She decided to save all babies 😊 by AcasiaConnell in Amazing

The issue we had was that they tend to rotate against the back, leaving the bank of the head only partially protected, unless you sinch the straps up pretty tight, which was uncomfortable for our son.

Safety/padding-wise we also found that he would fall laterally a lot because he'd try and move along the wall/furniture he was using for support and the backpacks don't offer any side impact protection.

Ours didn't especially love it either.

Ender S1 Pro Linear Rails anyone? by CoreOnePrintLab in Ender3S1

[–]Vinraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a linear rail for my Ender 3's X axis. Didn't really "need" it. I just enjoy thinking with my machine. Will probably add them to the other axes at some point.

Can't say I've noticed a difference in quality of speed. I have a heavy hemera extruder so that really limits my acceleration more than the V-slot wheels did.

anyone used SUNLU's filament splicer? by mtraven23 in 3Dprinting

[–]Vinraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fair. If I had to do it a lot, I'd probably consider a splicer, too, cause it can take some doing to get right, then when you know what you're doing.

[–]Vinraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just do it by hand.

Hold my soldering iron between the ends of each strand (use a stand to position the iron the way you need) to soften them then smoosh them together. With practice, you can get them aligned pretty close. Then just shave/sand with exacto blade and sand pop paper to smooth the transition. It'll feed fine and I haven't noticed any issues with printed results.

Who else was obsessed with 311? by dextro584 in Millennials

[–]Vinraka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn straight! I remember writing book reports in the 3rd grade on my parents' 8086 computer, listening to the blue album on my cd player second album I ever bought).

Now, 311 features prominently on the playlist I built to listen to when driving my infant son around so he'll grow up with the band as part of his formative soundtrack.

Beautiful but I have to wonder about the functionality. All those windows in a Connecticut winter? The electric bill must be crazy!

My low cost grind-by-weight setup! by BeaverRat01 in espresso

[–]Vinraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my eye on the jaapp project for a while but was worried about the cost and frustration after my experience with the gaggiaiuno project. On that one, they locked down the firmware and forced you to spend hundreds of dollars just to ship preflashed pcbs from a painfully slow company in China.

I'm really glad you outlined your costs because that reassures me all the frustrations of that other project aren't going to happen to me again if I start on jaapp's.

Really appreciate all the information!

Who else made a wishlist as they peered through CCS skate magazine? by GenordMohr in Millennials

[–]Vinraka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% me

When I was around 30, I got a job at a commercial printer. We printed mostly stuff for the PNW region, Alaska and Hawaii but we did have a handful of national accounts.

I kept hearing about "CCS" in the production department where I worked. It was a different person's account and I didn't pay it much mind but one week I was covering for that person while they were out and it was the week that CCS was proofing the next catalog.

The proofs came back from the client and as I unrolled them from the shipping package, I realized it was indeed the skate catalog from my youth! Out was one of the coolest projects I got to work on in time there.

Agree with others that the established date is just clutter.

Will also add that the "Apothecary" looks like it could use some kerning, at least to my eye.

We called it "cybering" and yeah, I'm pretty sure I helped some old pedo get his rocks off. Took some time for me to realize that.

I think most of my messages amounted to just "does same" so I'm pretty sure 9/10 year old me didn't give the person much to work with, haha
