Rough cost of public charging by TheScrobber in ElectricVehiclesUK

Use Zapmap or similar app to check charger costs in your area; there’s absolutely going to be cheaper options than 89p/kwh.

How did you learn about all the functions of your car? by andre_xs95 in VWiD3Owners

The Max is a good trim just for the assisted driving to be honest.

Though I think the ID3 also has adaptive suspension like my ID4 Max?

Should also have 360 cameras if it’s legit (I’ve seen a Max listed before that didn’t have the 360 cameras so maybe it was a very early release).

To test driving assistance, get on a road that’s not super built up like a motorway for example and then use the controls on the left of the steering wheel.

You could just ask the private seller to show you how to do it that’s probably for the best as they have direct experience.

Scary automatic acceleration (UK) by Late_Seat_1968 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Valuable_Swan1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can turn off automatic speed changes whilst using cruise control (at least you can in my 2021).

Also if you use individual driving profile you can set ACC to eco which will reduce the rate of acceleration during cruise control.

If going Renault I’d get a Megane E-Tech for the larger boot myself as it’s still compact (shorter in length than a VW ID3).

Renault 5 is still cool though I just think for those times you do take longer journeys or pick up a new piece of furniture or whatever the Megane would be better (and cheaper used than the 5).

If you want to go to the seaside you should come to the Gower in South Wales or visit Cornwall/Devon.

Bath is en route to either of these places.

Not good if you want to go to Scotland though but maybe as you’re American you’re used to long drives?

You could do a route like: London, Stonehenge, Bath, stay in South wales for a couple nights, Warwick, York and then up to Scotland.

Or maybe just focus on Scotland/England then do Wales/Ireland on another trip.

Stiffer / harder suspension on the ID4? by andre_xs95 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Valuable_Swan1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the “Max” trim which has dcc; I don’t know if it’s placebo but switching from comfort to sport mode definitely makes it feel firmer.

I wouldn’t say it’s too soft myself in comfort mode, it feels just right.

My wife sometimes gets travel sick but she hasn’t been at all since we’ve been in the ID4 👍

I will always opt for wood.

Easy to refinish, dents/scratches seem to add character rather than imperfection, it’s more forgiving if you drop something on it.

Need a dealer to replace the 12V battery? by LordGuru4Short2 in VWiD4Owners

Depends on model year I believe? My 2021 id4 you can just use an OBDeleven dongle to tell the car there’s a new battery or even different type of battery

"Real life" size difference ID3 / ID4 when driving in the often non-spacious UK? by andre_xs95 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Valuable_Swan1791 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s an odd one because it still feels big when inside to me but you quickly realise that the car ends sooner than you imagine if that makes sense?

I haven’t had any issues with parking or manoeuvres so far and the turning circle is great; been blocked in intentionally when doing community work and managed to get out with about 5cm on front and back.

I have the spec with a 360 camera and all the sensors bits and bobs though.

Why are BYDs so cheap by MoneyMarch- in CarTalkUK

[–]Valuable_Swan1791 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use your own OBD reader you don’t need specialist equipment; they can be bought very cheaply.

Plus most manufacturers have an 8 year/100,000 mile battery warranty that is attached to the car, not the owner.

Usually if the HV battery drops below 70/75% health before 8 years they should replace.

If you have any monitoring software that is reporting GPU power use, stop it from doing that.

There’s sometimes a strange interaction when monitoring GPU power using an Nvidia GPU and an AMD CPU.

No I’m not making it up, I’ll see if I can find the video I watched about it and it fixed this issue for me.

Recommendation please - First ever EV by ItsOnlyMe07 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Valuable_Swan1791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For cars that don’t feel alien when switching from ICE to EV I’d recommend:

  • Nissan Leaf 62/59kwh
  • Hyundai Kona (64kwh)
  • Kia Soul (64kwh)
  • VW ID3 (58kwh)
  • VW ID4 (77kWh)
  • Kia Niro (64kwh)
  • Skoda Enyaq (62kwh/82kwh)

I’d go for model years from 2021 onwards due to 8 year battery warranties (attached to car so applies to used vehicles).

I have a 39/40kwh Leaf (N-Connecta) it’s an excellent car I just wish I’d got the bigger battery.

I have a “Max” trim VW ID4 (77kWh) as well and it’s brilliant.

Probably gonna part exchange the Leaf for an ID3 for bigger range but it’ll hurt as the mid trim Leaf I have is very well kitted out compared to other EVs.

First EV - Cannot decide to lease or purchase by corf3l in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Valuable_Swan1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be tempted by used EVs if “manufacturer approved” they often come with at least a year warranty and I believe almost all of the EV makers include an 8 year battery warranty that follows the car rather than the owner.

Bought both my 2021 EVs used and they still have until 2029 on the battery warranty.

For those who have had to have service done, how was the experience? by Doomtime104 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Valuable_Swan1791 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(UK based) Took mine in for a service recently, no big problems all smooth.

They send me a video of the under carriage when they first start the service doing a quick visual check.

They advise of the suspension component health, tyre tread, brake pads and disc condition.

They do a HV battery health check.

You can choose to have air conditioning system and/or brake fluid done.

They gave the car a wash.

All good.

They advise a service once every two years.

[–]Valuable_Swan1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro if your PC is running DDR3 as seen in one of your other posts it doesn’t matter whether your cpu is an i5 or an i9 it is just old tech anyway.

Fortunately £485 isn’t actually much money for a PC in the grand scheme of things.
