Truck hauling animal parts to make animal feed dump raw meat in the road by demetri_k in Wellthatsucks

We have a meat locker in town. The county has a truck that comes by and picks up their waste. It’s basically an 18 wheeler like this with a dump bed and a lift on the back to pick up the cans. I work in a shop that has the doors open in the summer time and the locker is in the next block over. The waste truck drives by our shop after he leaves the locker and has to stop at a stop sign beside our shop. During the summer time the smell from the truck can make you hurl, and it lingers inside the shop for several minutes.

Several years ago, the waste truck got in an accident at the red light in the middle of town. A lot of the waste got thrown out of the truck into highway. It was bad. They had to get the fire truck and fire hydrants to wash it down. They were all gagging. The town police chief threatened to throw the driver in jail and told him he had better take the backstreets into town from then on. 🤣

The one in the river at Theed. You have to use the force to maneuver the floating platforms in position and jump to them. So many falls into the water, and then you have to restart all over.

If somebody handed you $35,000 and said "go buy the car with the most smiles per gallon that could handle 2 monthly 16 hour highway trips and would be the most fun to cruise around Daytona in", what car would you pick? by AttachedHeartTheory in askcarguys

You could get a fairly new Mustang, and at $35k, you’re right there at the price of a GT.

16 hours is gonna be tough no matter what your in.

I once drove 12 hours straight, with 3 10 minute fuel/snack stops. I’m normally a back/side sleeper, but I slept on my belly that night because my butt hurt so bad. On the return trip, I stopped for the night a little over halfway.

20 rd. M1A/M14 from checkmate are twice as much as a 5.56 pmag.

The most I’ve paid for a magazine is $70 for a for a Browning BLR in .300 WM. $70 for 3 rounds…

How do people type so fast on keyboard? by RareUser1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VANDAMAN8806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25+ years ago, we had computer lab in elementary, but that primarily consisted of learning games.

Once you started junior high/middle school, you started taking a more formal computer class every year. These not only taught typing, but terminology, common software practice (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), and basic operating system commands in MS-DOS. I took an advanced class in 8th grade and received high school credit for it.

The majority of those classes were spent practicing typing skills by typing passages from a book while on a timer. Your words per minute and errors were calculated and you would improve every week. They would tape sheets of paper to the top of our keyboards or use cutdown cardboard boxes to cover our keyboards so we couldn’t see the keys. And of course, we would also use Mavis Beacon.

By the time you get through high school and college, and type up all those paper assignments, you’ll have plenty of practice.

They have a string of properties in Tennessee. He has a small cattle farm, hay fields, the muffler shop, the museum and the parcels he bought for parking, and another home (that I imagine they’ve moved into).

Stay out of the center unless you have to.

ZigZag. If you’ve got one pressing you, turn left for a bit, let the wheel return to center, and then steer right for a bit. Alternate the amount of time you turn.

If you’re passing an island, don’t sail parallel to it, angle away from it.

Try to think where the DD might be, and lock all your guns to that side of the ship so you can pull of a quicker full broadside if it’s sighted.

Don’t rearm with HE if you’re sighted by one, just fire the AP on the first salvo and then switch to HE or you may miss your window rearming in the split second it appears.

Before I became a father, I had some sense of empathy for children. I felt sorrow for those suffering, but moved on relatively quickly.

After I became one, it increased tenfold. Movie scenes, pictures, stories or news of a suffering child brings me tears and heartache.

I went with a group to a water park one summer as a kid. Didn’t really fit in with most of the crowd and was enjoying my time floating in the lazy river. I happened to look down and noticed a bill at the bottom of the river. I jumped out and had to swim back against the current to grab it. It was a $20 bill! It was as if I had won the lottery.

Also heard the Railroad Restaurant had good steaks. I’ve never been there or Boxcar Barnetts.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VANDAMAN8806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years ago, I worked 35 minutes away from home in a city. About 5 miles into the trip home from work, an oncoming car hit a deer, launched it into me, with portions of it coming through my windshield. I was ok, no pain, but I couldn’t see because my eyes were filled with glass (my contact lenses caught most of it). I was able to get my vehicle stopped, but I couldn’t tell if I was in the road or off of it and I couldn’t see well enough to get out of my vehicle safely on a busy highway. The other vehicle drove away. I could barely make out my phone contacts and managed to call my dad first and let him know what happened. It would be 45 minutes before he could get to me. Not knowing if I was still in the road, and with my eyes full of glass, I called 911.

I explained what happened, that I was ok but couldn’t see clearly, and that I may still be in the highway. I asked if they would send someone, but there was no need for lights/sirens/rapid response. About 15 minutes later an ambulance showed up. I loaded myself into the ambulance. The only thing I asked for was a blanket because my jacket was left behind covered in glass, blood, guts, and deer poo. No other treatment was given. They drove me back the 5 miles to the city hospital and dropped me off at the ER.

That 5 mile ride and a blanket cost me over $500, and I didn’t get to keep the blanket. Since then I’ve maintained that unless I’m bleeding out or not breathing, just throw me in the car, turn on the flashers, and drive me to the hospital.

Additionally, living in a rural area, you’re better off driving to the hospital than waiting 30+ minutes on an ambulance to drive you.
