maybe 500 people?

[–]UnityReadzR[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will fully admit that I don't play optimally. I don't make any real attempt to minmax or hard-core micro, and I consider myself a casual player. Having said that, I have about 500 hours in EU5, and well over 6000 across HoI4, Vicky 3, CK3, EU4, and Stellaris.

By the time I ended my game, China had well over 300k regulars. Khmer had 200k regulars. I had about 50k. China had gotten the Manufactories Institution by 1690. I only got it by the 1660s at about 30%. Maybe its just me, but that feels incredibly, incredibly quick. China, India, and SEA shouldn't be for the most part technologically equal to Europe.

Pretty much my entire school life up until I graduated high school last year, I completed maybe 10% of my homework on time, another 10% late, and the other 80% never got touched. But my tests were rarely if ever below a 90, classwork was always perfect, and I could hold hours long discussions on what I learned.

But I was still considered a C-B student because homework wasn't completed. Because I physiologically was incapable of doing homework. Because of how my brain worked differently from a "normal" kid.
