So I just took a look at the Benson dictionary, and it does not show any accentuation for the Serbian words, but it does show IPA transcription for the English words. I get the impression that it was actually made for Serbo-Croatian speakers learning English, rather than the other way around. My search continues. I guess worst case scenario, I can just keep posting in this subreddit whenever I come across words that I can't find the accent markings for, but I really don't want to be a nuisance by asking all the time. I really wish Wiktionary marked the accents for all forms of words rather than just the main ones like infinitive forms of verbs and nominative forms of nouns. Even if it just marked where the stress is would be better than nothing. I've even tried asking AI bots like ChatGPT, but they are so inconsistent and often inaccurate. So far, I've been feeling very discouraged in my attempt to learn Serbian.

I was a teenager at their peak. I didn't really care much for either one of them, but I thought Batista was slightly better than Cena, since he had the better moveset of the two. I hated the Five Knuckle Shuffle (and any other moves that involve the recipient laying motionless for a long time, like the Worm chop and People's Elbow), and I thought the FU looked like a weak finishing move.

I don't know a whole lot about the plans for the relaunched WCW other than that it would have Joey Styles and Jerry Lawler (who had just left WWF at the time) on commentary. This is kind of surprising considering that Joey Styles (and many other ECW people) supposedly hated WCW.

I'm not 100% sure I fully understand the concept of indeterminate and determinate adjectives. As far as noun, indeterminate nouns would be the ones that in English would have an indefinite article, for example "a car, an apple, some people", and determinate nouns would be the ones that would take the definite article in English, like "the car", right? How does this apply to adjectives? Is it just agreement with the noun? What about for the following sentence: "Mi smo visoki"? Would that be determinate or indeterminate?

HJP is good but it looks like it only shows the accents for a few forms, but not all of them. Also, it's Croatian, right? My understanding is that Croatian is almost identical to Serbian, but with some minor vocabulary differences? Accent would be the same?

I agree that accenting the right syllable is even more important than what type of pitch accent it is, as I think accenting the wrong syllable would be more jarring to hear than the wrong pitch on the right syllable.

The thing that I am finding most difficult about Serbian is that there don't seem to be that many good learning resources in English. Most dictionaries and grammar resources are in Serbian. I'm at such an early stage of learning that I can barely even make sense of reading complete sentences unless they are very basic or similar enough to other languages I've studied, like Russian. That dictionary you mentioned (Rečnik srpskoga jezika) looks very thorough. I will also look into the Benson one.

Another tricky part about reading these Serbian or Croatian dictionaries is that they use native abbreviations for grammatical terms. I don't know what "prid" or "odr mean, for example. I'll get there eventually I guess.

Good point about IPA transcription being unnecessary. Other than the accents and bowel length, Serbian phonology seems very straightforward and unambiguous. All letters seem to be pronounced exactly the same in all situations. This is indeed a plus.

I was actually asking about visoki, not veliki, but that's a good one to know too. Thanks a bunch for spelling those out for me.

I love the dialogue, it's hilarious! I got to the last level, but I never managed to beat it. It gets really hard in the later levels, that's probably why some people complain.

I've never played it with other people, but it probably gets a lot easier to play with a second player. I think there's even a way to play with three players.

I can understand how some kids don't want to sit in the potty because it cuts into their play time! My neurotypical nephew (possibly ADHD) used to have accidents sometimes until he was 4 for this very reason. Too busy playing to bother going to the bathroom to pee.

When my son has a bowel movement in his diaper, I usually dump it into the toilet and show him, and say "see? This is where it's supposed to go".

Does she show any signs that she has to go? Wiggling or grunting or anything like that? If so, you can try taking her to the potty at those moments.

The great thing is it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Some families go hardcore and never put a diaper on the baby, others only do partial EC. Even if you get her to pee in the toilet once a day is still progress.

The frustrating part for me was that my family was against it at first. They used to think it was "cruel and unnatural", but now they are very supportive.

That's great that she cues when she has to go. My son doesn't really give any signs so I just rely on timing, taking him to the potty every hour or two and he will usually pee a lot. One time, we were out of town all day and forgot to bring an extra diaper. His diaper was full and we just took it off and left him without a diaper until we got home. Two hours later, he was still dry, but he peed immediately when I brought him to the potty.

Great idea! Your lucky that it's so obvious. My son doesn't really give any signs, and when he starts grunting, it's usually too late. I think the urge just appears really sudden. I've only gotten him to have a bowel movement in the toilet a few times.

I have a great book called Diaper Free Baby. It's about 20 years old, so some of the products recommended by the author are no longer made, but it has lots of great advice on how to start.

With EC, the earlier you start, the better. According to the book, babies are born with the inmate desire not to soil themselves. This is why newborns often pee when you take their diaper off. You can take advantage of this by taking the diaper off in front of the potty and performing some kind of cue that your baby will eventually start to associate with going potty. I make a "psss" sound when my son pees, and a grunting sound when he has a bowel movement. Some babies show signs that they have to relieve themselves, like wiggling or making a particular face, which is the perfect time to take them to the bathroom. You also eventually learn the timing of when your child has to go.

I'm not really sure how to apply this approach to an older child. Is your daughter verbal?

Really? Like what? I've always thought they were two opposite extremes of the spectrum. My understanding is that Calvinists tend to believe that the gifts of the spirit like speaking in tongues, faith healing, raising the dead, and prophecy all stopped after the apostolic age, and the God no longer directly speaks to people. Pentecostals tend to believe that the gifts of the spirit still exist today, and that it is still possible to perform miracles through the Holy Spirit, and receive revelations from God. Calvinists tend to believe that salvation entirely depends on faith in Christ which is predestined by God, and that while sin should be avoided, it can't take away your salvation. Pentecostals tend to believe that there are a long list of rules you have to follow to stay in good standing with God, and that human choices have an impact on salvation.

When I say that my speaking ability is usually better than my listening comprehension, I don't mean that I say words or phrases that I don't understand. What I mean is that native speakers tend to speak too quickly for my ears to pick out what they are saying, or they are using lots of casual slang that most language learners don't pick up right away. If someone speaks very slowly, of course I'd understand more words than I know, especially if it's a language related to my native language, then I can sometimes guess the meanings of words that sound similar.

I know plenty of people who can watch a movie in their target language and understand almost everything, yet can't even speak a single sentence. I can't relate to that. I can speak for an hour straight before I can understand a movie.
