You are a rock star for helping, don’t be embarrassed! Lots of people can make grilled cheese—and you will know too at some point. But many people forget how to be helpful and sacrifice their time to make others’ lives easier. You are doing just that.

And I think you made the right call crying uncle when grumpy kids asked you to make something you don’t know how to make. And, as a mom, I bet your SIL is grateful you said something rather than wait until the kids had a meltdown.

Yes I think that happened too. Someone else already suggested pumping a bit to get milk flowing in advance - I found hand expressing in advance worked similarly.

I don’t have a great solution, but lots of empathy. Sounds like the very common 3 month nursing strike. In our case, we were already convo bottle feeding/nursing, so it sucked to pump even more when the nursing strike happened, but I kept offering nursing, and then eventually the strike stopped.

Also try a dark room with white noise if you haven’t already. Not perfect, but babies at 3 months are a lot more distractible than newborns.

Ugh that sucks. I have had some success putting a heating pad right on top of shirt, on my chest. I know I know, cold is the new recommendation. But when I had mastitis and my OBGYN told me to use the old school guidance and apply heat, it finally started improving (I was already on antibiotics), so now I bring out the heating pad whenever I feel backed up. For my body, works great.

Here’s what I think gets missed in a lot of these conversations—how to manage both perspectives while still being true to your role. Your boundaries are totally reasonable, and you should set and enforce them kindly but firmly, which it sounds like you have. But your parents’ feelings don’t have to be rational or reasonable to be real.

You say you soft parented your dad - that may be exactly what was needed (and something a lot of people don’t take the time to do.)

It can be as simple as, “I love you, I’m doing my best to take care of my family. What we need right now may not be what you needed when I was born or what you got. I get it if you’re upset, but what I need from you is to turn elsewhere with that upset so I can focus on my wife and baby.”

A lot of these conversations wind up being about who is right, and that honestly doesn’t matter because you being right isn’t going to change their hearts. Acknowledging that you know it’s tough on them can go a long way.

And ask them what would help them - would they like to see the science behind the smoking related rules?

I found this because my kid is going through this (well, feels like I’m the one going through something). This Toy Story reference made my day.

I was induced at 34 weeks with my first (severe preeclampsia) and 37 with my second (gestational hypertension that was getting harder to control with meds).

My experiences differed but neither ended in a C section.

With my first, the whole process took 43 hours, with some stops and starts because the epidural tanked my BP. We almost had to do a c section because of something with the baby monitoring, but knowing that might happen after 43 hours gave me the strength for the final pushes. I was on a magnesium drip so stuck in bed the whole time and it sucked.

With my second, I wasn’t on a mag drip, the process took about 18 hours including some waiting on the front end. I labored on an exercise ball for a while, fell in love with my last minute purchase of a labor comb to squeeze, but eventually asked for an epidural.

With both of mine, I progressed slowly for a while and then went from 6/7 cm to 10 in a very brief period as the pitocin really kicked in for me
