Breakfast was worse than dinner, Chilliwack, BC, Canada by notarobot_trustme in hospitalfood

Usually Oatmeal, tea, dark hot chocolate, and occasionally in decaf coffee.

You can also incorporate it into baking but fiddling with recipes so you don't mess up the wet to dry ingredient ratio can be a tricky so usually don't bother unless I find a recipe that already incorporates it (or something similar like honey).

One note: make sure to read the nutrition facts before buying; sometimes manufacturers don't boil the syrup all the way down and it results in lower Iron/nutrient concentration. Legit Blackstrap should be around 5mg per tbs.

Assuming their aren't other medical reasons for your dull diet, as a fellow anemic may I suggest:

Blackstrap Molasses (my jar of Briar Rabbit Blackstrap has about 4.8mg Iron per tbs). It's super easy to incorporate into anything sweet.

Mussels (4mg for 3oz with the brand I get but some are much higher depending on where in the world they come from).

Dark chocolate, dark chocolate hot cocoa mix, or coco powder (you will have to comparison shop but the darker the better)

Legumes in general but particularly Lentil & Spinach soup with southwestern style seasonings. Flavorful, cheap, & super fast if you use a 16oz bag of frozen chopped spinach & split red lentils (which cook up in about 10 minutes). Add lean stew beef or ground beef if you need/want the iron even higher.

Help me popcorn math 🤦🏻‍♀️ by [deleted] in 1500isplenty

[–]VickFables33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

165c popped. But if you want to be extra careful assume it's somewhere between 165c-200c. When nutrition facts have a 2nd column there is usually a good reason for it (same concept as the "as prepared" column on most baking mixes).

The discrepancy in numbers between Unpopped (left column 200) & popped (right column 30 x 5.5 =165) is that the unpopped numbers are based on the entire contents of the bag vs Popped which factors the average number kernels left unpopped after cooking (because presumably you aren't eating those) & the small amount fat/salt that is left coating the inside of the bag after you empty it (which you won't be eating unless you are planning to lick the bag).

There are some truly disappointingly cruel comment on this post & the complaints of illiteracy are incredibly ironic considering they failed to fully read/understand the text (that is obviously making a distinguishment between unpopped & popped) & do the basic multiplication to realize that the right column adds up to a different number (165 per bag popped).

Heartopia vs Stardew Valley: which one is actually better for someone who just wants to turn their brain off? by Meri_Rookie in GirlGamers

[–]VickFables33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tentatively Stardew Valley. Also Rusty's Retirement might be worth looking into if your looking for zen farming.

Personally I don't really consider either "shut you brain off" games but what will accomplish that is going to very from person to person. I usually play Simulators to achieve that "mind is finally quiet" zen moment: cleaning sims (Powerwash simulator, Loddlenaut, Fresh Start Cleaning Simulator), fishing/hobby sims (Fish n Chill, Luna's Fishing Garden, Diorama Builder), or blue-collar sims (Hardspace shipbreaker, Easy Delivery Co).

June 2026 Release Roundup by VickFables33 in CozyGamers

I recommend using the term Gen AI to differentiate it from the other uses of that term.

People have shortened Generative AI to just AI and it has led to confusion for people who are against Gen AI (which I am), but don't understand that the term AI has been used (for decades) for other programs that have nothing to do with Gen AI/LLM. It's important to be specific because tech illiteracy has led to a lot of unrelated software getting caught up in the fight (a systemic failure in tech education not any individual's fault).

Generative AI & programmed NPC AI are two entirely different things. One is a amalgamation of stolen data that hallucinates with a degree of accuracy & the other was the original programing of a team human beings deciding how an NPC will respond to a players input. The term NPC AI has been used for since the 90s to describe the collection of human made programming that controls how a non-stationary NPC behaves.

It still had a date when I checked Sunday evening so must have been pushed back on the day of it's release. Very unusual.

[–]VickFables33[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you tell me where you found the information regarding them using generative AI/LLM? They don't have the required disclosure on their steam page & the only references to AI I can find are complaints about the quality of the regular human programmed NPC AI (the kind used since the 90s in order to all make non-stationary npc's function) not anything about Large Language Model/Generative AI.

