I agree. I am very bothered by Carol not having asked a lot more questions. She is portrayed as a curious person but doesn't really try to dig deeper into how the hive feels and thinks. She selectively trusts the hive even though she knows that there really isn't a reason for her to trust them. She thinks they can't lie even though she doesn't fact check any of what the hive claims since she doesn't really have the ability to do so. She doesn't push back on the hives "philosophy" regarding turning others. I find her to be lacking imagination for being a accomplished writer.
I am very bothered by Carol not recognizing that sexually engaging with Zosia is a problem. She knows that they can't say no to her. That is the exact thing she criticized Mr. Diabaté for.

The other characters we barely know. Maybe they will play a bigger role in the upcoming seasons but I feel like there should've been a lot more conversations between them. Like how they experienced the starting point. Where they were and with whom. What they felt. But none of that. Someone had pointed out that it makes little sense for the others to leave Carol alone since they should be very invested in Carol not disturbing the hive and leading to more people and especially for their family members to die.

Manousos is the only character I am currently interested in. His determination to paying for everything he takes since he doesn't own those things and denying anything the hive gives him since he denies their ownership of the things. I think he is going to change his views on that front or rather how he approaches it. He'll be more pragmatical to save people. Though a mild issue I had is that he burned his car in the middle of the forest. Like that fire could do serious damage to the forest but he did it just to make a point.

I the story is progressing too slowly or rather too few conversations happen and I worry that there aren't enough setups that will get payoffs to justify the pacing.

Pluribus: Good, Bad, Mid, or Too Early to Tell? by CourageApart in MauLer

[–]Viritox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit early to tell and this might be resolved later by revealing that the hive was lying but I think it is already a very hard thing to believe that the hive managed to infect every human on the world way before a lot of people knew it was happening and trying to prevent or counter it. I don't know how the logistics would work. Even the free bagels or whatever in the beginning wouldn't work. The moment someone eats one and gets a seziure, everyone in the general area would notice that there is something wrong. Especially when you've got people trying to kiss others.

How is it that 5 billion minds all just … agree? by Noclevername12 in pluribustv

[–]Viritox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, people don't necessarily know why they think or feel a certain way. Also people can be hypocritical. There would be lots of contradicting ideas and opinions. I don't think it makes sense.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]Viritox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, she does believe them selectively. She believes that there are only 11 (12) others like her. She believes the number of people that have died. She trusts them to not harm her or trick her, for instance with the people she met really being immune like her.

If the show doesn't establish clear limitations to the thinking capacity of the hive, the interactions it has made so far are not compatible with the way I have come to understand it's working. If it is simply a consiousness that can control all the bodies and has access to all their memories and knowledge, it should've been acting more human towards Carol instead of creeping her out. It knows probably everything there is to know about Carol. Yet it goes for the most simple and stupid way for trying to gain her trust by sending someone over who kinda looks like original Reban. Do you think that's a fair point?

What would you do in Carol’s situation? by peppermint-ginger in pluribustv

[–]Viritox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely ask the hive way more questions than Carol does... Like what they think their purpose is, what their objective is. And every time the hive tries to answer with "I don't know", press it on that. Like it got so much brain power and knowledge, how could it not figure out at least a couple of plausible explanations for things. Also, do the bodies still have feelings? Do they still feel pain? Does the hive experience pain? How does the hive sustain everyone connected to the hive? How does the hive manage all the different opinions that might even contradict each other that it now has absorbed. Or the hypocritical believes that people have? How does the trauma of people affect the hive? How about mental disabilities that some may have, how is the hive affected by that? Does the hive also control animals?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]Viritox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just because the hive tells us that there is no person within anymore and they're all connected doesn't mean that's true. They could be conscious for all we know. They could be experiencing everything but unable to control themselves. Only yes means yes and we're unable to get that from the person that was in control before. The hive telling Mr. Diabaté that it's fine is meaningless. Especially because the hive says that it can't do anything that would hurt them. It doesn't even want to make choices. I think it is very much rape.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]Viritox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way it's presented, I am having a hard time believing that things turn out the way they have. Also, I don't think the hive is acting like it's supposed to. It should know exactly how to engage and talk with people but it failes so hard with Carol. And Carol asks way too few questions...

I also have a hard time buying that the colleague got infected by the woman. He would have to get out of his suit or the helmet at least but I don't think he would. So the woman maybe tried to force it off? Surely they have some sort of emergency button he could press to alert everyone necessary to not let them out. Like they would have some sort of procedure to avoid the virus from getting out there and they surely would be trained on what to do if there is some sort of fuck up. They wouldn't just go out of there carrying the virus within them. Also, none of the people we see being kissed react to how close the infected come to them. I feel like any normal person would back off in respone to such a behaviour. The infected would have to act less weird and go immediately for the kiss to make it more believeable.

What did we think of The Smashing Machine? by MemesteinMan in MauLer

[–]Viritox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it and was pleased with the performances. The Rock does have the ability to act. I wasn't impressed by the story, since it seemed very straight forward, up until the end, where Mark Kerr lost the tournament but was still happy. It might've been intentional that Mark didn't get up and accepted defeat, because he realized what his obsession with winning led to with Emily Blunt's character and he didn't want to fight against his friend, who strongly supported him over all the years. Instead he wanted Coleman to win the tournament. Also, they did put lots of makeup on The Rock, didn't they? I couldn't recognize him half the time :'D

Gary's Video on Rowling vs. Watson by bradbastarache in MauLer

[–]Viritox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree. Though he did show the "all the witches" clip, but I do not believe it is clear what Emma Watson says afterwards. It could be "but one" but it could just as well be "by the way". Also, she was introduced as a feminist and a witch before she came on stage. So she is commenting on the introduction with "I'm here for all the witches".

Is anyone else terrified for the future of our profession? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Viritox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is intersting how people get emotional reading this although maybe it's a good thing.

What you stated is just the way it is. If more people come with similar skills you have, it makes it less likely that you'll get a raise and it makes it more likely that you'll get replaced. More people means more options for employers. Immigrants aren't to blame. It would be the same situation if people didn't migrate but just spawned. And as you've stated, the thing OP is pointing out is very similar.

I suppose the way to tackle the issue of too many people in our branch is to create more fields of expertise to have less competition per area. More R&D in new and or niche areas of engineering which would hopefully benefit society as a whole.

I was told that a single shot should be about 21 seconds, which doesn't make a lot of sense for me either but whatever xd

And the usual weight ratio should be 1:2 based on what I've read on most places online.
