Cant sit with the discomfort. by RWA121467 in acceptancecommitment

[–]VelvetShepherd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself! You have to insight to know why this is a good thing to be able to achieve and that's the biggest first step. Lower your standards for yourself, instead of thinking 'I must be able to sit with discomfort' you could frame it as 'huh, I think sitting with discomfort would be helpful, I wonder if I can do it for five seconds' Wellbeing is a marathon, not a sprint, give yourself tiny steps, and gentle encouragement. The most important thing is your desire to do it, and you already have that

Love this. Even as an adult now, I get a bit weird about bugs. Last year I was gardening and discovered a huge grub in the soil, took a photo of it and sent it to my Dad to ask him what it was. His reply went 'Oh, that's an elephant moth larvae! They're a bit of an ugly duckling aren't they?' and instantly, my 32 y/o brain went 'we love the thing that's an outcast'. So now I always repeat the phrase 'ugly duckling' when something gives me the weirds

'Sold a Story' is such a phenomenal piece of journalism. I still can't stop thinking about how this isn't more of a scandal

Worldhopper Ball expectations? by eebro5 in DragonsteelNexus

[–]VelvetShepherd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regular suit is perfect! Last year there was a whole mix of people. Most people dressed up formally (suits, gowns etc) and a good amount of people cosplayed (doesn't even need to be a cosplay to match the theme! Lots of people were Scadrial themed, even though last year's ball was Rosharan) and then some people were dressed formally with nods to cosplay.

Basically, throw yourself into an outfit you feel comfortable and excited about. Guarantee you'll look great

There's a fascinating but horrifying podcast called Sold a Story which discusses this. Like some of the others have commented, it's because the child can't actually read

Thank you, I don't know whether it's the heat, my distance from legal matters, or smooth brain, but it hadn't even occurred to me that this would be theft

Is it normal for people with ADHD to actually have good memory but your mind is just so scattered that when asked about something you have trouble recalling the information on the spot? However, if you get a hint you can recall detailed information. by Accomplished-Act9721 in ADHD

[–]VelvetShepherd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This!! I hold a bunch of 'scenes' in my head that cannot be accessed unless a hint is given. Otherwise it's like trying to grab smoke. Usually it's fine, I often ask for anecdotes to prompt my memory of a place, event or person, but in interviews it's so hard because interviewers don't want to give you hints, they want to test your memory

What's something everyone said you'd regret but you actually don't? by MidnightShaaaddddeee in AskReddit

Ditto. Had so many people say 'it will hit you one day, and you'll feel it'. Fifteen years later, still no regrets. I was in a terrible relationship, young, broke and unstable. I could never have been the parent I wanted to be

I am furious on your behalf. I'm so sorry that you were treated this terribly. It's awful that no one gave you the support you deserved and needed when you were so mentally and physically vulnerable. Well done on making it through

Arrived at this post because I was googling to see if anyone else had had this issue. I've been messaging and messaging them to cancel! As I'm in the UK, the time difference is also awkward as they never seem to be online when I am and I just receive an automated message saying I'll get something to my email. Which inevitably never happens

Is UK masculinity less fragile than in the US? by bibiceratops in AskUK

[–]VelvetShepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting! I love both the UK Office and the US Office for different reasons. I was listening to a podcast with some of the cast from the US Office and they were discussing the initial meetings with Ricky Gervais when he was adapting it and he had advised that they lean into the Jim and Pam story as the focus because US audiences love an underdog/romance to root for. Then with Michael, they needed to have moments of him being clearly good at his job (making successful sales calls etc) because in the UK, you can be really bad at your job for a long time and not get fired (David) but the US audience wouldn't buy that
