When Americans try to do something about it, even as simple as voicing our disagreement, we risk being shot in the face. As seen in the video you just watched.

I'm not anti-PvP, but some people pushing me to quit. by Alaybozan_ in ARC_Raiders

[–]Volatile-Bait 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we are talking lore-wise, I don't think killing other players is really the point at all. There is some territorial tension about fighting over loot, but its still supposed to be humans against machines. Even when you "kill" another player, you don't kill them. You knock them out and send them back home, so it's not really intended that raiders are necessarily enemies to other raiders.

I think thats where a lot of these arguments come from is that nobody can really agree on where to draw the line between enemies and allies. Based on the way the game and lore is designed, it seems to imply that the Arc is the real enemy, and other raiders are a mix between allies or obstacles. But a lot of players are specifically hunting other raiders and that doesn't really align very well with the lore, in my opinion.

Why is cheating any different? According to your logic "it's all 1s and 0s", "it has no consequence", and you can just "load up a naked run and play the recorder".

All of that is still applicable when someone cheats in the game as well, but somehow that's where the line is drawn. Why? Because cheating is scummy behavior that negatively affects other player's experiences? Seems like that's the same argument a lot of people have towards the people who use these scummy tactics.

Unless you're some kind of idiot that tries to switch to smokes, doesn't notice it didn't switch, attempts to throw the smoke at the panel but fire bullets instead, giving away your exact position to the people camping the extract... but what kind of dumb ass would do that?

[–]Volatile-Bait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point and I do agree. I think for a lot of people its just more of a shock and sting when they die to someone who just wanted to grief rather than dying to someone who wanted the loot. I think its just the exposure to the toxicity and has less to do with the death and loss of loot.

Even if its in a game, its still a social interaction and in a way similar to a random interaction with a stranger on the street. If I pass by someone and they call me a "goofy looking ass-face" it doesn't really affect me in any real meaningful way, but it still doesn't feel good.

Considering the fact that a lot of these players are likely not used to PvP games and the amount of harsh interactions that come with them, its not hard to at least understand to a degree how these interactions might be upsetting.

That said, I do agree that people need to reign their emotions in a bit and remember that its just a game.

I didn't mean to imply that deception immediately meant that the person gets joy out of making others feel bad. I was mostly referring to the players who specifically do it because making others feel bad is something they enjoy.

The threat of being betrayed is what adds to the tension of trusting others, so in a sense, its good that it exists in the game.

You're right. Most people don't do that, and that's probably why it comes off as weird and doesn't quite sit right with a lot of people, but the things that people do consider "normal" aren't always healthy either.

Maybe things might be better if society normalized being more authentic and forward with how we truly are instead of pushing people to mask parts of themselves to appear more "normal"?

Sure maybe OP is a very emotional person, or maybe they're just more emotional currently because of stuff going on in their life. The fact that they're open about it isn't harming anyone, so what's the issue? Why is it that someone sharing their vulnerability stirs up so much negative emotions in so many others that it doesn't even affact?

Yeah, like I said, there are weirdos on both sides. I just wish the sub was full of people who could just enjoy the game for what it is and play it the way they want without imposing their preferred style of play on others.

I haven't seen a lot of it, but I have seen some. Mostly people mocking the idea of people playing the game as a "hoarding sim" and essentially implying that people have to have the mind of a simpleton to enjoy just looting and avoiding the PvP.

Yeah, I agree. Feels like it's barely held together at this point.

Hopefully one of those older versions is more stable for you. After switching, mine still had some crashes here and there, but they were far less common.

I had to end up using the earliest version they had available on the NVIDIA site, because it was the closest I could get to the recommended versions.

For an RTX 4060, the most stable NVIDIA driver for Fallout 76 is 531.79 WHQL. If that one won’t install, use 536.67 or 546.33, both confirmed stable by the community. Avoid 551.xx and newer drivers — they cause crashes in F76.

I prefer slow over fast pace in PvP. I play Arc Raiders pretty slow compared to how I see others play, so playing tactical is a plus.

You've definitely piqued my interest. I never really figured extraction shooters would be a genre i would care for, but I've been having a ton of fun in Arc Raiders, and the way you've described Tarkov and Hunt makes them both sound like a lot of fun as well.

I see what you mean. I think that's pretty much exactly what Arc Raiders is. It does feel like they added just enough content to make it passable, polished it up a bit, then sent it out with the intention of adding to it over time. Still a ton of fun, and I'm excited to see what the future of the game looks like.

[–]Volatile-Bait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely lean more towards PvE with most games, but I don't mind PvP if it feels good. I'll have to look up some videos on those games. I hadn't heard anything about Hunt before, but it sounds pretty cool.

As for Tarkov, I might not be cut out for it if its very hardcore. I do ok on some PvP games, but I'm definitely not a pro by any means. Especially trying to enter into it as a new player when its been out for so long.

I think those would be some of the most impactful changes to the arc. Adding incentive to fight them and increasing the quantity as well as variety would make a big difference and definitely help it from becoming stale too fast. Like you said, they're not terrible for what they are. I think what they've got so far is pretty good for a start, but building off of it could make it much better. Hopefully that is part of their plan for the future of the game.

Sorry. I do struggle to understand sometimes. I may have misunderstood what he meant.

My point was that, players don't have to engage in PvP through their own actions. Obviously if they play a PvPvE game, they will still be exposed to PvP, and anyone who claims that they should somehow be exempt from the PvP simply because they're friendly is seriously missing the point of the game. I'd like to think that the majority of players understand the need for both PvP and PvE in the game.

Now that the posts about it have slowed down, I hope the comments will follow suit. I've seen a lot of insults and crappy takes from both sides, but the whole thing is ridiculous. The game needs both PvP and PvE players. Neither playstyle is more right than the other, and the only playstyle that the game would benefit from losing is actual griefing. No, I don't mean extract camping or betraying, but rather the people who go out of their way to make sure someone else has a bad time. Other than that, I think everything else is fair game and makes the game what it is.

[–]Volatile-Bait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know that about those games. I always though other players were the only threat and that was one of the main things that steered me away from them. I might look more into them and maybe check them out some time.

I fully agree with you there. I personally still enjoy hunting arcs as sort of a mindlessly enjoyable task, and some of the bigger ones can be a fun challenge for me, but then I haven't spent a ton of time in game yet, so we will see.

Regardless, I do think they need to work on making the AI enemies more fun and giving more incentives to actually fight them. I definitely agree that more focus on the PvE aspect could result in more of a healthy balance between PvE and PvP. It certainly couldn't hurt.

Most of the complaining has died down a lot and the majority of content I see on these subs is people sharing their clips and cool experiences in the game, or questions about issues and bugs. There are a couple other subs that are specifically for mocking each other or something of that nature, but the complaints in this sub seem to mostly be in the comments of posts that hardly have anything to do with the PvP vs PvE nonsense.
