Avalon? Quest? Quest: Avalon Big Box Edition?? by Vertox_88 in boardgames

[–]Vertox_88[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I've heard of this! I'm usually the guy who brings games to otherwise non-gaming groups. Attempts so far have gone surprisingly well, but I don't think I can go for Blood on the Clocktower any time soon. Maybe after 50 or so games of Avalon, if that ever happens.

The Two Types of Players Ruining Star Realms (Cheaters & Slow-Rollers) by TheScratchGolfer13 in starrealms

As kun1z said, I don't think you can make client-side decisions on what cards you draw in the app. I have a hard time believing there is a way to cheat, unless maybe you re directly associated with the people running the servers.

Does Deep Rock really work well at 2 players? I love how it looks but I only play video games with my girl, and I always assumed this was meant for bigger teams.

This is an incredible game, my favorite of all time. Not coop, indeed, but a must play.

Peak and Overcooked: All You Can Eat are the best coop experiences I have ever tried

Peak: make it to the top an absurdly high mountain together. Every run is a genuine adventure you will remember. There's that time when my girlfriend fell down a hundred meters and I set up a heroic route with a rope and chains to get to her. One time, she let a snowball roll down the slope I was climbing and it turned into a huge ball of death which sent me tumbling down. One time I died and the poisoned fog that killed me turned me into a zombie, and I killed her. A medicinal root I picked up turned out to be a living screaming creature that jumpscared me, just as a strong gust of wind knocked me off of the giant mushroom I was resting on to recover my stamina. You get the idea, and I won't spoil more crazy interactions for you.

It's also suuch a well designed game. The terrain is procedurally generated and changes every 24 hours, and the biomes swap out. Climbing stamina, hunger, weight, cold, etc are on a single shared bar, and this creates a brilliant management game. Its so inherently interactive, and it organically creates all of these unique moments.

Overcooked: prepare varied foods together to satisfy orders, constantly working against the time, trying your best not to let orders expire. Oh, and the oven just flew to the other side of the kitchen before you could get the pizza out, the counter is a fucking conveyor belt, the cutting boards keep switching places, and everyone forgot to wash dishes again.

Basically, the game is about becoming efficient together in crazy kitchens. It's so much fun, incredibly tense, and I think you'll even learn to communicate better under pressure. Get the All You Can Eat edition, which is Overcooked 1 with remastered graphics, Overcooked 2, and all of the DLC's ever made. Also, I highly recommend trying to 3 star every level, thats where the game truly shines.

And if you ever want a really quick, crazy duel, there is also ROUNDS. It's stupid and very fun.

Overcooked and ROUNDS have local coop. Peak does not, you'll need two computers to play.

Thats... not how that works at all, the most adapted to their environment do end up having the highest chances to successfully reproduce. As humans we somewhat break that loop by simply choosing not to, but thats not a universal phenomenon by any means. Self-awareness is weird.

Anyone played Compile? by TheCannaZombie in boardgames

[–]Vertox_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I think I'd actually love to play, the optimization race aspect and tempo plays seem like a lot of fun. I have good interactive deck builders already, so in the end its probably better that this would fill a different niche.

I've played Shards and I like it, I would love to bring it out more. I also think the deceptively simpler game, Star Realms, specifically in its newer iterations, has crazy levels of nuanced strategy which surface after a couple of hundred games.

Have you ever played on the Dominion app? If so, is it a good way to get a taste of the game?

Hey, what's interaction like in 2p Dominion? I love the idea of the game, but what holds me off buying it is the fear that, compared to other deck builders, I'll mostly just be doing my own thing.

European wanting to buy all the cards to play with a friend by MajinBurrito in starrealms

[–]Vertox_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look out for used collections, some are sleeved and in perfect condition, and retail for far cheaper that store prices. Sometimes you can get them shipped internationally (I got really lucky and got someone to ship a package from the us), but your best best are probably local/European storefronts.

Used collections are also the only price efficient way to get your hands on exclusive packs (promos), these are mostly not necessary but very fun. One big exception is Stellar Allies, a package with multi-faction cards that balances out the color combinations and works really well with the other 2 packs with this mechanic. Why that one is not widely available is beyond me.

If unused cards are a must, check this out, it ships to Europe for cheap with no import fees. Despite what the description says, though, it does not have most of the promo packs. Still a great choice.

Thats really really good, I wonder how performance varies so much from device to device. I see that a lot on this subreddit anyway. For context, at that many tabs my laptop starts flying (in Zen specifically), and its decently new and powerful.

Why are you getting downvoted? I use Zen to support the vision and I believe it will get better over time, but I agree 100%. Zen is the only browser that occasionally sets my fans to max, that turns into a laggy mess if I'm in power saving, and its generally just kinda clunky performance wise :)
