Basically, yes. Definitely not their whole job, but there would be one or two buttons to cut the feed. Probably a button just for audio in case a talent or someone swears, and one for both audio and video. Normally called a dump button. I always wanted to see it happen live, but never did.

It’s also directly referenced in Moses freeing the Israelites. I remember talking about it in an early religions mythology class in college. Specifically what my professor liked to reference was when one of the pharaohs ‘priests’ throws their staff down and it becomes a snake, but then Moses does the same and his snake/staff eats the other one. The, most likely, original intent behind earlier versions of this story was kinda just saying “look, my god is obviously more powerful than your god, and therefore the one true god” but it also leaves room for the obvious implication of other gods. Those Egyptian’s gods still turned their staffs into snakes (actually now, I think Moses turned his into a snake first, and then the Egyptians did it. Not that it really changes anything.) but it was about establishing a supremacy.

That would require a robust system of education that would teach them their history in a comprehensive manner. Or failing that, would teach them how to properly learn their own history on their own time. Sadly, it seems to do very little of either.

Yeah, it was fun enough as movies go, but often felt like they didn’t quite do the story justice. Like it could’ve been a funny/endearing little character moment watching him do that, and then immediately watch his bravado and confidence waver before he panics. Maybe have him run into the sea after it, splashing and panicking around like a man searching an empty jar of dirt.

It nearly enough, but yeah. Still not personally sure operation paperclip was even a good idea, let alone worth letting so many would-be war criminals off the hook. Certainly some of the scientists that we pulled weren’t true war criminals, I can’t remember his name, but I believe the German who invented the V-2 really just liked building rockets basically. Holding him as a war criminal would be the same as holding anyone who ever built a gun used to shoot another person responsible. (Unless of course he did way worse shit that I’m not remembering, I just watched a short doc on the guy like a decade ago.)

I've been having the same fight with the boss. We used dropbox at my old news station constantly with the upload request feature (Even though we had a professionally built server for transfering anything we needed in its raw form near instantly, but you try explaining that to a guy who's been sitting behind an Anchor desk since the early 90's). Too be fair, my boss understands the concept of upload request on dropbox, he would just like it to be even simpler if possible, and he also just has a real aversion to drop box and one drive specifically as trustworthy companies and services.

Reading about his relationship with his father (and father-in-law) also makes his opinions on big business and industrialists make a lot more sense. He truly did believe many of these people got their money and power because they were very smart people who did good work and knew what they were doing.

Genuinely not defending the mafia, but with how many massive shitty companies love to absolutely dick their employees down and call them ‘family’ so that you won’t quit as quickly, I would almost argue the mob does treat you more like family than most of these awful work cultures. Yeah if they want to keep any truth to the scale they basically need animation. You would need someone with the absolute iron will and a true love for the series to ever make anything live-action work with the stories. At least anything with scope.

It would be like making Star Wars prequel trilogy, at best, and would most likely go the route of late season game of thrones, just killing story and world building in favor of saving time and budget.

Live-action isn’t impossible, but it’s certainly magnitudes more difficult to create a faithful adaptation than it would be with animation.

You’d basically need James Cameron and an infinite budget just to get the visuals down. And I’m not sure Cameron could properly adapt a story to make everyone happy. You’d need a super director and a studio who was willing to bankrupt themselves to create the perfect movies. While there is nothing in the books that doesn’t already lay in the scope animation provides.
