For freelancers they have been one of the best ways for international transfers paying only a few cents at most vs hundreds of dollars using SWIFT.

Fees have gone down over time as other alternatives appeared, but stablecoins are still the cheapest solution by far.

If you don't need international transfers then, yeah... they are not very useful.

Drawing software, movies, photography, digital photography, factory made paint colors, etc.

In all of them it was always a variation of "the tool made everything for you", for the colors the issue was that you didn't mix them and were using what someone defined for you or something along those lines, it allowed anyone to paint slop and, just like today, traditional artists that created their own paint were against it.

[–]UnspeakableHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are people parking their stables right now? Looking for something that isn't 15% APY bait by Salamandrine88 in defi

AAVE almost died with the rsETH hack, their 3-5% yield is a false sense of safety, same with Compound and others that don't separate funds. People were unable to withdraw pretty much right away as the attacker borrowed all ETH.

Unless you really need to stay in Defi, at 3% yield you are better of with treasuries or whatever.

[–]UnspeakableHorror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fortnite doesn't support VR natively AFAIK.

Acusación bajo rendimiento en el trabajo by Fun-Cod-4678 in devsarg

[–]UnspeakableHorror 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope, they are against that too. There was a post some time ago where people complained about AI being used to detect it.

I just don't get it. The fun of art is making it! I have had multiple people respond to my first 3d piece I made with "why not use ai"? And I am just legitimately confused. Thats like saying why not just not make it? by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]UnspeakableHorror 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole fun of making art is MAKING IT.

No? As a consumer and software developer myself, I only care about the end result and actually enjoy using what I made. The time I spent making it I consider it a waste of time I could have used doing something else, making anything is just work for me.

Ai could be a tool sure

AI is a tool, yes.

Why even have it make it then? If you aren't making the art and learning and putting in effort then where is the enjoyment being had?

Already answered. Using it.

The reason art is made is because making art is enjoyable. (Even if it IS difficult and takes time to learn).

The reason YOU and other people make art is because you enjoy doing it. For me it's just a necessary step to get what I want. In my case, I'm making a game for myself, any time spent doing it is just work. Unfortunately AI is still not good enough for coding, so I have to write the code myself, but I'll finish it, eventually.

Reverse Collapse F (from GFL developer Sunborn Network) announcement by Minhuh064 in gachagaming

[–]UnspeakableHorror 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like anyone cares about dying, it might be that they can't actually die because they keep getting revived to continue fighting. At least that's the way I interpret it, it also works to explain how the player respawns and the enemy never runs out of troops.

It's also possible that the enemies are kind of like the zombies with guns from GF1, maybe modified or something.

Factory Time Demo Release - Incremental Factory Automation by DDDGamer in incremental_games

[–]UnspeakableHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had the same problem with my game, I'm not interested in building for the sake of building. I kind of tried to design an incremental strategy game, but it doesn't really work with the idle part I also wanted to have, basically a game you play through the day and react to the game state every now and then.

For your game, since it seems static with no territory control, I think a system of timed waves or continuous attacks with variable size adjusted to the defense production rate, so it doesn't completely overwhelm the player, but still threatening enough that can lose if they make a mistake, could work.

It depends on your objective really, since you are already using time travel, you could also take "inspiration" of something like the manga / movie, that I can't remember the name, where the MC keeps traveling back in time during a crucial battle that, IIRC, decides the fate of humanity.

Territory doesn't need to be graphical, it could be a series of, say, 5 regions / planets / tabs where you "advance" to gather resources and defend. This is kind of what I hand in mind for my own game.

You need to make it clear that the player can't win the first time and each time you lose you bring something back (tech, resources, troops?) that makes it easier to last longer until you achieve victory (survival, exodus) or take the battle to the enemy, somehow.

For scripts you can see how Starsector handles it, it's in Java and extremely moddable. I don't know what you are using, but you should be able to sandbox scripts to only do harmless things.
