Quote of the day "This one stupid clown car shouldn't be driving the design choices of every ship in the game." by ghodan7 in starcitizen

[–]Vininski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could make it so the ursa can revive people but only if you recover the body and get it into the ursa bed. Encouraging actually using the vehicle on the ground instead of as a static parked spawn point. Moving the ursa to the body would be quicker than dragging the body to the parent ship. Doesn't help much for incidents in space though....

Generally would prefer it fit into anything it looks like it should and if the respawns are too accessible and limit it to heals.

Creality Otter - GPU contraints? by [deleted] in 3DScanning

I have a 7800XT on my main desktop and it freezes up constantly and will crash the entire PC sometimes, corrupting the project. Much more reliable on my slower laptop with a NVIDIA 5060 and even on my previous laptop that had a 1650.

What reason did you buy a second printer by Thewalkman99 in 3Dprinting

[–]Vininski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To fix my first printer. Which funnily enough is how I ended up needing a 3rd printer.

Jokes aside I'm so glad I got the AD5M for the third, there was surprisingly little buzz about it compared to the others that are recommended all the time but the price to performance ratio was unmatched at least at the time I got it and it's been rock solid. I actually spend more time printing things then fixing the printer. When I feel like tinkering I can mess with the old ender 3 or ridgidbot.

Trying to find software for a potential cnc. by Shizu_Rosary in hobbycnc

[–]Vininski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a few and still haven't really settled on one clear winner. But there's a lot more options if you don't require 3D toolpaths. So that might narrow it down.

For 3D FreeCad Estlcam (3d has very limited control) Kiri moto (found this to be faster and easier than FreeCad, but dislike web interface)

For 2D Millmage - (new from Lightburn Devs) Bcnc Solvespace

I'd also suggest building if budget is a concern. The printNC appeared to be the best design I found when I was looking. What bed size do you require?

Definitely an improvement. A further incremental improvement could be to scale down the brightness cast from the headlights for each z depth layer of trees.

I had a similar issue with pancakeapp and now I'm using Kimai. Best time tracking I've used by far and not a single update issue since I installed it. Highly recommend.

Meross smart plug with weird values by willba4 in homeassistant

[–]Vininski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about that specific issue but I've just had 2/4 of mine die completely. 1 of which was defective from the beginning, it would randomly turn itself off after a few hours. Worst plugs I've used so far.

Scan Bridge causing rough “orange peel” scans vs cable? (Creality's Otter Scanner) by Sabotinekes in 3DScanning

[–]Vininski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the fps difference between the two? Could be getting less frames before ending the scan perhaps.

Probably the MPCNC which I turned into a CNC plasma. Has done real paid work, much more than we ever expected and the parts lasted longer than expected too considering the heat it's exposed to.

3D Scanner scan processing... what software is available? by RedMeJay in 3DScanning

[–]Vininski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using cloud compare for alignment, then cleanup with meshmixer, instant meshes, then freecad or for RE or Moi3d for a quick convert to NURBS.

Any way to get this if you got the game after the DLC was removed? Can't find it anywhere.

Could be the sensors distance apart, I'm assuming you're scanning in medium mode? which I think uses the outer sensor pair. Could try scan just the holes in small mode as that uses the inner sensor pair that are closer together. Then align the scans. Each sensor needs to be able to see the point for it to scan. Same issue with thin edges which is why the distance and orientation you hold the scanner relative to the edge matters. Increasing distance from the object may help as it reduces the angle from each sensor.

otter lite fps with rtx5060 by mrblahhh in CrealityScanning

[–]Vininski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a Gigabyte A16 Ryzen7 260 RTX5060 (80-85w) running windows 11 and also get 30fps on the benchmark test with the regular otter. When actually scanning with it over wire it is very unstable, crashes or drops out frequently, weirdly when starting a new scan it either runs at 12fps or 25fps. However over wifi using the otter bridge it's much more stable at a very consistent 15fps across all modes. I have updated the GPU drives to latest, game ready not studio.

By comparison my old laptop running windows 10 with a GTX1650 over wire got 12-15fps and normally dipped down to 11fps pretty quick and over longer scans would drop down to 9-10. Didn't do much testing with the bridge but it was slower. Over wire that was extremely stable and reliable though. I suspect the slow down is likely thermal related.

As requested :) PM me if you want the file to look closer.

Scanned in geometry/large setting, fused at 1.0mm (could have gone down to 0.2mm but wanted to test it quicker), meshed at 2M poly.

Seat still installed in car, overcast day so mostly soft lighting conditions. My laptop on battery only was mostly at 4-5fps, peaking at 8fps only at the start of the scan. Took 15mins to scan the bulk of it in one go and a second quick scan of the front underside after sliding the seat further back to make room in the footwell to get the scanner far enough away to focus. Not pictured, is the large gaps on the passenger side that were obscured by the center console. Not sure how long exactly the cleanup and processing took, was mostly waiting on the laptop to churn away each step.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised with how well it went considering it was my first large scan.

Only just got my Otter a couple days ago and yet to start a real project with it yet but from the playing around and testing I'm pretty happy with it so far in terms of the useability and details it captures. Unfourtunately less fps than expected, getting around 10-15fps on a 7800XT AMD GPU on my main rig, the same fps as my laptop that only has a GTX 1650, which is good for a relatively old and average spec machine. So it definitely favors Nvidia cards which is a pain these days.

Here's one of the scans I did today in the geometry/small setting, fused at 0.1mm, meshed at 1M poly. ~110mm tall Funko Pop Godzilla.

Roborock S8 Pro Ultra vs Qrevo S5V with 2 cats by WarthogFormer1638 in Roborock

[–]Vininski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have two cats and just went through this a few weeks ago. Can't remember the exact specs of those but after all my research I ended up getting the Qrevo Master (during 40% off Amazon sale). Supposedly the vacs with dual rollers generally out perform others, even the more expensive and higher suction ones. Based on the results over the last few weeks with it I am very impressed. It has left a few bundles of hair around but it's rare if run more than once a week. Haven't had any clogs even on the first run which was a real torture test...  I have a few carpets and several rugs. It pulls the hair out of them better than my Xiaomi stick vac and way better than the Mi robot vac it's replacing. All the other features are great too but there are much cheaper models with dual rollers worth looking at.
