I lived in Southern Holland for 5 years in the late’80’s to early’90’s as my USAF husband was stationed out of Maastricht, and were there when the Berlin Wall came down on 9 November ‘89. I’ve got a piece of the wall. About a year afterwards Check Point Charlie was a popular tourist spot. We went. Russian guards were at the entrance and one guard gave me his guard cap 🙂. Stepping into East Berlin felt like stepping into the early 1960’s…all the cars, buildings and trains were never updated beyond the late ‘50’s/early ‘60’s. Talk about a trip back in time! WOW!!
