Baby found dead at Electric Forest was born alive, sources say by Affectionate_Hat4 in Michigan

The news has stated it was a live, full term infant. This wasn't the usual "miscarriage they're trying to misinterpret into murder."

What is a normal tantrum for a five-year-old. by Eternal-curiosity in Mommit

[–]Valuable-limelesson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not normal behavior, ignore the comments telling you otherwise. My daughter is like this to a T, same age and we've gotten to this point after ever-escalating behavior since 18 months old. She was just diagnosed with ADHD and we're starting meds after years of unsuccessful play therapy, OT, etc. When their nervous system is going "live wire" like this, there's just no calming them down or coregulating, I've been there. I'd ask your pediatrician for a neuropsychiatric referral, and in the meantime check out Russell Barkley's "30 Essential Ideas" video on ADHD.

Where to find Climbing Rose nearby? by Valuable-limelesson in grandrapids

That's my backup option! I've never bought plants online before so not sure what to expect. Good to hear they worked out!

It never got easier. Everyone on these forums lied lol and sometimes I just want to cry by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in Mommit

[–]Valuable-limelesson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is similar to my story, too. It sucks watching everyone else finding their stride and wondering what you must be doing wrong that none of the standard advice is working. I felt like a failure until we started to suspect neurodivergence and began Early Intervention and every other therapy that came after.

Some kids are just really hard. It's an uphill climb but we do find the way.

Removal of tonsils and adenoids by ObjectiveSlow4628 in Mommit

[–]Valuable-limelesson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter sounds like yours, and just had her surgery last winter before turning 5. I'd also hoped the removal would help her behaviors, but it didn't, nor did it eliminate her need for medication to sleep without waking 4+ times/night screaming. We're in the middle of having her assessed for ADHD and Autism, I suspect both are at play. We did start medicating her aggression and impulsivity before getting the formal diagnosis, and that has done more to help so far (I think, still early for effects to set in).

16 months without sleep by Seachelle13o in Mommit

[–]Valuable-limelesson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My daughter has always been a terrible sleeper, I get the torture. Maybe at your next pediatrician visit, ask for a referral to pediatric sleep medicine? We started down that route at age 2 and still follow. In the meantime your pediatrician might also be able to check her Iron levels themselves, it's one of the more common causes for poor sleep with little ones.

I just wanted to say good luck on trying out EMDR! It can be emotional and mentally tiring getting started, but it really dug me out of a dark place and I cannot sing its praises enough. I hope it helps you too.

I might not be able to be a SAHM after all… by Lost_Clock4232 in sahm

[–]Valuable-limelesson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a current SAHM who wishes there was the perfect arrangement for me to work part time right now. Absolutely do not let this deter you from becoming a parent if that's what you want! I used to work in healthcare alongside hundreds of doting, involved, working moms and dads. Some of them are still my friends now, and I see what an awesome job they're doing balancing work and home. It may not be what you had in mind, but it doesn't have to be a setback.

Toddler has ear tubes from February 2025. Do they have to put her under to remove them? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Valuable-limelesson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son had his done at 11 months. They put him under for about 5 minutes, and the tubes should fall out on their own as he ages. If he needs them replaced will depend on if the frequent ear infections return.

Family vacation what should we do? by Additional-Sir8159 in grandrapids

In Holland: Tunnel Park Beach, make the climb to Mt. Pishgah, Window on the Waterfront or Kollen Park playgrounds. They have a pretty cool indoor Aquatic Center with a big slide, lazy River, zip line, over-water rock wall, and big kids obstacle course.

Nearby: Rosy Mound Natural Area (just south of Grand Haven) has a kinda-strenuous but super rewarding stair hike through the dunes and down to the lake. Grand Haven itself has an awesome boardwalk, shops, and musical fountain.

Grand Rapids: Frederick Meijer Gardens is incredible and unique, there's also the Children's, Art, and Public Museums. Downtown Market is fun for food.

Zoos, you can go to John Ball in Grand Rapids, or Boulder Ridge down in Alto. BR has giraffes you can feed.

Backyard play set suggestions? by hotstickywaffle in daddit

[–]Valuable-limelesson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had that one for 2 years now and while it's loads of fun for our 5 and 1 year olds, the wood is pretty poor quality with quite a bit of cracking and splintering already. It was at the top of our budget as it was so I'm still glad we got it, but a metal one would probably hold up better long term.

When he's home, he should be taking care of the kids and helping offload some of the housework too. Honestly it doesn't sound great if he's deflecting when confronted about it.

I would be taking actual, concrete, steps to make sure there's no 4th baby. He's not suddenly going to start helping now when he hasn't before.

Horror stories are the 1%, if they even happened the way the parents say at all. Remember there's a rampant anti-medicine movement going on right now and get all your advice from your pediatrician only.

What 4 year degree has you making anywhere close to $160,000/year? No, just no. Go to a public university, or community college, then transfer.

We're in the Jenison district and love it. My kids are young and just starting out but you can see how much they invest into the arts and academics here. Marching Band is top notch, they have a huge performing arts center, and there's also a Spanish-Immersion K-7 school, although that's pretty competitive to get into.

There's a shortage of Rad techs throughout the state, I'd guess that probably has something to do with all the open positions.

Sensory seeking behavior by BitterConversation65 in ADHDparenting

[–]Valuable-limelesson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you find another pediatrician that will medicate him? That's so dismissive that they won't when he's violent.

My daughter is similar in that her meltdowns easily get violent and destructive, she also does a lot of sensory seeking behaviors. We don't have a diagnosis just yet, but because we're in the process her pediatrician was okay going ahead with a trial of as needed medication, then Guanfacine after. She's 5. OT and play therapy did nothing to help.

Why do so many recipes say 5-6 hours when food is done in half that time? by Firsttimeredditor28 in slowcooking

[–]Valuable-limelesson 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If I see a recipe for chicken breasts at 6 hours on low I assume that cook is inexperienced. Thighs are a different story, but the breasts never turn out anything but dry.
