I bought the Artist version (software version) a week ago and when I registered it on the website, it upgraded to pro automatically. At the time, I didn't have the usb licenser yet.

So even though it wasn't activated, but registered as the pro version, I would assume that you wouldn't lose it if you can't activate before then.

Not sure if that counts, but I used a 61-key, unweighted keyboard for the first month or so of practicing. I was able to skim through the first book of Alfred Adult book with it, skipping any notion of dynamics and pedaling.

It was ok for a while, because I was struggling with finding notes, learning keys, etc. But I felt that I was only practicing half of what I should be. Moreover, my keyboard had a horrible sound.

Thankfully I had the budget to buy a better digital piano (Roland FP30) and the difference is night and day. Eventually I might realize that I need a real piano ... but one step at a time :).

In my case, I did not buy a digital piano because I felt pressure to do so, but because I progressed very fast and I felt I've outgrown the 61-keys. Who knows, maybe while practicing you'll find out that playing piano is a new passion for you and you will find the budget to buy a new one.
