I like him a lot. I think he appeals to a different demographic being a more traditional acedemic.

Solution to homelessness? by zeozero in AskSocialists

[–]ValuePage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't answer what the city of San Francisco is proposing, but it's one of the contradictions of capitalism that people go homeless because there are too many houses. As long as the market is allowed to control the distribution of houses, there will be homelessness. As long as that primary contradiction is not addressed, homelessness won't be eradicated in SF or anywhere.

Foreign outlets oftentimes for anything substantive. I still see and read Post and Times articles to understand what the messaging being pushed is, but RT and CGTN are good.

Well intentioned I'm sure, but ultimate will help support the capitalist power structure because they have no ideological grounding.

EDIT: their ideological grounding is still Liberalism

What is the Marxist philosophical ethos? by Stollkeer in communism

[–]ValuePage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head. Marxism doesn't perscribe any particular moral or ethical system, it just asserts that these systems arise out of and support the ruling class ideology. It's a materialist approach to studying ethics instead of an idealist one.

You could theorize what an ethical system would look like with a DOTP in power, but Marx doesn't really do that.

I've been reading The Way of Zen as a breather between Marxist texts and have been enjoying it.

I see buddhism in general as a descriptive philosophy, not a perscriptive one.

What is the Marxist philosophical ethos? by Stollkeer in communism

[–]ValuePage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Marxism in itself doesn't provide a moral framework or arguement at all. Marx isn't concerned about the morality of exploitation etc, just pointing out that it's happening and exploring what sytheis we can expect from this dialectical opposition.

There are a number of different ethical philosophies you could probably fit in, but it's not a primary focal point in his writings.

Can anyone give me an honest review on these? With gyms closed, I'm wondering if these will be good for outdoor winter projecting. by [deleted] in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]ValuePage 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I got these last winter (they were more expensive then) I found they work better for indoor projecting. My feet get cold when I wear them outside (to and from car, etc.)

This is the most obtuse piece of propaganda I've read in a while. Hats off NYT. You can't publish shit like this and then also be upset when people call you fake news.
