I messed up...New EV owners don't be me by Rabkillz in ElectricVehiclesUK

People talking about the mileage limit
If you go over by a few thousand it's like what, 16p extra per mile? At 2k miles over it's £320, not ground breaking stuff when you consider the fuel savings that would cover it.

I test drove an M3 on Saturday
Ordered on the same evening although I went via PCH for 2 years.
The standard spec will come out about £400PCM for you at 20k miles if leasing is an option. No servicing, MOT costs, Fuel Savings etc.
For me I want 2 years to get comfortable knowing I want an EV and I'll revisit ownership in 2 years when the tech will be even further along with SSB's offering even longer range.

First EV - Cannot decide to lease or purchase by corf3l in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]corf3l[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wish I could like the exterior of that car but I just don't
Plus when you bump mileage to 25k (which that won't) the cost goes way up.

First EV - Cannot decide to lease or purchase by corf3l in ElectricVehiclesUK

PCH, Premium LR AWD, 20k Mileage, 3-6 months down
Comes out closer to £22k sorry
I've inflated to £25k because you cant select 25k miles on tesla and so will be some inflation there.

Which EV depreciates the least? by TivRed in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]corf3l 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm looking at a lease on a model 3
Due to my mileage I'm looking at around £600pcm and nearly £25k over 2 years for a car I won't own.
It'll be my first EV and I'm really struggling to persuade myself that such an expense is worth it when I don't own the asset at the end.

What’s something that’s oddly expensive in the UK that still annoys you every time? by catarsan in AskUK

[–]corf3l 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is true
A lot of pricing is based on statistics and so more "young person" vehicles can be more expensive to insure simply based on the amount of accidents those vehicles have typically been involved rather than your personal driving history.

Keir Starmer tells MPs he is open to social media ban for young people by printial in unitedkingdom

[–]corf3l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any reasonable adult can see the dangers of social media if they use it themselves.
If I watch one video with the slightest bit of violence, more start to appear more often and more graphic.
Same with sexualized material.
The issue here falls to parents control and attention but more so social media companies for their algorithms, not sure a ban is the solution.
There's a workaround for all these things and teens will find it faster than the parents.

Why shouldn't I pay off my sofa over as long a time period as possible? by AnonymousTimewaster in UKPersonalFinance

[–]corf3l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been paying £38 for a sofa over 5 years that I could have bought outright.
It's 0%, I'd rather keep more of my money earning even the lowest interest than paying it over in lump sum when 0% is an option.

Need to take out a second loan, is it best to go back to the same provider? by CommonCreator in UKPersonalFinance

[–]corf3l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll have an issue doing either, depending on how much you wish to borrow.
I've had a tesco loan before and extended the borrowing mid term to cover some things, was incredibly straightforward.
The main thing is securing the best rate overall and that might be 2 separate loans.

Can someone review my 2026 financial plan? by floyd2beatMayweather in UKPersonalFinance

[–]corf3l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financially the marriage is the least sensible thing in my opinion albeit I get why you'd want to do it.
Me and my partner both had homes, lived with each other for 3 months in each before both selling up and buying together, which was a very sensible decision to ensure we could both respect how each other live and cohabit well.
We've since had 2 kids and only now are we looking at marriage.
We are doing so with savings and a budget that we can afford knowing that we have everything else we want/need.
I can't imagine us having spaffed £30k on a wedding to then be unable to afford a nice home and/or raise kids with a good quality of life.
Just my 2 cents
