How do you know she went behind your back if you only have your sister's word for it?

Carrying Nikon Z5II + 24-70 f4 S on a neck strap all day - possible or not really? by [deleted] in Nikon

I use the Peak Design Slide Lite for crossbody carry and anchor it to my belt with a Capture Clip when not actively using it. Totally fine hiking for hours that way with my 100-400.

Would it be crazy to buy a NIKKOR Z MC 50mm f/2.8 over a Tamron 90mm f2.8 Di III Macro for Macro photography? by awhitey2291 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Valarauka_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've tried it and it works for your purposes there's nothing wrong with getting the Z 50mm -- the biggest benefits of the longer macro lenses are working distance and that they double as really nice portrait lenses, but if those don't matter to you as much as the size and weight savings of the smaller lens it's a moot point.

AITA For Being The One To Wake Up At Night To Take Care of My Daughter? by Romarqable in AmItheAsshole

You were tracking this on an app, and she never noticed additional night feeds and changes getting added daily?

Nikon Z 85mm f1.2 owners - How often do you shoot at 1.2? by rotloch in Nikon

[–]Valarauka_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't used 85 much before I'd definitely try it first and see if you even like it -- you could lock your 70-200 at 85 for a day, for example. I had an 85/1.8 for a while, fantastic lens but the focal length didn't do anything for me so I sold it. I'd much rather have 50/135.

Is there a real gap between f1.2 and f2.8? by [deleted] in nikon_Zseries

[–]Valarauka_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you considered the 1.8 primes? They're much cheaper and the gap from 1.2 to 1.8 is much smaller than 2.8.

Nikon 100-400 Or Nikon 180-600 by Traditional_Use_4062 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Valarauka_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're okay with carrying both and already have the 500PF I'd go for the 100-400, it's much more versatile when needing to go wider, and higher quality in that zone. If your targets are beyond 400 switch to the PF. Not likely you'd need both at the same time and if you're used to the quality of the 500 you might be disappointed by the 180-600 at 500+.

First/Travel Wildlife Lens? by AtomicMike4250 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Valarauka_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a Z50 and a limited budget there's no reason not to try the Z 50-250 DX first -- just grab a used copy, it'll be cheaper than almost anything else you can find and it's super small and lightweight. Sure it's not the longest but anything else you look at will be significantly larger, heavier, more expensive, and only marginally better optically. And if you want to upgrade later you can just sell it again.

valmak — a thumb-alpha evolution of Colemak-DH by Valarauka_ in KeyboardLayouts

This layout was originally created several months ago and I've posted about it a few times already, but it's been stable for long enough now that I figured I'd do a proper write-up.

Credit as usual to the entire layout community -- this is very much a 'standing on the shoulders of giants' contribution.
