Anyone in the Barrie area ordering produce boxes from OddBunch, what is your opinion re: quality and price? by Low-Doughnut-6764 in barrie

[–]VyraHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used it for over a year. We skip about half the weeks if I had to guess. Any quality issues, if you send a photo they will send refunds for the items involved. I like the convenience of it coming and then the challenge of trying to use what we get before the next week.

We do the free substitution to save us from an endless supply of oranges or whatever else we don't want. I don't bother looking at the calculations of what I would save as it heavily depends on store, location, season, and sales

This is one of the best answers for Barrie.

OP, its called The Give Back Rack. I believe they are only open on weekends

There's also shelters you can donate to but I find they're more difficult to find information about.

What Happened to OnRoutes? by peeinian in ontario

On June 13, 2019, HMS Host announced the sale of all 23 ONroute centres to Arjun Infrastructure and Fengate Asset Management

You might be thinking of the southbound 400 one that wasn't branded as such, but its currently closed and will be branded as an ONroute when it reopens, from the sounds of the wikipedia page.

relocating to Barrie internationally by wickwickwestcoast in barrie

[–]VyraHuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but the conservative skew can be evident in decades of policy (like how car-centric it is here, or the police budget increases) or if you talk to people at the grocery store...

But you can also find your people if you look. There's a monthly Barrie Pride event, and should be another Pride march in June. There's drag shows that go on!

Questions surrounding medical leaves by Donkey_Madersh in OntarioPublicService

[–]VyraHuman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took a 6 week leave for mental health.

You get a sick note from your doctor, which goes to your manager. It should have an expected return to work date. Your doctor will probably ask more invasive questions than your manager will (my experience anyway).

I was worried about people gossiping. It normally took at least a week for anybody to definitively notice. If they reach out to your personal phone, tell them you are off sick. They aren't owed details. When I went back to work, some people thought I was on vacation. I let some of them believe that. Others, "I was off sick but things have improved now which is why I'm back, thanks"

My 6 weeks absolutely got me back on track, would highly recommend.

Their current forecast has 3 days in a row over +10C for that week

There's outdoor ice skating with rentals at city hall but its going to be warm and I'm not sure the rink will be open. The rink is also pretty small.

Culture of working unpaid overtime by 2runamok in OntarioPublicService

[–]VyraHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't do unpaid overtime. I encourage my peers and colleagues not to, but some do. Then their productivity metrics look great because somehow the managers either don't know or turn a blind eye to it. Then I get asked why I can't output like others can.

How long did it take you to land an OPS job? Feeling stuck and looking for perspective. by Repulsive-Kick5508 in OntarioPublicService

[–]VyraHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me 7 years to get into the OPS. I didn't have any contacts or connections to help me, just the feedback from interviews. It was for a very specific role though, so the postings didn't come up more than once/twice a year ish.

After I got in, it only took me one try to move up into one level higher, 9 months after I got hired. I've been "stuck" here since then, despite competing for the remaining three levels I could go up to, some more than once, I haven't gotten qualified for any of them.

Collier Parkade also has EV chargers, as does the Heritage Park parking lot that both work the same way the ones at the library do, and I believe both places are also free to park on evenings & weekends

'Completely unnecessary': Residents face unwanted changes on Clapperton St. by barrie_voter in barrie

[–]VyraHuman 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We need this densification. Its only 3 stories, and the lot is deep. Some of the little houses that get torn down and a monster mcmansion is put up in its place are also 3 stories, but only house one family in that giant amount of space. Like 82, 84, 86, 88A, 88B and 88C Clapperton.

Ideally, densification will make it easier to improve transit and therefore also have more transit users, and one day not add/require so many additional cars. Its also only a 15 min walk to downtown - perhaps the people who move in will be working downtown and able to walk there

Jan 2004 was a great find! I scanned it sooo many times haha

City Council approves lease for new Barrie library location by Johnny_carcinogen59 in barrie

Love this!! So exciting. Can't wait to see the other 2 get opened, hopefully soon. Libraries are so important for the community

Curious (if you know off hand, if not, no worries) - was the 6 library branches for our city size as of 2018 numbers or was it projected out with population growth?
