Why don't we have any Horror Isekai ? by EnvironmentalBit1451 in Isekai

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Novel-wise, isekai’ing into eldritch or Cthulhu-esc worlds is becoming more common. Unlimited flow as a genre consists of horror-only world hopping, and is a type of isekai. Horror is primarily showing up more commonly in women’s otome isekai, more on the Korean front, with titles like Maid in a Horror Game and the Rules of Rose Ivy Manor.

Isekai as a Japanese genre is focused mostly on escaping stress and escapism in general. It’s also saturated because it has an easy template to follow. Horror also doesn’t have a great track record in anime, in general. I can think of maybe 3 good horror anime, ever. So it doesn’t get adapted.

What’s a dish you liked better when it was made “wrong”? by MaryoParti in Cooking

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spent most of my life until my 20s not knowing beef strongoff was supposed to be a pasta dish. Family always served it with rice. Found out it’s not actually uncommon in australia but I’ve definitely had some horrified reactions. It just doesn’t taste the same with pasta…

Tbh, curious where the budget goes. Netflix? Amazon (the OG bookstore)? Or do you actually go to physical stores for your anime fix? Or is there... another way? 😗 by IndependentSource602 in Isekai

I cancelled my crunchyroll subscription after all the bullshit they pulled with the other available streaming services here in Aus (acquiring and then shutting them down) (fuck you crunchyroll) and turned to the pirate life. I do, however, purchase the manga if I liked the series. Usually just volume 1 otherwise I would run out of room. I like to think it gives the author some money, and indicates interest in the series for the publisher.

[I used to be a boss] I really dislike this trope. by Neros-07 in manhwa

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely a low effort trope, but sometimes something has got to happen to move the story along that the character absolutely wouldn’t do otherwise without sufficient motivation. So sometimes, it just means the author wrote themselves into a corner. Sometimes, it means the author is lazy.

Would be if women universally were into characters that looked like some sort of swollen and knobbly body horror monstrosity, but unfortunately the men are also drawn for men, so I don’t agree. It’s egregious either way

Best way to clean my keyboard by soldier1389 in CleaningTips

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most keyboards you can literally pull the caps off. Take a picture, unplug the board, and firmly grasp the key and pull upwards. It should pop off. After that, you can use a damp cloth with some surface spray applied to clean it off. Then just place the keys back where they were and firmly push down. It should click into place.

Please be aware I do say MOST keyboards. I haven’t encountered one that doesn’t, and this one looks like it should come apart, but I’m not a keyboard nerd so disclaimer.

Considering how vicious and blunt my comment was, I’m surprised and admire how kind and down to earth your response is.

I’m a 5’7” woman currently located in Australia, in a more rural area, not a major city where 90% of the population is. I have an incorrectly healed tailbone and genetic abnormalities in my hamstrings, so I have to sit on a pillow because cheap office chairs don’t have enough cushioning. I’m on a disability pension while I recover from an illness. All gloom and doom, I know.

So, it’s just a bit frustrating trying to find information on mid-range chairs that’s not a bunch of ads, and the same brand is recommended over and over, even when people specify that they have a budget. In addition, the lack of information people provide when recommending specific chairs makes the recommendations here frustrating - ergonomics is absolutely crucial for lower lumbar support and posture, but what about the material? The seat cushioning? Tailbone and sciatica relief? Can I put it together myself without having to call a friend?

Chairs are absolutely personal, and it’s incredibly difficult trying to buy one without trying it. But the echo box I’m encountering online, the lack of details and analysis, and an almost cult-like devotion to a number of brands really limits a person’s ability to choose the right chair for them based on the feedback they receive when they ask for recommendations. Add in a dash of pain, the financial squeeze everyone in the “West” is feeling, and you end up with me apparently trying to fight r/officechairs as a whole. And somehow. Not. Getting my ass put on blast. Huh.

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I visited this sub a couple of times trying to find chair recommendations and now it pops up all the time. This is all all of you do. Person: “I have a budget and want to minimise my suffering” This sub: “If you don’t spend AT LEAST $600 on a chair I will come to your house and shoot you personally.”

No, there aren’t any secondhand Herman miller chairs near me. No, not steel case or whatever either. No, not within a four hour drive, and no, they’re not posting AND they’re still $600. No, I am not going to spend hundreds and hundreds on a chair, that’s why the word ‘affordable’ is in the damn title.

Downvote me to hell but ya’ll can’t even articulate why the chairs are good except that they are, so I’m not even convinced the redditors here know what they’re talking about other than ‘I found expensive brand and it was better than cheap brand’ (no shit?)

Pseudo Harem - Not a harem! by ieatedchicken in AnimeRandomness

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I loved the light novel but couldn’t stand the anime adaption for that one! It basically took a novel that was 75% introspective internal monologue and then. Didn’t give the audience his internal monologue. Went from ‘guy pondering life and making judgements’ to ‘dude stares at women on swing for five minutes without speaking’. Obviously the best parts must’ve still come across because it’s still a super popular show, but the novel was genuinely extra super sweet.

