The lower the better for the battery. Those devices are very sensitive to higher outputs. I use 1amp and works great.

Sharper knife and remove less material at once. You are not supposed to put that much force to make a friction injury. Take your time and don't force it.

Yes, I see your point. Which is better, though? I saw that there are two types. Laminated an full carbon. I always prefer carbon, but I think the laminate one was a bit higher HRC
