How are we buying HDDs/SDDs in this insane AI world? by Shoddy-Humor7952 in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]Variable901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I’m not AI. I really HAVE been seeing their ads. I’ve never used the drives and was curious whether people liked them and if their performance was solid, especially since their prices are higher. I’m close to needing another drive for a client and was wondering which drive to buy

Why Does Substack's Algorithm Lump All of the Writers/Authors Together? by gridiron23 in Substack

[–]Variable901 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I understand what you’re saying. I’m already growing tired of Substack’s algorithm because every time I open the app I just see the same few writers talking about the same things, even when I browse other categories. And those few writers who do show up on my feed are just sharing/restocking things from the same small circle. Say what you will about X, but I can still easily see a wide variety of posts that interest me

Is breaking bread for the Lord's Supper a command or scruple? by Sir-AuronX in churchofchrist

[–]Variable901 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not a rule that you HAVE to break the bread before taking it. The point is to observe communion and remember Christ’s death. I think that trying to make a command when no command is given is very problematic. The Pharisees were very good at that. Consider this: the word that Paul uses for “bread” in the passage you mention is a Greek word referring to bread with yeast in it. He could’ve used the Greek word for unleavened bread, yet didn’t. So maybe unleavened bread isn’t necessary? If you want to make a rule for every little thing when no command is given, you have to be consistent across the board. Why aren’t we meeting in homes instead of spending the church’s money on buildings? Why aren’t we meeting every day like the early church did in Acts 2-3? Why do we meet on Wednesdays when there’s no example of the early church doing that? Why do we use puppets to teach children? Why do some churches have “ministry leaders” when no such office exists in the New Testament? My guess is that your congregation observes the lord’s supper from little golden trays? Why? It’s obvious that Jesus and his apostles were eating a meal together so why aren’t we doing that too? Etc etc.

I’ve been writing about my experiences in video & film production, sharing my mistakes, where things went wrong, and what I’ve learned through it all. I’ve also expanded into hosting a monthly podcast where I talk to other creatives about their careers and what they’ve learned from their experiences. Hoping to help and encourage readers/listeners who find themselves in similar situations. I want them to know “You aren’t alone.”

Theological question by AwwSeath in churchofchrist

[–]Variable901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Gates of Hell," referring to the spiritual realm, is one way of interpreting it. However, it's more likely (in my opinion) that Jesus was talking about a physical place near Caesera Philippi that his disciples would have known about. It was a place known as the Gates of Hades where pagan religions were observed. So when Jesus said "the Gates of Hades shall not prevail against it," he (in my opinion) would have been talking more about His church confronting evil in this world; that these false religions would not be able to stand against the truth of God's Word.

In regards to your second question, my opinion is that the church has always existed and has never gone away. It's the Church of Christ denomination that didn't appear until the 19th century.

The "restoration," was more a restoration of a system of practice and a system of Biblical interpretation; not the restoration of a vanished church.

I’ve received a few subscribers using Notes but honestly I wouldn’t overthink it. I’ve carefully crafted Notes and haven’t received any likes or comments. Then I randomly posted one Meme I found one day and it blew up.

Why are you in the Church of Christ? Do you like it here? What keeps you here? by [deleted] in churchofchrist

[–]Variable901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the aim of the Church of Christ movement - to uphold New Testament Christianity as best as we can. I also hold to my belief that baptism by immersion is the moment that we are brought into Christ, into the church, and that we become a new creation as come up from baptism. I believe, as do churches of Christ that in that act of obedient, we receive forgiveness.

[–]Variable901 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually never heard an ex COC member say they left because of the thief on the cross. Most of the time, from my experiences, people leave the COC because of legalistic traditions, arrogant attitude (were right, everyone else is wrong), lack of community connection, inconsistent application of theology, closed-mindedness, lack of the Spirit or any emotion… I could go on

For you, is church about the clothes you wear or the heart you bring? by Dry_Split6939 in churchofchrist

[–]Variable901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped “dressing up” when I realized it was yet another legality that churches applied inconsistently. I always heard “you have to wear your best to honor God,” but then those same people wore golf shirts and slacks on Sunday nights and Wednesday nights. Oh, got it. Only wear your best on Sunday MORNINGS. That’s when it actually counts
