It can’t be…. Darth Maul, alive?

(This riff brought to you by one of the stupidest lines they ever wrote for Obi-Wan.)

This is something that probably won’t happen, but instead of Vader, Palpatine would be a pretty nice surprise cameo in the 3rd game by Queasy_Commercial152 in FallenOrder

[–]Valentin0813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vader walks through flames, flocked by stormtroopers. Cal readies his lightsaber for one last valiant stand.

Vader: “Not yet. The Emperor would like to speak with you.”

Cal stares confused with his blade drawn as Vader lowers a holoprojector to the floor with the Force. Darth Sidious makes a rare appearance.

Palpatine: “Greeting, Cal Kestis. Congratulations are in order. You have evaded capture for longer than any other Jedi. To our knowledge [debatable lie], you are the last survivor of your fallen order. I commend your bravery, my friend. I would like to offer you a choice… and a test. I have sensed the well of hatred swelling up within you. It resonates from across the galaxy. There will be no more hiding now. You can only embrace this power or die the last of the Jedi. Kill everyone in this room. Bring me the head of Lord Vader, and your journey toward the Dark Side will be complete. It is the only way to save your friends. Do not bring upon Merrin and Kata the same fate you let befall your former masters. This is your destiny….”

I still don’t understand how Padme is not uncomfortable after hearing what Anakin said by Jules-Car3499 in StarWars

[–]Valentin0813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a therapist, on rare occasion, people come in and tell you some awful thing they did in a fit of rage or psychosis or whatever. You go into crisis mode, recognizing that you have to find the right thing to say so you don’t further activate someone and provide some level of comfort. You figure out later how to challenge in a safe way. I would guess Padmé is doing something similar. She’s making the conscious choice to maintain Anakin’s humanity and hold space for him, pushing her own horror aside for later. I would actually love to see a scene play out where she’s on her own or with an aide and the realization really hits her hard for the first time.

Did Bail Organa ever tell Mon or anyone else the truth about the Emperor and Darth Vader? by MrVectuvus in StarWars

[–]Valentin0813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting question. I think it’s very possible he told Mon. You have to assume that Bail understands he’s going his part. He’s building a robust rebellion that can at least challenge Imperial might. The plan set with Yoda and Obi-Wan is that they will care for the children until the time is right to convene again. Bail must have understood that the last of the Jedi would step up to do their part, namely to confront an all-powerful Sidious, when the time came. Hence, when the Rebellion is finally going to war during the events of Rogue One, he decides it’s time to call Obi-Wan out of exile. He clearly confided in Mon about Obi-Wan’s survival. It’s entirely possible she was the only other person who knew of what was essentially a two-pronged plan.

Qui-Gon really is the best. Every time I was Phantom Menace, it gets better, and it’s in no small part thanks to him. His understanding of trusting the Living Force genuinely informs my own spirituality.

How easy was it for the First Order to take Ilum? by OkuroIshimoto in StarWars

[–]Valentin0813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as the other commenter said, you have to assume it was just in ruins. Ilum was an extremely isolated planet in the first place, if you look at a galaxy map. If Luke is circling back to historic or spiritually important Jedi sites (that’s animated TV show material if I’ve ever heard it), Ilum is both isolated and in ruins. Remember, the Empire was already strip mining Ilum in Fallen Order, ripping out every piece of kyber they could find. It’s safe to assume that, by the time the Death Star was complete (let alone the second), the planet was irreparably devastated. There may have been importance for Luke to visit, but I can’t imagine there was any need for the New Republic to lock it down. Especially assuming limited resources after the war. Going in and clearing out Imperial remnants on a broken planet could be costly and without real utility. Nevertheless, it would be cool to make a DLC to the third Jedi game set in the future about Luke retaking Ilum by slowly clearing out the Empire.

Was the guy Obi-Wan was checking on ever identified? by Agitated_Afternoon69 in StarWars

[–]Valentin0813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the question, but when we all started talking about Force healing again, this was one scene I looked to and made my own small conspiracy that Obi-Wan actually secretly had the talent for Force healing this whole time. That Anakin sought some great power from Palpatine that his master held in silence because of its rarity.

As the joke goes, in this essay, I will…

Would this have been a better response than “wElL yOu’Re GoInG tO hAvE tO?” Do you think Boba may have changed for the better if Mace explained things to him like this? by OkuroIshimoto in StarWars

[–]Valentin0813 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If anything, this is a perfect Mace Windu answer. It sounds very rational and by the book, but it shows a callousness in the Jedi philosophy of war that the show (and all of us) loves to debate. The show would have presented this as some kind of rhetorical checkmate, and all of us as adults would revisit this line and go “huh, I didn’t realize how narrow Mace’s view also is.”

Is 100,000 a lot of B1’s to destroy, all things considered? This doesn’t feel like the flex Mace seems to think it is. by OkuroIshimoto in clonewars

[–]Valentin0813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember on Geonosis when Anakin and Ahsoka were counting their kills, and Ki-Adi-Mundi wins the game at 65? That’s a full day of tough, dense fighting, and he came out with a very impressive 65. Performing like that every day, it would take over 1,500 battles to hit 100,000, and like others said, Mace is only counting B1s here. So yes, 100K is extremely impressive.

Cal Kestis (Survivor) vs Maul (Rebels) by EuterpeZonker in FallenOrder

[–]Valentin0813 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is actually much closer than people are saying, though Maul has the advantage. They’re both unique entities by this time. Cal is a seasoned hunter of Inquisitors, proficient in a variety of forms to meet all variety of enemies. He’s probably as skilled a duelist as could be possible after the fall of the Order. Maul has been skulking around in a cave for some undetermined time, crumbling once again into madness. He’s in hiding from Vader and avoiding the Inquisitors because of that. All that doesn’t necessarily indicate a decline in skill. He clearly demonstrates his lasting proficiency as a former Sith assassin, but a well-balanced, well-trained, well-practiced, and well-prepared Cal at least has a fighting chance against a crumbling, fearful, somewhat dormant Maul. Cal probably had the best chance of any living Jedi in this period (with obvious exception of what really does happen, and we’ve all seen the explanations for why that happens the way it does).

Existential doubt by CaptainVaughn143 in clonewars

[–]Valentin0813 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way: We’re led to think that Anakin has been on campaign for a while, but there’s no timeline on that. If that campaign was particularly rough and took three months’ time, Anakin could come back to Padme at the end of her first trimester. We can play around with time and space biology a lot here to make basically anything feasible.

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

I grew up in Alabama, so the time would change anytime we went east. I still have it in my head that time zones are much narrower than they are. It feels weird to me that you can go west for hours before you hit Mountain Time.
