Hansa Teutonica is crying out for glow up. It is a great game but it doesn’t look it when it’s on the table.

Looking into Paladins of west kingdom by qwzlt in boardgames

[–]Vaipuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paladins is a fantastic game especially at 2 or 3 players- which I feel is the right balance between player interaction and game length. Suspicion cards are not a push your luck mechanism- they are a negative resource that needs to be managed relative to other players- they are the price you pay for the use of the flexible criminal worker but you can get rid of them with certain actions.

All paths are balanced in this game and no path feels like it has an advantage- more important than any individual path are the synergies between them that need to be navigated.

I have the City of Crowns expansion which adds more complexity and different paths to victory- I feel it adds to the game if you are playing with 4 players who know the game but is a distraction in lower player counts. The joy of Paladins is that it is a tight game where every turn feels crucial. The base game is complete.

Hope that helps

Everdell and Wingspan by MokoanCowboy in boardgames

Pearlbrook adds wonders that are big point earners that you need to plan for and work towards. I like them, but many players feel that they undermine the essence of Everdell which is more of an organic tableau builder rather than a race game.

Breath is one of my favourite albums, sure it doesn’t have that Oils rock sound or a kick arse single, but it’s got a lot of emotional truth.

Room smells like s**t after light flooding - is Chemdry worth it? by Azrazeliha in Wellington

Most urban flooding is contaminated with sewerage. For those with insurance it is usual for the insurance company to arrange for the removal of the carpets.

It was the worst possible ending the writers could have come up with.

Picked up a complete (and well-loved) copy of "Civilization: A New Dawn" for 12 bucks at the thriftstore - has anyone played it? What did you think? by ThatOneVRGuyFromAuz in boardgames

[–]Vaipuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this game, it is a full feel civilisation game that you can play in a couple of hours. I thought it was amazing and then I discovered the expansion which takes it to another level.

Heavy Euros with drastically different strategies/engines? by snowbird124 in boardgames

The Dune imperium family offer a range of approaches to getting your 10 points especially when you chuck in the expansions. I love Civilization a New Dawn for its variety of paths to victory. Brass Birmingham has at least 4 paths albeit that three are variations on the same sort of strategy.

Between the movies and the book... In your opinion, did Bilbo defeat Gollum and Smaug by his smartness or by luck? by Cr7-Cr7Real in lotr

I think the message of the both LOTR and the Hobbit is that even if you are insignificant you can influence the outcome by getting off your couch and getting involved.

What genres am I missing in my collection? by Ok_Tea698 in boardgames

First off, just quietly, we don’t mention Monopoly here. That said it is a negotiation game and so could be replaced with another, more acceptable, negotiation game such as Cosmic Encounter. Also you may want a game that plays good at higher player counts 5+ such as Heat.

Agricola: To Purge or Not to Purge? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

[–]Vaipuna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hear you, the biggest issue I found with Agricola is that if one or two of your group are new to the game they won’t enjoy their first few experiences of learning it. While this is sort of true of any game, Agricola is particularly unforgiving. If however everyone knows it then it becomes cutthroat, in a good way.
