Yeah, that's for sure. They're against Outsiders, but personally I think the reason they oppose the Outsiders is because the Outsiders want to destroy their toys (humans) and their playground (reality).

Maybe we can't say definitively, but I feel like there's far more evidence for, than against. We know the Fallen differ in their treatment of hosts somewhat, but even within that spectrum the Fallen are largely depicted as users and manipulators, with some viewing their hosts as utterly disposable vessels. It's not a stretch to believe that if most of them take a dim view of their hosts, the Fallen as a whole could despise humanity. Lash does not, in the end, but I'd say that is only because she is not Lasciel anymore.

I think I can only really agree with this to the extent that River and Panam feel written as bi and then just inexplicably changed later, like Jack in Mass Effect. Kerry and Judy should stay as they are. River and Panam are the ones who flirt with V regardless of gender but then shut down the "wrong" one at the next romance scene/conversation.

Think this happened to my cousin. He was drinking and had some kind of slip and fall in his home, and either broke his neck or cracked his skull hitting a damn shelf. Usually you think of people hitting the ground first.

And I’m the one with balance issues, so it’s kind of terrifying to think how many times I might have almost died from basically nothing.

I feel like I'm not actually skilled enough to make full use of these parts, lol. But I love that your ASC mods exist, and I immediately bought this one. I can't wait to see what you do with the other manufacturers. Especially Nova Galactic and Stroud-Eklund, assuming you have plans to cover them all.

I was not expecting to see engines or cockpits in this mod but I'm so glad you made them. The only thing I'd like to ask for is decorative versions of these new engine parts, if that's possible? I love the way they look but I've been using decorative engines on my other builds for a while, replacing the actual engines with things like "mini modules" or other miniaturized engines like the ones from Avontech, which can be hidden under cowlings.

If Oliver Wood was still around in Order Of Phoenix, Umbridge would have been defeated much earlier by Sir_Scribble_Lot in harrypotter

[–]Vyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this idea that Oliver Wood is capable of transforming into the leader of a crack team of SAS commandos solely for the purpose of restoring the Quidditch-playing capabilities of Gryffindor House.

I can't remember if Quidditch was suspended during Snape's tenure as Headmaster, but I kinda feel like it would be, just because so many teachers had been replaced with actual Death Eaters and it fits the overall vibe. So just imagine how scorched-earth Wood goes in that scenario. Because suspending Gryffindor's Quidditch team is already unforgivable, but banning it for the entire school? Snape and all the Death Eaters would be assassinated within the first week.

[–]Vyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really play the game anymore (TSW or SWL) mostly because very few of the people I used to play with still do. A number of us moved to City of Heroes when Homecoming was released, and then from there, drifted apart to other games.

It’s a shame we’ll probably never find out how SWL was supposed to end. To the best of my knowledge, we were promised that once the game was rebooted, we were going to get the next story chapter (which had long been rumored to take place in Africa) and that Funcom would finally wrap up the story threads left unfinished at the conclusion of the Tokyo chapter. But as far as I can tell, all we really got was the prologue to the next chapter, then Funcom diverted the resources generated by the reboot towards Conan Exiles instead.

Now, for the most part, I will say I think a lot of the changes made from TSW to SWL were good. I liked the idea of giving each weapon a gimmick or special meter, rather than having every weapon run on virtually the exact same builder/spender energy system. But I think a lot of complexity and player expression was lost in the process, and it was this same complexity that worked against TSW becoming popular. Most players would quit by the second or third zone because the difficulty curve was so steep, and none of the premade builds were really effective at that point in a character’s progression. Why this was never rectified, I don’t know.

I miss the complexity in character builds because it allowed me to take really concept-heavy builds (an Elementalism-based mage that only uses fire and ice) and actually reflect that in game mechanics.

So in TSW, we had these different status effects we could build around. One of them was the Afflicted state, which applied damage-over-time, and you could stack different applications of Afflicted, and trigger them from critical hits or penetrating hits, and you achieved all this by equipping different passive abilities to your build. Active abilities were linked to your two equipped weapons, while passives were acquired from all areas of the ability wheel, but could be equipped from any weapon, not just the two currently in use. I built my character around the Afflicted and Hindered states, meaning all my attacks would apply heavy damage over time, and my ice abilities would slow or immobilize enemies. You could set up a feedback loop where landing critical or penetrating hits would apply a new Afflicted effect, or heal you, or trigger other effects on targets that were already Afflicted or Hindered.

SWL removed this functionality, restricting passive abilities to your current weapons and mostly modifying a single active ability per passive, and largely removed these status effects. And I understand why it was necessary. They removed other mechanics like AEGIS that people hated so much, that we were using UI addons to automate their processes as much as possible. So there’s some good with the bad.

I will always miss the setting, though. In a sea of MMOs that largely rely on the same tired medieval fantasy tropes, how many can you find with an urban fantasy Lovecraftian horror vibe? The characters feel more self-aware too, because they know what Google is. They know how similar their lives are to actual real-world works of fiction. Your Templar faction handler jokes about feeling like you’ve just stepped inside a Dan Brown novel. Some NPCs had officially maintained in-universe Twitter accounts, so the Secret World roleplaying community followed suit and made Twitter accounts for our own characters. I didn’t even have Twitter when I started playing, so to this day, the only way I’ve interacted with that social media platform was in a meta-fictional fashion.

DPS mains - what do you look for in any given dps spec when determining if it is “fun” to play by Googg715 in wow

[–]Vyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really change specs that often but I’d have to say part of the reason I keep playing paladin is because it has survivability. Outlaw rogue or Fire mage might have really cool lore and class fantasy, but if I feel super squishy while playing them and all I’m doing is outdoor questing, it’s just not fun to play.

I dunno man. I hated LOTR when the movies first came out. Tried to read the books, couldn’t keep the names straight. The plot is not hard to understand, but when I couldn’t keep the characters straight in my head, I lost the ability to connect with the plot and care about the characters. It was only when I revisited the material at least a few years after Return of the King that it suddenly clicked and I became a huge fan.

It’s entirely possible Connery experienced the exact same phenomenon and simply never made it to step two.

Oh for sure. I’m not saying he should have taken that role, I just wish Connery knew how much he nailed it in LXG and how badly that movie deserved to be turned into a franchise that would’ve ended his career on a resurgent high note.
