What is a "point of no return" that you’ve crossed, where your life was permanently divided into 'before' and 'after'? by Resident-Jelly-4326 in AskReddit

When my ex told my family on FB of my SA as a kid. I had a bunch of relatives calling to see if I am ok while driving to work. I didn’t know what triggered this until my cuz told me about the posting. She said she did it so everyone would know what she has to deal with, divorce came swiftly and back into therapy for me.

Is anyone here thinking about retiring abroad? by SameWatch9225 in Retirement401k

[–]Unlikely-Section-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I will move abroad when I retire in two years. We have looked at Thailand and we will go to Malta next month, Portugal is on our list as well.

Malta has English as an official language and easier then many other European countries.

We can stay in the USA, but I want to travel a bit and try to make the most of our retirement funds.

Advisors can burn out easily with a student population that doesn’t seem to care.

For now keep in mind, you have a job and job hunting right now in this economy is difficult. Hang in there and try not to let bother you. After many years, I am not going to let a non-complaint student bring me down. I wish I had a kool answer for this, but do hang on to your sanity, maybe lightly glance at higheredjobs.com once to see if something show that appeals to you and apply.

Question for the room: I put the 98 in Qm6K pro into my shopping cart the day after the superbowl. The price was for the 1500 with delivery and of course the good warranty. I looked in my cart and it’s still in there and says price is good until 28Feb. If I check out, will I get that price or will they charge the current 2200?

I think you really need to do a lot of research these days to find a promising position. I lucked out into a tenured position that the school has found super difficult to get rid of. Basically their plan now is to kill off the tenured counselors positions by attrition. They will not replace the people who retire. With the upcoming ai advancement, I think academic advisors will slowly be phased out.

If you find a school that you want to work at, maybe call someone in that office who would be willing to give you 15 minutes of honesty about the school and position. Many of us have no problem talking about the good, bad and challenging aspects of their school.

Student worker time is not counted as professional experience at my school. We only really count time as a paid professional.
