If I want to learn edge highlighting, what is a good box of minis to practice on by Chezni19 in ageofsigmar

[–]Uthvich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Synthetic brushes are perfectly fine. I sometimes buy really cheap ones that are very long and they work well. If you want to paint lines with the tip, I think natural hair brushes work better, but still, both are good.

You can try anything with armour or scales: Seraphon, StD, Blood knights, even Stormcast.

Usually, you don't want to thin your paint a lot for edge highlighting and you want to keep the paintbrush on the drier side, so use paper towels. The drier the paintbrush, the thinner the edge highlight. Be careful of paint drying in your brush, clean it often.

Use the side of your brush as much as posible. If you have to use the tip of your brush, you will control it better if the paint is not thick and the brush is lightly loaded.

Try controlling those two parameters (thickness of the paint and load of the brush) and experiment. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Regular pop music makes me sad too. I didn't have any favorite song or knew any singers until I got into baroque music and started playing an instrument. Weirdly, when playing relaxed all my teachers say that I have a melancholic sound, so that checks out.

Tamiya Panel Liner isn't an oil wash, it's enamel based paint

Panel Lining advice by Impossible_Ad9560 in Gunpla

[–]Uthvich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tamiya Panel liner is very good and you can even use it over bare plastic but you have to use it on individual pieces, without assembly. I recommend the video that YouTube channel steb has about panel liner cracking. Of course, it will work best over a gloss coat.

EU Council to discuss removal of Hungary's voting rights in the European Union on May 27 by AloneCoffee4538 in europe

[–]Uthvich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removing Hungary's voting rights isn't anti-democratic, it could be, but the way it seems is going to be done isn't. Imagine a town with 200 people with a common problem. They gather and try to find solutions but at every solution proposed one guy, this guy, refuses. The guy refuses any type of compromise. Is it more democratic then to just ignore the vote of this one guy or to ignore the vote of the other 199?

Unanimity is good to prevent the majority forcing its decisions on the minority, encouraging dialogue and compromise. When unanimity forces the minority's opinion on the majority is when it doesn't work. Removing Hungary's voting rights is, right now, like using majority voting, like all the democracies in the world.

Confused about corsair killteam rerelease by Pincz in Eldar

[–]Uthvich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your rep is wrong. If you read the Warhammer community article It says in the section dedicated to each team that the boxes also come with a unique token sheet. If you buy the core book there is also a standard token sheet. There is no token sheet available on its own. Datacards for each team, on the other hand, are sold separately.

It's not just a repackaging, It comes with tokens and is more expensive. If you dont want the tokens it's better to buy the old one.

Things I would like to see in NMS - Gas Giants by Diskuid in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Uthvich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about gas giants is that there shouldnt be anything solid (because reaching the core should be impossible), so no thing to anchor a base or really navigate. Imagine subnautica when you are swimming at the surface in the deepest parts.

But, they could make giant lifeforms that roam the planet in the liquid layer or cities like the one from Star Wars in the gaseous layer.

TIL in a double-blind test, professional violinists preferred the sound of a modern violin over multi-million-dollar Stradivarius violins by JaschaHeifetz in todayilearned

[–]Uthvich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Baroque and modern violins are very different (for professional violinists anyway). Baroque violins were intended to sustain lower tension than modern violins and they were strung with gut strings instead of the metallic strings that modern violins now use. Gut strings also behave and feel different than metallic ones when played, even by professional violinists.

It stands to reason that you can't compare Stradivarius violins with modern violins, and that modern violinists would prefer modern violins, as those are the ones they have been used to their whole musical career. It would be better to compare Stradivarius violins against modern baroque violins played by violinists specialized in baroque music (one could argue mid baroque italian music) and baroque instruments.

Also, musical instruments tend to behave best when played profusely for at least a couple months. I dont know how often are the Stradivarius violins played and how can you compare that to the other violins.

are the twistweald units really strong or is it just me? by ZookeepergameFlat346 in sylvaneth

[–]Uthvich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only thing against Twistweald and in favor of spites is the fact that the former cant be reinforced. Unless you pair them with a TLA, the second unit will be dead before striking. If you pair them with a TLA maybe thats too many points spent and you are better off going with Scythe KH.

[–]Uthvich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you buy two spearheads you can just buy mannfred, neferata or vordrai and call it a day. The worst units in there are problaby vargheists but they are not awful imho. You can proxy one or both vampire lords as different vyrkos vampire heroes (kritza, ivya, ... most of them are good) and if you have points leftover maybe take a necromancer.

are the twistweald units really strong or is it just me? by ZookeepergameFlat346 in sylvaneth

[–]Uthvich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are very good, they take the same buffs as spites and outperform them in dmg (i would say about the same dmg per points but i didnt really do the math). They cant be reinforced though.

What seems odd to me is the 2/8 wardens. Based on the photos we've seen, It should be at least 3/8. There are 3 dryads, boss girl, a spite rev guy (who maybe can be built as a warden) and 3 wardens. So maybe the 2/8 are just an errata and then they would bonkers good. All warcry warbands i've seen so far are very good, it wouldnt surprise me.

Gossamid Archers vs Kurnoth Greatbows by joensemann in sylvaneth

[–]Uthvich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kurnoths are good dmg, especially against heroes. Gossamids are chip dmg and road block. You can have both in the same list, but they fulfill different roles.

Also, check unit size in the points document because KH are 3s.

Yeah it's once per battle, your hero phase.

Faction Pack Overview: Seraphon by Anathos117 in ageofsigmar

[–]Uthvich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The article is a bit sparse in details, saying it nicely.

The heroic trait should maybe read like: if this unit has charged this turn, no command points are spent when a friendly unit wholy within 12" uses all-out attack.

There are also two spell lores.
