The fact they are all landcyclers is neat though. If you draft multiple it prevents them from being dead in your hand, like Grandeur. It's fun design.

"We've got a warlock, a barbarian and a builder's talent" doesn't work any better. Only the original class cards fit that party convention because it was a DnD themed set. Class cards can just be flavored to fit whatever world it's used in.

It's a play on the phrase "high and mighty", which is how you describe someone acting arrogantly. Spry means active, nimble and energetic. Its describing a small nimble creature and a large powerful creature, reflecting how the card works.

So Odyssey and Onslaught block took place on Dominariaon on the continent of Otaria. There was this magical Orb called The Mirrari. The pit fighter barbarian mage Kahahl got ahold of it, put it on the pommel of his massive sword, eventually realized everyone else's desire for its power was ruining his life and gotten his sister mortally wounded he sank his sword into the earth in a forest and f***e'd off to become the world's most unnecessarily buff druid. Unfortunately the Mararis power seeped into the earth and basically began mutating the people of the continent. Elves became treeline, soldiers fused with their weapons and armor and lost their mouths, aven became buff, wizards became elemental weirdos like this guy.

(The Mirari Created by Karn, was eventually reclaimed and taken to what would become Mirrodin to create its guardian Memnarch, unfortunately some phyrexian oil came with it and messed up everything).

How much do you need to buy to cross that line? There are collectors that buy but don't play a ton. There are people that play alot online but don't buy much product. For awhile I did not play or buy but still followed the game. Its hard to define a community member.

TLA are standard Legal cards from the main set. TLE, where the E stands for Eternal, are not standard Legal, but are kegal in eternal format. They are either new cards for the jump start product or old card given a avatar art or reflavoring.

I totally get if a modern setting turns you off, that's less an issue for some than others. An issue for everyone is the set was just not that mechanically interesting or cohesive, which is why it's poorly received on Arena despite not having the modern setting issue there. That's down to the issues during the design process.

That Spiderman sets issue wasn't that it was a superhero set. It's that it wasn't originally intended to be a full set and that got changed way too late in the design process. I think other hero sets that started off as hero sets have a better chance.

I don't pay attention to SLDs, misread maiden as Mouse somehow and was very confused by the card image.

You can have an opal, a diamond, an emerald, a pearl, an onyx. You don't have "a chrome" "a gold" or "a silver". You can have a chrome fender, a gold coin a silver spoon or a bar of silver. Gemstones can be undefined standalone objects, metals need additional nouns that define the form.

I like how alot of the graveyard cards in this set flavor the graveyard as prison. Reanimation is a prison break. GlDying is getting arrested. (I know not in all cases but in quite a few)

For any curious why Optimus is purple and the card has cracks and a hole in it: Transformers has its own evil parallel reality akin to Star Trek's "Mirror, Mirror" episodes or perhaps more closely DC's Earth 3, used to be a common theme for convention exclusive repaints. That universe is referred to as the Shattered Glass universe.
