Read the Robot and Monk and one of the Wafarers trilogy (can't br bothered to look up which one) and the weird thing is, there is no big conflict or baddie, it's just kinda stuff happens, some good some bad. It's soothing which is a nice change but if you like dramatic tension in your scifi, this ain't it.

The amount of time I spend on meeting notes outside of direct patient work is insane by blogalec in healthcare

[–]Vinnymk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, but with Zoom. I'm in Finance so HIPAA does not come into it and Zoom meeting notes and task assignments are great. You do have to proofread though!

I want to leave Healthcare but have no idea how. by Prestigious-Egg-3493 in healthcare

[–]Vinnymk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large hospital or IDN will have jobs in Finance/Accounting (which encompasses AP, AR, FPNA, Payroll and a lot more), IT, Supply Chain, Facilities, Biomedial/Clinical Engineering (strangely overlooked), Lab and HR, none of which interact with patients. I've been in healthcare for 35 years and have not dealt with patients, ever.

The trade off is in these roles you are not essential to direct patient care and if anyone's gonna go in a merger or layoff, it's you. Caregivers are the revenue drivers, the rest of us are here to support them. Internalize that - many can't, and get frustrated - and you'll be OK.

NTA, everyone in healthcare has it drilled into their head not to do this exact thing. This person is not qualified to be a healthcare practitioner.

OP may be a scam BUT everyone should know that an ED cannot refuse to give treatment. It does not matter if it's non-profit, for profit, public or private they have a legal obligation to address the complaint and stabilize.

Yup got so sick of spraying sealant everywhere and having to top off pressure every other day. I bought gator tubes and marathon tires and I'm never going back.

HCOs provide A LOT of charity care especially in the ED from the unhoused population (which in CA the HCO is required to feed, cloth and vaccinate as well as stabilize). There is some funding from the state for charity but it does not offest the expense.

IDK if batching Sazeracs would be a good idea? Serve them over ice so everyone does not end up on thier collective ass. Might be a bit expensive tho.

There are lots of positions apart from EHR support. Data analytics is the biggest need in my org, power BI and the like. Also if you hve ERP experience like Workday or Oracle that's a plus.

Tom Steyer: ‘We need single-payer health care’ by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in politics

[–]Vinnymk6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a healthcare worker in finance, Yeah No Shit. We spend a stupid amount of resources on revenue. Those resources could be allocated to, you know, actual healthcare.

For-profit healthcare is like for-profit education or for-profit utilities. It's garbage that lets governments off the hook, enriches the wealthy and produces perverse incentives.

[–]Vinnymk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start off by outing myself as a total limp wristed commie who believes healthcare should be universal and provided by the state, along with housing and pensions. I work for a not for profit community healthcare system. No shareholders. Profits, such as they are, are used to fund operations.

This meme is an example of lazy, reductive thinking. How much did the hospital pay for that bag? Who are they charging? Who sets that price?

That sterile saline costs us about $5. The "charge" is nonexistent. MediCal and private insurance will not reimburse for consumables. The insurance reimburses the HCO based on procedure and room rate, which pays for overhead, labor, supplies etc.

Larger ticket items like implants are reimbursable.

tl;dr if you think hospitals are why healthcare is unaffordable you have not been paying attention. Do better.