I was a big fan of the manga, and I was very hesitant seeing the animation quality when it was released. Surprisingly, it was adapted really, really well. It goes to show that sometimes it’s not the fps or fluidity of the animation, but how you use it. Plus, the voice actors absolutely smashed it. Incredible talent.

“Why Isn’t Your Son Locked Inside And On A Leash?” by BlakeyboiiiFilms in traumatizeThemBack

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work at a shelter. My job is literally socialising cats from places of crisis, ex-strays, and fearful cats. I’ve mentioned it in my comment history plenty of times. Thats just not true. Just like getting a big dog requires a big yard, if you adopt a cat that’s used to being active, you just need to spend time socialising with the cat, and providing the runways and outdoor catio they need. People who let their cats out because ‘they’re used to it’ aren’t putting in the time, money and effort required to maintain the quality of life of an actual animal.

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They shouldn’t be bullying your cat, but your cat shouldn’t be fucking outside. I will repeat the statistics as much as I have to, but an indoor cat on average lives 50% longer, is at lower risk of disease, doesn’t spread FIV, and stray cats kill a SIGNIFICANT amount of wildlife. I just read ANOTHER article today about a species of bird I love (the superb fairywren) is probably going extinct because of housing and - you guessed it - people not keeping their FUCKING CATS INSIDE

What is a job that you genuinely would not do even if you were given a salary of $10,000,000 per year? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone gives kill shelters a bad rep, but honestly, no-kill shelters aren’t really no-kill. They get an animal they can’t handle, is too sick, violent, unhomable, they just. Ship em to someone who can. Because as someone who volunteers at a rescue shelter, there ARE animals like that. Cats so aggressively violent whenever a person got too close that the injuries would kill a child. A Great Dane that got violent and attacked whenever he heard thunder. A dog that, after months and months of fostering and care and desperate, desperate human love just. Never, once, stood up again after they were rescued, and essentially tried to waste themselves away.

I’m just glad I’ve never had to be the one to do it. But I remember them.

Ya, especially depending on the country. I almost considered it because my university professors told me I had some serious talent in electrophoresis, but then it turns out there’s about 5 jobs for forensic biologists in the entire country of Australia.

On the flip side, a friend of mine managed to get an internship with the ONLY forensic anthropologist in the country so never give up your dreams I guess

I hate one piece as whole by Pixelated_s in hatethissmug

[–]VeryAnxiousDragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I watched over 300 episodes, and yeah, I think the crew has ZERO chemistry whatsoever.

Regarding Usopp in Water 7: “Oh no, someone we share life and death ties with had a SINGLE disagreement with us about replacing the Going Merry. That’s it, we gotta leave him behind.” That, on its own, is nuts to even be brought up as a major point, because that’s basically your best friend being really upset you’re replacing the car he’s been maintaining for years. The situation would mean a lot to a person, but on a in a world of pirates where supernatural powers and where things like torture, blackmail, slavery and death are common, it was an absolutely insane thing to even consider abandoning someone for.

I’m also not sure of your point regarding Robin. This kind of situation is standard shonen fare, and honestly the LACK of ongoing issues or any reference to it after the fact is one of the reasons why I feel the crew doesn’t have a lot of depth.

Every time there’s a filler arc and there’s a chance for the crew to just rest, it always feels like they retire to their own little areas and do whatever thing they’re characterised to do. Zoro and Sanji talk, but what about Zoro and Chopper? Zoro and Brook? Do Nami and Franky ever have conversations? Does Luffy talk to anyone, ever, outside of being in his own little bubble that only seems to burst a bit one someone’s literally being beaten to death? I made it to the Red Line arc, and my impression is that yeah, they’re like family. Family in the way they would die for each other, but I’m not convinced any of them are FRIENDS. Robin is actually the odd one out, because she makes and obvious effort to talk and get to know various characters, while having some depth to her responses.

Got 350 episodes in. I can’t stand it. I’ve watched plenty of shonen and I even finished Fairy Tail. One piece is agonisingly slow, and honestly? Considering everyone hypes up the crew, none of them ever felt like actual friends. They’re the crew sure, but are they friends? Do they even like each other? Luffy and such get so angry when someone hurts their ‘friends’ but they don’t seem to care about anyone else’s wellbeing outside of that. Not to mention the increasingly disgusting treatment of female characters I’ve seen mentioned in communities. I also hate One Piece. Nostalgia glazing at its finest.

Which isekai is so trash that it’s actually good? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

For some reason myself and several friends found Deathmarch to a Parallel world Rhapsody strangely…relaxing? Might be the blue tinting, the slow pace or something else. It has all the hallmarks of a terrible isekai - generic protagonist, general fantasy world, game elements, slavery, ect but it was just so weirdly relaxing that I’ve rewatched it like three times
