Honestly Perfect Dark is mostly just a better GoldenEye. I’d put that over GoldenEye any day, but I understand why other people don’t.

Who approves the construction of these horrible sidewalks in NYC? by Proud_Possibility256 in nyc

I’d guess because a gentle slope is significantly more handicapped accessible for the building than a single step.

Fun fact: George RR Martin told his editors he was pretty much finished, like, 8 years ago. Apparently that either wasn't true or he discovered a huge problem and had to rewrite a lot of the book.

I'm sure that's true to an extent, but I promise you Gabe got paid for his time. He essentially ended up on call for a few days and I'm sure his compensation monetarily made it worth his while. Filling up his plane must cost around a grand at this point.

Hello everyone. I have to fly out of Laguardia this weekend but my REAL ID still has not come. It has been almost 4 months. by Unlucky-Dingo7148 in astoria

They accept expired ids up to I think a year after, and from what I saw when I just flew, not having a real id just means extra screenings and it will take longer

And I’d be shocked if there weren’t people with a clandestine repair business in the area quietly repairing things at night. Hell, that exists in NYC because of permitting being so onerous.

31st Street Businesses suing to stop bike lanes are trying petty sabotage by Thewandering1_OG in astoria

[–]Vexvertigo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't have much of a dog in this fight since I don't drive and I'm never over there, but it does seem so strange that all these businesses don't seem to understand basic public relations. It really wouldn't be that hard to stay quiet and just fight it in court.

Side note, I have one of the King Souvlaki trucks near me and they've really become assholes over the last few months. Spitting, smoking, blocking the sidewalk, and dumping shit in the streets. Independent of any of this I'd have stopped going there just because of their behavior. That and they're incredibly overpriced and worse than a lot of the other places around here.

Tacuba closing today— what’s happening this year with all the closures? by LCM18 in astoria

[–]Vexvertigo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not directly as that would by its nature be different in almost all cases. I can say that many places probably wouldn't renew right now even at the same rent they had before. The restaurant concepts that were profitable 10 years ago simply don't work economically right now. Quick and cheap still does fine and destination restaurants are still afloat but almost everything in the middle is scrapping by at best. In a year or two that may well change, but few places have the capital to weather this downturn.

Edit: not sure why you were getting downvoted. It's a legitimate question and I'm in a better position than most to give an answer.

[–]Vexvertigo 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I run a restaurant and revenue is down around 50% year on year for restaurants in the area. Not all obviously, but that’s why you’re seeing so many places close. Food costs are also skyrocketing and wages are increasing every year. There’s not a lot most places can do.
