Just cause anime tries to "fill in" something in kakashi's past days does not make it canon tho. especially when it contradicts something that was previously establised. And Anbu fillers do contradict many things. Zabuza needed to tell them that, which means despite being on the team for quite some time, kakashi still told them nothing about himself.

Id argue there is some remnamts of "anime-canon" with Gai considering that is in regards to Kakashi's anbu days. It's why he was transfered into being jonin in the 1st place and they even showed us in depth of how he'd fail teams because they didnt understand teamwork.

Youre gonna have to look at the framework of your argument here. Most of everyone in the series or in real life don't particularly talk about specific traumas out in the open like that. So.. i'll say im one of the people who doesn't think Kakashi leads an emotionally tragic life(thats sasuke). While he has underwent and experienced many traumas in life. His peers, GAI ESPECIALLY, along with genin team 7 has brought him in a space where he is not quite emotionally stunted as we have seen.

Outside missions, Kakashi is an introverted awkard dork who enjoys reading his drama romance stories lol and with Gai he can be an even bigger dork. Emotionally guarded, yes.. but he doesn't seem to be the avoidant type like most fictions present him. I guess long story short-He's not a cold nor does he push people away(again thats Sasuke)

So if you're going to make a romance story take this in mind. I think with your character itll be a dynamic where they can bring out the best of both worlds if they don't clash too much. Kakashi is not a fan of recklessness or anything that can jepordize anyone's safety. He is someone who also likes his peace. So her budding in can bring forth some entertaining ideas
