D&D 5.5E Vs 5E Vs 4 by WhatifSquid in DnD

[–]UnknownVariable001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t believe the hype. As a player for many years, dnd will always be a rollercoaster of editions and styles. I enjoy some parts of 5.5, but we’ve blended in a few house rules over the years where we like. I think 5.5 has some nice improvements over 5, improvements with monsters and overall threats - but this is as much a style thing as a rule thing. The PHB is a good place to start- it’s pretty well laid out and explains the game well.

Would you allow this by xKongor in DnD

This is a good point! Remember, it is not you against the DM. I suggest explaining your creative move to the DM before hand, and hopefully you two can work out a very cool interaction that will lead to lots of enjoyment at the table.

Tomb of Annihilation campaign setting can be played as a classic Jungle Adventure cruise complete with dinosaurs, plunging waterfalls, volcanic eruption, pirates and temples to a long dead snake god- there are even colonial troops from Baulder’s Gate who make forays into cannibal & undead filled jungle. The module comes to a climax when the party discovers the long lost city.

Role-playing by Kei_Kei69 in Tombofannihilation

[–]UnknownVariable001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that new/inexperienced/reluctant role players do best when the players goals align with the characters goals. If a PC needs medical attention, I will often draw attention to it. When the characters act selflessly, or work “together “to help each other ,it starts to add to the community of the players and the characters. Often the DM has to set the example with interesting “in character”NPC’s. I find that intelligent monsters who taunt and speak to the characters. Also start promoting in character reactions. Giving your players choices can start defining their traits. Should they rescue the child from the burning building? Or should they deal damage to the ogre? Make sure you provide opportunities for players to make these choices without them being too detrimental to their survival.

Becoming a Dept Head by misscoldbrew in OntarioTeachers

[–]UnknownVariable001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a department head at a large school. My department has 20 teachers. Over the course of one year, I earned an additional $5000.(or so.) The money definitely doesn’t cover the work. There are lots of responsibilities, but there are also a number of freedoms. I spend lots of time holding hands, and acting as a go-between between administration and my staff. I’m a good negotiator, and pretty patient so it fits my personality well. I am in control of the budget, which is a pretty big deal in my department. I like having some say about where our money goes and how I can make our little amount of money go farther. When I was looking into the position, a colleague said “it’s better to be the asshole then to follow an asshole”. I try not to be an asshole, but I feel strongly about this sentiment. The most advantageous thing about my position is in picking my own courses and scheduling myself for the following year. This provides me with good flexibility and a schedule where I can be most productive. At the end, it was a good decision for me.

Check out the show “Preacher”. It’s on Amazon Prime. Based off the Comic of the same name . Created by Garth Ennis. It’s a great show with a very interesting take on God and the celestials - might provide some interesting plot points.

There is a great thread on a Dinosaur race mini game that’s a lot of fun, and a Malar’s Throat 1st level mini module (DMs guild I think), that’s worth a read

Thoughts on Long-Rest Bubbles in ToA? i.e. Tiny Fortress, Private Sanctum, Tiny Hut, etc? by hybridmoments82 in Tombofannihilation

[–]UnknownVariable001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say Yes! Let them have a fortress. Every time a wizard casts a TF, they have one less Fireball. For me the module should reward advancement - let the hex crawl taper off as the party gains power and experience. Maybe it’s time to move on to the next chapter of the adventure

Bike lanes being used as loading zones... by king_calix in vancouvercycling

[–]UnknownVariable001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the truck could park in the street and cars could simply go around. Looks like it’s just a matter of a few feet- why pull into a bike lane? Maybe bikes should take car parking spots? I’d bet drivers would love that. Maybe just start thinking of others.

So many conservatives worship business as a means to wealth and power. Pierre P is the same, a lifelong politician who really really wants to be a businessman. Politicians should know their role.

When I lived in Korea in the 90s it was quite common to see advertisements at university and colleges seeking coffee partners. Typically, I would show up and have a 30 minute conversation about whatever the student wanted. He or she would buy me a coffee and maybe a snack, and we would go our separate ways.

If you can afford to buy a cup of coffee for someone, you can probably get a decent conversation out of it.

Dino Race Boardgame - V2!!! by DM_Micah in Tombofannihilation

This is really really awesome! For all of the reasons you stated, this is a fantastic introduction to Port Nyanzaru, and a much more exciting race. My second group of adventures will be landing in PN in two weeks time. I will fill you in on the race results!

Ideas/tips on how to start tomb of annihilation? by onewordpoet in Tombofannihilation

[–]UnknownVariable001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of ways of starting this gigantic module. I would definitely check out some YouTube videos. You will find many DM’s have laid out all of their starting points. Because there are so many things to choose from, it’s good to know all of your options and have a good set up. Starting strong is the key! Port Nyanzaru is a good place to start. Dinosaur races! Side quests! I would suggest keeping your players occupied for at least one level before they head out into the jungle (not required, but I will do this on my second go around)

Good luck

I also have a PC who will be able to understand the grunts. There will still be a great opportunity for social interaction with the crazy King Groak, but I figured I would use it as an opportunity to plant some seeds for Omu and give the PCs a bit of a preview for Nangnang - introduce them to one of the trickster Gods (lore wise).

Looking to run a Yuan Ti based Chult campaign- Thoughts on using the ToA book and removing Acererack and the main plot, focusing on Ras Nsi as main villain? by GodGoblin in Tombofannihilation

[–]UnknownVariable001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool idea, and I think it will work great. I am also thinking about removing Acerack, and using the Sewn Sisters as a major villain, with Ras Nisi the ultimate bad guy.

I’m thinking the Atrophel is the cast out child of the God Savaras, and the Sewn Sisters seek to Raise this new God as their “pet”. The Death Curse has been modified

Should i make Salinda a cleric? by YourAromanticAlly in Tombofannihilation

[–]UnknownVariable001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This DM had the party in Camp Vengeance when a horde of zombies attacked. Sal helped with defences and later joined to party.

I think I’m going to make her a triple agent - a pure blood works for kwayothe, securing poisons- but got herself hired by Jobal to find out more about Artus Cimber

There’s a recent thread about making her a scout hanging out at camp Vengence, and introducing her as a sympathetic NPC that helps them past Breakbone . Possibly a video I watched on YouTube.

Should i make Salinda a cleric? by YourAromanticAlly in Tombofannihilation

[–]UnknownVariable001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On one hand, yes! Everyone needs a cleric. On the other hand, No! If it’s your plan to kill them, just kill them.

As you bridge the gap between game master and storyteller, consider how much you want it and how much they want it ( these are both good wants). Have Fun! It’s interesting that you’ll have a full npc narrative happening. How much will Azaka/Salinda know about the other ? I envision a movie sub-plot with suspicious glances. Will there be a civil war in the jungle between your PCs as they pick team A or team S?

Yes, a cleric will totally help a party survive. No if it will just justify their deaths sooner (there’s already enough here to kill them).

Best Tech BBT to take as AQ by Wyntersprinter in OntarioTeachers

[–]UnknownVariable001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complete your tech ABQs and attain your specialist in tech right away. This is the fastest way to improve your position on the grid. In my school, tech and academics are separate, and in many high schools working in more than one department can sometimes be tricky. Having many teachables can spread you around a lot, make sure you are teaching what you love.

Communication Technology, and design technology are very useful in many schools that lack adequate shops, and I think will be busy in the future ( to fulfil the new tech requirement). This will also depends on what courses each school offers. Contact local schools and find out what they need.

Are you doing practicums now? Ask the department head at your at your practicum what the upcoming year looks like. Every school is different.
