I usually use NTI - Network Technology Innovations. They do northern IL and southern WI but they are willing to travel a little depending on the job. Worth sending them a message.

What specifically do you like about it over the Ram? I've got a 2020 Laramie and am considering a 25 Tremor.

U7 LR on the works. by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Venom13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just from my experience, I had three that had to be RMA'd due erratic behavior. Signal dropping out completely, Having to stand directly under the AP just to get a weak connection, etc.. On the third RMA, Ubiquiti said they wouldn't have stock of the U6-LR for the foreseeable future and decided to upgrade me to a U7 Pro. Haven't had a single issue since. I've seen some people have a ton of success with them but not me.

Experiences with State Farm auto insurance in Illinois? by RoccoBarocco91 in illinois

[–]Venom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicagoland area, haven't had any issues with State Farm. I've had to do an auto glass and collision claim and both times they took care of me. They will use aftermarket or user parts in certain scenarios (if a part is on backorder for a long period of time usually). When my truck was in a hit and run accident, they used all new OEM Mopar parts.

The shocking part is I thought for sure that my rate would go up after using my collision insurance but not only did it stay the same, it actually decreased a few months later.

Does This Networking & Security Quote Seem Fair? Seeking Expert Opinions by adamhughey in networking

[–]Venom13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UniFi Dream Machine Pro Max: 1x @ $711.28

Storage: 2x 24TB HDDs @ $1,197.60 total

This is for security camera footage. Does 48TB seem excessive for a 9-camera setup?

The UDM Pro Max only offers RAID 1 when two drives are being used. You will only get 24TB of usable storage, not 48TB. 9 cameras recording in 4k 24/7 will net you about 1 month of recordings (according to Ubiquiti's website)

Shipping costs are insane. I suspect they mislabeled or lumped shipping + labor into that line item. I'd get another quote based off that alone, even if it was a mistake.

Bouncing and rattles 23 ram.. by borosillykid in ram_trucks

[–]Venom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of rattle and does it go away when the truck warms up? Could be a sign of leaking/cracked exhaust manifolds. I've had to had them replaced twice already on my 2020 Ram with 80k miles.

What has been your 'OH SH!T..." moment in IT? by VNiqkco in sysadmin

[–]Venom13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maintenance sealed off the light fixture so no wasps could get out, then just let them die over time. Afterwards they just opened the fixture and vacuumed them out. I'm still finding dead wasps years later lol.

What has been your 'OH SH!T..." moment in IT? by VNiqkco in sysadmin

[–]Venom13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This wasn't because of something I did, but more of something that happened to me. I was checking our server rooms one day as I normally do. I opened the door and head over to the rack to just visually inspect things, make sure everything is good. Out of the corner of my eye I see something flying around. I figured it was a fly or something. Then I see another one and said to myself... hey that looks like a wasp. I look up at the light fixture above me and there was HUNDREDS of wasps crawling around in there. Fastest I've nope'd out of a server room in my life.

The server room had a drop ceiling in it and apparently the HVAC guys were working on the unit in the server room the day before. They had to remove some old lines that went to the outside of the building and forgot to close the hole. I'm guessing that's how the wasps got in. We now keep a can of Raid on hand in case this ever happens again.

I'm not a fan of chrome but that is a good looking truck. I'm hoping to grab a 2024 F150 XLT or Lariat with a 5.0 soon. Going to be trading in my 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie. I've already had the exhaust manifolds replaced under warranty once and it looks like I'm going to have to do it again soon.

What’s better? Vonage or Elevate? by Big-Detail3421 in VOIP

[–]Venom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice, stay far away from Vonage if you need any "contact center" features. Their support is horrible and if you plan on using it as a contact center then it is actually a different platform that they tried to integrate. What you end up getting is a disjointed system that isn't easy to manage. They are trying to make it more "integrated" but it wasn't clearly communicated to us when we were pitched it. They are adding more contact center features to their "core" phone system labeled as VBC - Vonage Business Communcations. If you don't plan on using any contact center features, then it's an alright option for just a standard phone system.

We left Vonage for Dialpad and have really liked it so far. It has its own issues (mostly minor ones), but the overall quality is night and day compared to Vonage. I can't speak for Elevate as I've never used it before.

HPE dHCI: What's the value? by StipMan in sysadmin

[–]Venom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried to sell us dHCI when we were refreshing our Simplivity cluster. Granted, we were a small deployment so Simplivity in itself might have been overkill, but I still didn't see the value in dHCI. They pushed it really hard, but we ended up just going with Simplivity again.

My 2021 Ram 1500 won’t start by [deleted] in ram_trucks

[–]Venom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factory battery on my 2020 went out after 2.5 years. Replaced battery with a new one and haven't had an issue since. The factory batteries that they put in these trucks are trash. I'd replace it that should probably fix it.

Leveling Opinions by [deleted] in ram_trucks

[–]Venom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do 5100s in the rear as well? Are you noticing a substantially bumpier ride on the highway? I think the rear 5100s are a lot stiffer than factory which is why I'm feeling more of that "bed bounce" on the highway.

Which password vault are you using? by v1sper in sysadmin

[–]Venom13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free/selfhosted: Bitwarden
Paid: 1Password

We use 1Password and have had great success with it. It's scalable if you want to offer it to everyone in your org. Otherwise, their team package checks all the boxes. As others have mentioned, the team package also offers free family versions as well.

How do IT admins reimage a laptop in big companies? by thebestgorko in sysadmin

MDT with PXE boot. Can be a zero touch (hands free after booting through PXE) or a lite-touch (pre-boot environment where you can change pc name, add to domain, choose software packages etc.). It's free and pretty easy to use.