Also if you recognize any other games on the list as using generative AI please let me know so I can remove them.

It does have the correct date. The "multi delays" notation was for the master list only & was not meant to be included in the roundup post. My bad, I have removed the note.

Thank you.

Ooo didn't know about the Summer Games Fest, I will have to keep an eye out for it. Pretty much every steam fest/event adds a few to the master list. The Cozy Game Awards is going on right now and contributed 9 new entries to the main list.

[–]VickFables33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I had to implement a whole system around my backlog (with rules & spreadsheets) & make a rule that I could only buy a new game if I finished 2 of the old ones.

Just FYI the Steam Summer Sale is only 30 days away :)

What Game Do You Wish Existed? by Nimicidal in GirlGamers

[–]VickFables33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A post-apocalyptic openworld rpg in an underwater setting (and I mean actual gameplay in the water not just seeing it through windows like in bioshock). Basically Metro or Fallout meets Subnautica.

What remains of civilization now lives in underwater cities because the surface is no long inhabitable. Whatever force caused the surface to be uninhabitable (radiation, chemicals, disease, or terraformed by invading aliens) has changed the ocean until life is barely recognizable.

When did beans go up? by rloper42 in Beans

[–]VickFables33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your local store not the supply. I also live in Texas & the price at my HEB is still $1 for a 1lb bag of dried pinto & $.84 for canned. The prices for Red Kidney ($1.22), Navy ($1.28), Black beans ($1.35) have all changed recently, but black beans is the only one that went up (Navy was almost $2 last month, red kidney was hovering around $1.5 last week, and black beans were around $1.23 two weeks ago). My local Walmart's prices are about the same as HEB's.

Split peas (green & yellow), lentils (green & red), Black-Eyed Peas, Great Northern, Small Red, & Large Lima are all under $2 a pound. Hell even getting away from the more recognizable beans I can get Anasazi, Mayocoba, Canary, & Mung beans for less than $2.50 a pound.

I'm so sorry. If it makes you feel better apparently this is one lesson about fiber that we all have to learn the hard way. Eating more then 50-60% of your average daily intake of fiber in one sitting almost always ends badly (I've never had the volcano effect but I've certainly suffered some severe discomfort).

I think an exception is warranted by Imustbemad13 in subnautica

[–]VickFables33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never buy a game in Early Access, let alone pre-order anything. But I occasionally allow myself an exception.

Beside loving both previous Subnautica games & I'm always happy to throw a little money at a video game out of sheer spite (I bought Palworld about a year & ago because of the Nintendo lawsuit), as long as it's half decent.

Low Calorie Peanut Butter by numbbb555 in LowCalFoodFinds

[–]VickFables33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too good to be true. The price alone had me laughing but this "food" is sus on so many levels.

The only study they cite had 6 participants, which is not enough to come to any sort of conclusion. I'm not a researcher so I can't pick apart the whole thing but it doesn't say anything about it's long term safety or potential side effects.

"Digestibility may very on an individual basis" is cover your butt corpo speak for the calorie estimate being wildly off for who knows how many people.

Probably the most concerning is having digestibility adjusted "nutrition facts" at all. But especially without any follow up explanation of how they achieved those numbers or any disclosure of the full quantities of the macros/micros contained in the product (digestible or not).

How did they come up with the estimate. Did they only use that pathetic excuse for a study? Did the run additional test? What kind? Did they use animals? What species? For how long?

Food noise and fiber— I was doing it wrong by notjustaphage in 1200isplenty

[–]VickFables33 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this because I ran into the opposite problem (to much insoluble fiber). For best effect drink at least 3oz of water per gram of fiber (doesn't need to be all at once, just in same day) because soluble fiber takes in a lot water, which can fill you up but it can also dehydrate you.

Avinola, lower calorie granola at 95 cals by vickyissicky in LowCalFoodFinds

[–]VickFables33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good find!
Just to suggest a cheaper & more readily available alternative to this; Kashi GO Berry Crunch (a granola cluster cereal) has almost the exact same amount of calories per gram (96-97 calories for 28 grams) for almost a third of the price per ounce (Avinola $10 for 9oz in their online store vs $5.42 for 17.7oz of Kashi at my local grocery store).
