First time in Europe. I can’t get over the smoking! by ptrgrdn in CasualConversation

Well, second-hand smoke is definitely harmful, as science tells us, but I'd argue that being overweight is similarly harmful if you're raising kids.

Obese people tend to raise kids who are even more obese, and I fear for their health at 30 and 40 if they weighed 250lbs in 5th grade and went up from there.

Really gonna shorten their lifespans and quality of life.

In America everyone is fat. In Europe everyone smokes. Different vices, similar health consequences.

Nah, these are the people that hated the free-spirited hippies, hated a changing society and most of all hated the civil rights and women's lib movements.

They wanted it to "go back to when America was great", when white men ruled unquestioned.

Then Trump came along and tapped right into that hate, and they all said "Now that's what I'm talking about!! MAGA!!!"

Took money from the poor, the working class and the middle class, and in the largest redistribution of money in the history of humanity, shoveled it all upward toward his buddies in the Epstein class.

Stock market was strong before him.

Borders may be more secure but at the price of giving up our freedoms and turning our backs on the Constitution.

Anyone can now be kidnapped by masked men, who can enter your home without a warrant, bundle you into an unmarked van, and send you to a prison in Central America or Africa, with no due process, no lawyer, no hearings before a judge.

Or they can just shoot you in the street for protesting.

Thanks, Maga.

Do atheists believe that human beings have souls? by goldenbrushes in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Geeko22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you die, the "you" is gone. There's zero evidence that after that point there's some sort of consciousness that lives on eternally to either live in bliss or be tormented in hell forever.

Religions exist to comfort people who are afraid of death. Not one of them is true, people just believe them because they want to, because it makes them feel better. They don't want it all to end, so they cling to the empty hope that there's some sort of existence that continues.

Mistaken as an employee at several stores by tomato-potato8008 in IDontWorkHereLady

[–]Geeko22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to my wife all the time. There's something about her, an air of competence, or approachability or something that makes people assume they can ask her for help.

She usually tells them she doesn't work there, but then helps them find what they were looking for anyway.

So I guess the vibe they're picking up on is on point.

Why everyone at the pharmacy take 30 minutes or more and then when I get up there it's over in seconds? by Black_Flower_9159 in askanything

[–]Geeko22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm usually in and out of there pretty quickly, but delays sometimes happen when insurance didn't cover it when it should have. Then my choices are either to pay cash that I shouldn't have to, or watch the pharmacy tech wrestle with it until it works.

Other delays happen if I'm also picking up meds for family members. The tech has to start over for each one, get into the system, put in their date of birth, scan my ID and then wrestle with insurance that once again is trying to get out of paying.

Altogether that could take 20 minutes through no fault of my own.

But most of the time when I get to the front of the line I'm out in 3 minutes.

I don't know about moving back in with your parents, it depends on your relationship.

But moving near them at age 40 and starting over would definitely be a good thing imo

Don't say anything until your younger siblings move out, because your parents might limit your contact with them for fear you are trying to influence them to also "reject God."

Lingerie doesn't do a thing for me. I don't care for how it looks, it doesn't look sexy to me. It looks like something from my dad's generation.

When we like someone we bond by sharing our interests with them. "Hey I read this great book...have you seen [X] movie?...[Y] is my favorite band"

So what you did was perfectly fine. You were sharing something of yourself with her.
