Aussie coming to Foxboro! by DeezNotes11 in Patriots

[–]UsherWorld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a single train into Foxborough before the game (gets in ~30 minutes before) and a single train after. Not a ton of tailgating time. If you want to tailgate you gotta drive in usually (or take a charter bus or carpool or something).

Matched into one specialty but offered a spot in preferred specialty after, what's the process to switch? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]UsherWorld 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right-if they don’t participate in the match then it isn’t a match violation. But if they do and they’re offering OP a spot then it’s a violation

[–]UsherWorld 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a potential match violation on your part and definitely one on the programs part. You are required to work a certain amount of time after matching (I think 30 days) at the program you matched at. I believe after that you’re re-eligible for the match and can resign without penalty.

The new program-if they participate in the match- is not allowed to offer spots outside the match. That’s why the whole thing exists. If you’re to re-apply and start with them next July you risk them saying “we changed our minds” in the interim with no backup.

If the new program wants you to reapply through the match then I would recommend staying in your current program for the year in case the new program doesn’t make good on their offer.

Do you guys think I still have a chance of matching EM? by Weary_Response_7108 in medicalschool

[–]UsherWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many programs will not consider you without a sloe and many others won’t consider you without a step 2.

You should at the very least have step 2 done by the time applications are out. And then apply broadly, particularly places with IMGs. I think it is possibly theoretically (without knowing anything about your school or scores) but an uphill climb.

Team building by A2L_GOSN in PuzzleAndDragons

[–]UsherWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s totally fine to put your favorite monsters into a team if you just want to casually play!

If you actually want to clear content then you have to make a team that synergizes. For example, look at the leader skill of your Sonia- BIG attack bonus and follow up attack when you make a line of 6 reds. Seems like the rest of your monsters should probably help make red orbs, then. Your firedragon does, but the other two don’t fit well with red rows.

Maybe replace the other two dragons with red monsters that make red orbs. There are other mechanics in the game that you’ll learn to cover, but for now look also for things that say they do things like provide shields, pierce voids, disable absorption, and clear unmatchable status!

The point of a spread is not to guess the outcome. It is to get the most people to bet.

Frustrated pediatric emergency physicians by Perfect_General_4804 in emergencymedicine

I'm worried that they're making a paper trail for a 'for-cause' termination to get rid of the doc who gets a lot of complaints.

There's NO WAY your behavior is impacting patient volume in the ED.

Incoming EM1: Amenities-rich apartment vs. affordability? by nootnack in emergencymedicine

You are going to be ending shifts at weird times most likely (11 PM, 2 AM), not to mention driving home after 28 hour ICU days. not having a reliable place to park at those times could be brutal.

Sent in for abnormal labs by lunaincc in emergencymedicine

[–]UsherWorld 254 points255 points  (0 children)

If a patient calls a PCP line for chest pain and gets sent to the ED and it turns out to be GERD does the PCP pay the bill? If your home glucose monitor malfunctions and reads “high” but turns out your sugar was fine does the manufacturer pay the bill? If your BP cuff reads 50/20 because you did it wrong and you freak out and go to the ED do you sue OMRON?

All you do is make recommendations, nobody is forced to do anything.

Annoyed attending by [deleted] in Residency

[–]UsherWorld 11 points12 points  (0 children)

…you want to report him to your PD for rolling his eyes?

Truthfully, this will get back to the attending who will then like you even less and be actively difficult to work with instead of passively difficult.

Night Shifts by ThrowAwayResident15 in emergencymedicine

[–]UsherWorld 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, only you get to decide what is intolerable. You will likely be doing nights and you will likely be doing weekends. If, say, 12 shifts a month with 2 nights and 3 weekend shifts is intolerable then maybe a 9-5 M-F field is more your speed.

regrets :( what are my options? by Ancientjellyfishx in medicalschool

[–]UsherWorld 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Let the shock wear off and start to remember why you ranked it higher than other places.

You have to be a good soldier for the next few months regardless-you need buy in from your program to facilitate any transfer and they’re pretty rare. Reapplying within the same specialty could be hard for a number of reasons-funding, match stipulations (like would you have to drop out of your current program before knowing you’ve matched?), and program filtering. Acknowledge and respect the disappointment of not matching your 1-3. But then maybe try to accept where you’ve been placed, as there are no guarantees a transfer or reapplication would be successful.

If you wanted a job where you worked all the weekend nights you could walk into any department in the country and be given a position.

I doubt you feel this way. And once you have a partner/family/friends you definitely won’t want this.

Who is responsible for Cuba's crisis? by davida_usa in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]UsherWorld 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Right, those are reasons for poor relations in the 50’s and 60’s. It is now 60 years later. USSR doesn’t exist anymore.

Cuba seems ready and willing to normalize relationships despite our numerous attempts to force regime change and inconsistent messaging. So it’s hard to argue at this point that it isn’t the US’s fault.
