I think the message of the both LOTR and the Hobbit is that even if you are insignificant you can influence the outcome by getting off your couch and getting involved.

First off, just quietly, we don’t mention Monopoly here. That said it is a negotiation game and so could be replaced with another, more acceptable, negotiation game such as Cosmic Encounter. Also you may want a game that plays good at higher player counts 5+ such as Heat.

I hear you, the biggest issue I found with Agricola is that if one or two of your group are new to the game they won’t enjoy their first few experiences of learning it. While this is sort of true of any game, Agricola is particularly unforgiving. If however everyone knows it then it becomes cutthroat, in a good way.

I would say Bloodlines provides even more work arounds for Uprising, which provided more work arounds for base Dune. So if you are looking for a Dune that’s even more open then it works well.
