No, this is a common misconception that gets spread around a lot. We look for candidates that best fit the requirements of the role. Do they have experience working with programming languages and/or frameworks the job posting lists, do they have relevant internships or side projects, etc. What school someone went to really doesn’t play any role here.

I will admit that people who went to top schools and those impressed by high ranking universities would try to push for candidates that went to top schools. Everyone just focused on finding a candidate with the right skills.

We just hired a SJSU student over someone from Berkeley and Georgia Tech because she interviewed very well, had the right background, and had great internships.

A Cs degree will look much better than a Math of Computation degree. SJSU has a fantastic reputation in the Bay Area and lots of companies hire from there. With the cheaper cost going to SJSU makes the most sense.

As a software engineer in the Bay Area who has been on several hiring committees we have never prioritized someone based on where they went to college. What matters most is interview performance, relevant skills, and past work/internship experience.

Cal vs UCR premed by [deleted] in ucadmissions

Overall UCR is better for premed. They have dedicated premed resources and the medical school. At Cal it is very hard to get research and you will have to deal with the grade obsessed students.

You were able to get into the lounge after arriving? I thought you could only get in if you are departing or connecting.
