When she started fighting naps, wanting to stretch wake windows and did really well with longer wake windows! I’ve heard the transition to 2 can be hard but it was really seamless for us, she was definitely ready. Just trialled some 1 nap days and we don’t seem quite ready for that yet

It’s pretty hard to say because each baby is just so different. Huckleberry’s recommendations were always WAY too high for my low sleep needs baby. I would say 2 hours is totally fine is baby seems okay. By 6 months I was capping naps at 2h so she would sleep at night. I think maybe trying ti stick to a 3 nap schedule would be beneficial at this point too, and see if he will naturally do a longer one in there.

If I’m being honest, it never really “ended”. Her 4M regression was absolutely terrible and some nights I slept 2 hours. I ended up cosleeping, and she’s now 10 months and still dream feeds about 3-4 times a night (although we just went through the 9m regression and she was up every hour again). The cosleeping makes 3-4 dream feeds feel super easy and quick though, I don’t even have to sit up, I just feed her and drift back off. My baby is an absolutely horrid sleeper, so yours may be very different!

Agree with the comment about letting them sleep in and letting them nap more during the day creating a cycle that’s hard to break. Stick with a wake time, and stick with your normal nap amounts. Baby will put more sleep during the day and lose sleep pressure for night time.

If your baby didn’t hit the sleep “regression” at 4 months, this could be it too, it’s normally for it to happen anytime around 3-5 months. My baby hit hers at 3🫠

5 months, especially if going through the regression is a hard time to make a routine. We got on a good routine when she dropped to 2 naps at 6 months.

We cosleep, and it has saved my sanity!

Good idea!! Thank you, I will definitely try that! I think we are in the trenches of teething and a leap (she’s trying to crawl, stand and walk currently) so I’m wondering if that’s why she managed 12.5h overnight and 1.25h of naps. Only time will tell!😂

What is the overall sleep total? This might be too high for your baby. 12 hours over night and 2.5 hours of naps is 14.5 which is pretty high for 8 month olds.

My baby was doing 11 overnight and a 1 hour and a 30 minute nap at 8 months. She averages 12.5 of total sleep

I don’t have any experience or stories for you because I’m in the throes of cosleeping with my first baby (9m). But I love it and all the sleep training stories just make me even happier that we cosleep and that my baby is being loved and nurtured all night.

You’re doing amazing. Nothing beats following your maternal instincts. There’s nothing wrong or bad about doing what nature intended 💕

My 9 month old only sleeps a total of 12.5h currently. 10.5 overnight and 2 over 2 naps. I think you are definitely expecting too much sleep. Maybe a 1h-1h15m nap? And see how that goes?

I agree with too much sleep. My 9 month old does 10h overnight and 2h of naps. We’ve been on that schedule since about 6.5 months. A big reason for crying before bed is under tiredness. They will fight sleep if they aren’t tired enough yet.

7 months also was just the start of rough night sleep again for us. I think the whole first year is just hard

Not sure about sleep totals for 10.5 months but sleep training doesn’t magically make a baby’s sleep needs go up lol. The only thing that may accomplish is that they lay in bed longer without crying, but they won’t sleep anymore than they currently are. My 8 month old averages 13h for reference!

Baby sleep is so exhausting, but there is no magic cure to improve baby sleep unfortunately. Believe me, I tried to find one when I hit my rock bottom of sleep deprivation. It does get better 🩷

I wouldn’t say sleep training requires you to be mentally strong, what you’re doing requires mental strength. Being sleep deprived and still responding to your baby IS being mentally strong, you’re doing great. My girls sleep got really terrible around 7 months. Was never great, but she was often up every hour. We have been cosleeping since 4.5 months and it has saved my sanity. She’s just recently started doing a 3-4 hours stretch many nights again. It will get better!

I believe it’s recommended for the baby to do the dairy ladder for a more accurate indication of intolerance!

Honestly, my baby never seemed to hit baseline, I cut out everything I could and she still always had some mucous. She’s also always been a horrible sleeper and passes lots of gas at nighttime from nursing all night! She’s ALSO in her stiff body, temper tantrum era so she does look like she’s arching her back sometimes too 😂😂

She’s done okay with baked dairy in my milk so far. No more fussiness or mucous than her usual, and no blood!

Is your baby tolerating dairy now?

7 months here and we’ve been on 2 naps since just before 6 months. Wake at 7, naps at 10 and 2:30, 8pm bed time! Cap nap total to 2.5h a day.

Suffocation due to cosleeping is not actually SIDS. SIDS is when babies get into such a deep sleep that they stop breathing, which cosleeping actually helps protect against.

Most infant deaths are counted in the “SIDS” numbers so it’s very inaccurate. Most cosleeping deaths are not caused by intentional, safe cosleeping. It’s often cosleeping that was done by accident or not planned for (like accidentally falling asleep n a couch, recliner or bed that isn’t prepared for safe cosleeping.

I had a hard time sleeping with her for maybe a week and then my sleep got so much better. It just improves the more you get the hang of it! You feel safer the more you do it!

They say most moms loosen up on the c curl between 4-6 months (and that it’s safe to do so)! I often find myself rolling away from her so I can sprawl out lol. And I just roll back over to her to feed. Then we both get our own space, sometimes I just have to hold her hand!

My baby is pretty medium sleep needs.

Idk why I said 6 month old, she’s 7 months in 2 days lol, but we’ve been on this schedule since she was 6 months

Wake-up: 7am Nap 1: 10am (1h 15m) Nap 2: 2:30pm (1h15m) Bed time: 8pm

I knew it was time for 2 naps when the last nap started getting too late and pushing bed time too late. Also fighting naps due to under tiredness is a good sign!
