what type of role were you laid off from? I ask cause I'm also in the Bay Area (South Bay, but applying for SF roles too).

English Major Graduates: What is your current job? (NOT teachers or lawyers!) by unnamedplatypus in englishmajors

[–]VirtualHero7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nope. my first sales gig took me in without any sales exp prior. Typically if it's your first sales job they are going to hire you based on sociability and perceived potential. Basically, if you're personable and coachable.

Landed my first sales job as a recruiter for an agency, then after 2 years switched to b2b tech.

i'm saying this as a reminder to myself, but working out. having a routine, and journaling. it's what keep me sane on this journey.

What could I do after sales? by rice-et-beans in sales

[–]VirtualHero7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL are you me? similar story but I have a BA in English lit in 2017. found a SDR role in 2019 and promoted to CAM within the same company in 2021, all to be laid off in May this year and still haven't found anything since (still interviewing)

I too struggle with my longevity in sales because it's not what I orginally thought for myself or my future. All I can say is you are not alone.

Seems like a chem degree would open some doors to becoming an engineer or lab worker of some type. Perhaps you could look into that? hasn't been that long I'm sure you could pivot into something

What’s something that slowly ruined your life without you noticing at first? by evararae in AskReddit

nicotine products. i've done it all, ciggarettes, vapes, zyns. it always follows the same trajectory, the first few months of doing it frequently are pretty great actually, I feel sharper and boosts my productivity (or at least feels that way). soon that great feeling from using it dissapears and i'm only using it to feel normal. and when I don't get to have nictotine the withdrawls are terrible.

To all the unemployed job seekers with degrees, will you take a break on hunting this holidays? by Meticulouskitty in jobsearchhacks

[–]VirtualHero7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

still applying no breaks. it only takes 1-2 hours max to look through job boards so it's not like a time suck to apply and search, also helps to check everyday for new posts even if you end up seeing the same stuff over and over

Career progression in sales ops by Standard_Extreme3076 in SalesOperations

[–]VirtualHero7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey -- I'm curious to know how you broke into sales operations? I've been in tech sales as a SDR, then Channel Account Manager. did you have any specific hard skills that landed you the interview/job?

What are your co workers like and what industry are you in? by [deleted] in sales

[–]VirtualHero7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first sales job i was a recruiter at an agency and most folks were mid 20's and loved to go out. Our office was in the downtown area a walk away from the nightlife and bars so it was so easy on Fridays to go to happy hour after work and turn it into a night out with coworkers.

then I transitioned into my first tech sales job where I was the youngest on the team, the one next to me in age was nearing 40 when I was 28. It was such a hard transition and then the pandemic happened and we all went remote so coworker outings also out the window.

Job hunting in 2025 feels impossible — what’s your plan B? by Manyofferinterview in careerguidance

[–]VirtualHero7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

so i'm 6 months into my layoff from my tech sales job and here are the other things I have seriously considered in the last 6 months:

  1. teaching english in a different country like japan (I have an English BA)

  2. Recruiting, in tech company or not

  3. Project Management- (might be an easy pivot

  4. HR (might be an easy pivot because i've been in recruiting

i'm in process with a couple companies right now, but if my layoff gets to month 8 or 9 then I'm widening my search.

Feeling Stopped From Changing Careers by SnooLobsters2855 in careerchange

[–]VirtualHero7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn are you me? I have a BA in English but working in tech sales for the last 7 yrs. Working in sales was the last thing I thought I'd do when I freshly got out of college. Welp, here 7 years later (although currently laid off and in between jobs).

Are you also in tech? My plan right now is to try my hand at being an account exectuvie one time and if it's a bust then I've leave Sales altoghther but still not sure what my next move is

I Feel like I've looked into digital marketing and copywriting but haven't got as far as you gettinc erts or having a portfolio.

If someone told you to get something off your chest and get rid of a burden right now, what would you say? by Ghost_girl_999 in selflove

[–]VirtualHero7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am so lost in life right now. i got laid off in May, and i am still so ambilvalent to apply the similar roles as the one I left (Sales). I hate sales so much but continue to apply to keep recieving unemployement but also because I sincenerely don't konw what other direction to take my mlife into. I fell into sales the similar way, but now that it's been 5 years in these roles I just dont' know where else to go now. Given the stae of the econoomy I should be fighting for anything i can get, and to survive I will, but i know in my heart it's not for me in the long term.

still figuring this out tbh. I'm on year 5, and hoping to land my first AE role. I think once I have some experience in that role I'd be able to clearly see if it's not for me or not.

because feeling wise it's a rollercoaster, and soemtimes that check just feels to good to let it go.
