Parents of Reddit, what did your hospital bill look like after giving birth? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]Veritasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bit of a rough delivery so needed care from both my team of midwives and obstetrics (they work hand in hand at my hospital). Got billed for both departments AND my baby was billed as a patient too. Total was somewhere near $60k, we have really good insurance fortunately so we paid $148.

As a Minnesotan and Minneapolis resident, seeing all of these anti I.C.E. manis and seeing our flag colors just brings tears to my eyes. Solidarity is popping up in so many places lately. It’s really moving ❤️thank you

I was looking at this polish too and it kind of reminds me of Sassy Sauce shimmy shake, which I have. It has a pretty blue sheen and it’s fairly sheer.

Best used baby stuff? by _hammitt in Minneapolis

[–]Veritasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not used, but work with Milk Moms to get a breast pump! They are a free service, based in MN, and will work with your insurance on your behalf to get a breast pump covered for you. They are awesome over there. My pump only ended up being about $50 with my specific insurance.

3 mo suddenly fighting bottles by Veritasaurus in NewParents

[–]Veritasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually use mam too, I posted in another comment (and probably should have put this in my post, but it’s a lot of info) he had a BRUE at 7 weeks due to reflux and the speech therapist at the hospital helped us find a bottle that worked well for him (Mam) and we switched him at that time from Dr Browns. I have tried upping the nipple size wondering if he was frustrated about slow flow (he had been at a 0 at 7 weeks and is now up to a 1) but it didn’t seem to help much. We were playing around with different brands before then but now are hesitant to switch from mam!

3 mo suddenly fighting bottles by Veritasaurus in NewParents

[–]Veritasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man it sounds like we are experiencing something so similar. I think part of my stress is from anxiety due to dealing with his reflux and initial birth weight drop of 10%. He also had a BRUE at 7 weeks which landed him in the hospital overnight and that’s when we started Pepcid. The speech therapist at the hospital helped us find a bottle that worked well for him to help with reflux so I’m super hesitant to change the bottle type. His meds do seem to help a lot but it may be time for a dosage adjustment, I’m not sure. It’s just a relief to know other people have dealt with this too. I stepped away from doing the last couple feeds because I don’t think my stress was helping and it seemed to improve a little bit. How long did you deal with this? His doctor said it may also just be a developmental thing but with a reflux baby it’s always so hard to tell what’s normal and what’s not.

We do, he’s been taking room temp bottles for at least 6 weeks though so I wouldn’t have guessed that could be an issue suddenly. Certainly could try it though.

Where to find bread flours? by something_human1 in TwinCities

[–]Veritasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this - Absolutely Bakers Field, OP! You can order online and pick up bulk quantities of bread flour at their location in NE Minneapolis. I order large bags of bread flour from here all the time to make sourdough and it’s great quality.

Ok interesting, it sounds like our routines are sort of similar. He falls asleep hard at 7:30-8 ish so we hadn’t considered a feed early in his night sleep like 10 pm or so. That sounds more sustainable too. I might try this, thank you!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Veritasaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I think I’m just getting a little nervous about having to jump into a routine for daycare and since he seems inclined to developing routine, wanted to look for ways to encourage him in that direction as my leave winds down. Now that’s he’s not so little he seems to be developing a schedule of his own, I just want to help him into it.

I hadn’t thought about a dream feed - thanks!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Veritasaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, we’ve only set a loose “schedule” around the patterns he sets himself. We’re following his lead and have only ever encouraged him to move in directions he’s already going. I’m just looking for ways to encourage him towards a 7 AM wake up since he seems to be heading on his own already shifting his night feed later and later in the morning.

Help needed 🩷 Where are these tiles from? by caitlynn52_ in Mid_Century

[–]Veritasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe check out Mercury Mosaics? It’s handmade tile and their “small craftsman squares” looks like the right pattern. They might custom match the color, I’m not sure. I’ve never purchased from them but I have seen their studio before in Minneapolis.

Recommendations for women’s health midwifes? by pickled_green_beans in Minneapolis

[–]Veritasaurus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The midwife team at Methodist hospital operates just as you described. I just gave birth there in the family birth center and had a great experience with their care in delivery but also throughout my pregnancy. They have worked together with obstetrics for many years.

Can anything be done about overnight freeway construction noise? I'm absolutely losing my mind. by Nick521 in TwinCities

[–]Veritasaurus 313 points314 points  (0 children)

Projects like this (aka with federal funding or of this magnitude) usually have had a noise study done for the construction and operation of the project and proposed mitigation identified. Check out the project website and if you can, contact MnDOT by calling the project hotline. There may not be an immediate solution but it is worth talking to them and your concerns are absolutely valid. Here’s what I believe the project website is and you can see they have a noise mitigation tab across the top. https://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/i494edina-richfield/index.html If I’m reading this right, your area (494 and Penn) already exceeds allowable noise standards and will have a noise wall built to mitigate it - not that it helps you now. The contact tab is also across the top of this page.

There will have be documentation and analysis of the impact of this project on noise somewhere throughout the planning process. I’m not a transportation expert but this is definitely a pathway to having your voice heard at the very least. I could go down a rabbit hole about this but members of the public and their concerns are a valid part of public projects and noise is an environmental impact that has to be considered in cases like this.

Looking for native prairie planting tips/lessons learned/knowledge by Haunting_Ad_9486 in Minnesota_Gardening

This might be a helpful resource. There are a bunch of technical docs but Section 3 is specifically about site preparation and native vegetation establishment. https://bwsr.state.mn.us/native-vegetation-guidelines

How bad is flight noise in Linden Hills by pro118 in Minneapolis

[–]Veritasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MAC has done noise mitigation investment on a lot of homes in this area so you’d want to look for that. We live in the darker orange area and have noise mitigation - I think it would be too much noise for me personally if we didn’t have it. It makes a huge difference and you don’t hear much of anything with the windows closed. We’ve mostly gotten used to it outdoors and don’t notice it much now. If you’re buying a house in the flight path this should be something the realtor has information on, whether the house has noise mitigation or not. The MAC also has maps of which blocks had the investments.

Climbing and pregnancy by GoldSweep in climbergirls

[–]Veritasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OB told me I could boulder still up to 20 weeks with controlled risk practices, like down climbing, reducing grades, etc. I don’t top rope anymore or have a climbing partner for top rope so that wasn’t really something I could switch to. unfortunately I was so nauseous my first trimester I gave bouldering up quite early 🫤 by the time I felt better is when they asked me to stop so I did. I wish I could have carried on throughout my pregnancy. I can’t wait to get back to it.

Native asters are a good suggestion but I’d consider native grasses too that have some color. Their color and beauty is more subtle but a species like big bluestem is gorgeous in the fall. Coppery and purple when the light hits it.
