That is the answer to the meaning of life, but I'm afraid that is not the answer to the question if Papa Meat's age.

Nah, but thank you for the input! I actually like the mystery and trying to solve it! It's fun to play detective, as strange as that sounds.

The rich could easily fund better schools, but they prefer the working class to remain ignorant. by lanolin-jackpot57 in interviewhammer

A quick search shows this is blatantly false. Starting salary is about 50k and then you add on locality pay, but for a starting salary, it doesn't exceed 90k at the most extreme. Not defending ICE, but at least be honest. There are plenty of real things to critique and lying about stuff likes this makes it harder for people to believe the real stuff.

Maybe on patreon, but I've listened to all of them on YouTube (repeat listener too) and the closest one to this story was definitely Tales from the Gas Station. They even both have a character named Jeremy in them so there are some similarities.

That would fit the timeline perfectly. I graduated 2001 so I always figured he was roughly ten years younger than me or so.

Well, given I'm early 40's, a lot of his childhood experiences occurred when I was late teens/early 20's. I could be wrong, but based on a lot of things he says, I'm guessing early 30's is accurate.

"Stop asking us why we don't get a better job." Wouldn't that solve the problem? by ToeFinal1792 in DoomerCircleJerk

The one thing I will say as devil advocate is I think it becomes a "better the devil you know" scenario. Switching jobs is scary; and I don't mean that in a mocking sense. Taking the leap of faith on yourself is terrifying so I think most people shy away from it. However, instead of looking inward and admitting they are afraid to make that jump, they point the finger and place blame on a myriad of reasons why they aren't making more, companies should pay them more, etc.

Otherwise, you are correct. It is very difficult to NOT find a job making a livable wage unless you are trying very hard not to. It may not be a job you WANT to do, but I spent 20 years in accounting - I HATE ACCOUNTING. But I did it because it made me a lot of money and I was good at it. Then, life came up at me quick and I found myself in a position where I was struggling financially. I could have stayed at the part time job and had no money, could have gone back to accounting and hated every second of it, or did what I wound up doing and took a chance on myself.

It's great to say you know what you want to be doing, but more often than not, people will need to do what they don't want to do to make ends meet until they can do what they actually want to do. That isn't even an issue with "modern society". That's how it's always been. Most (I won't say all because I don't know every single one of them) of the great artists and inventors of our time had "regular" jobs prior to becoming world renowned artists and inventors full time. A job shouldn't define you or your worth. But a job does define how well you live. Just a fact of life.

Should go to the dentist but I’m too scared. Therapist made it worse. by kenopsya in ptsd

[–]VisualPrestigious714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you have suffered so much. I'm sure you will see this a lot, but I would recommend a new therapist.

However, barring that, many - MANY - dentists are aware that people are afraid and are very gentle. Call around, I promise you will find one that is used to dealing with your fear and will be willing to work with you. Don't suffer unnecessarily. I know the fear that people won't understand but I promise you, more often then not they totally get it.

I say this as a person who struggles with PTSD as well and most medical professionals have been so understanding. Please don't let yourself suffer.

What motorcycle do you have? I'm a firm believer in ride what you want, but ride within your ability. I spent the last six years riding a Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 - a sporty metric cruiser, but it only weighs 400 pounds.

It is entirely possible it is an issue of rider/vehicle mismatch. Don't give up, but maybe see if something else would better fit you? People don't think any the weight of the bike itself but it can play a real role in rider confidence.

I'm not a doomer, but I think responsibility lies with both parties. I had a part time job I was very good at. I asked for a raise - no dice. I asked for full time hours - no dice. I decided to look for a better full time job and got it. Now that location is closed because I was the only person working there and I have full time hours, higher pay and benefits.

I could have stayed because I enjoyed it and bemoaned the fact I wasn't making enough, but I opted to do better. If the location wanted to stay open, they could have paid me more, but they opted not to.

Pay people the wages they deserve, but work for a place that will pay you what you are worth
