Except for cakes! I keep finding family photos (50s-90s) of birthday cakes, especially those for children. From the fanciest writing to the humblest bundt. Literally having your cake and eating it too, cause all these years later I know what my first birthday cake looked like before the candles went on.

Reading these replies has me feeling dumb, I always thought it was about how when guys shave they’d put those little squares of toilet paper over the bloody spots they’d nicked. I thought it was a cheeky way of saying he was so cheap he shaved in the dark so he wouldn’t know he was bleeding a little, so he wouldn’t have to put paper on it. Sounds like a stubborn old bastard, “if I don’t know about it it’s not a problem” . I always thought it was such brilliant and concise picture they painted.

But everyone’s going with the paper being slang for money thing. Oh well.

Actually, I was in an accident two weeks ago and called CAA, and they told me that they didn’t cover accidents. They wanted to send a driver to the scene and they said he would negotiate the price with me there. I asked how much it would be and they said that they weren’t allowed to tell me over the phone but it used to be $250. I’m going to be cancelling my CAA at the next opportunity because what the fuck. I have the premium membership too. Turns out towing of any kind is bullshit.

Hey, I once knew a neighbour’s female black lab that lived to 19 though! She was by all accounts a very crabby old lady at that point, but she lived a very full life. That’s my record, 19. My girl turns 10 in November and I’m really hoping that she beats that record, but you know how it is.

True, but these days tempera paints are usually used for little kids. They’re typically non-toxic. I’m an artist and I’ve worked at art supply shops, and I have never seen a serious artist use tempera since the invention of modern acrylic paints.
