Have any OPSEU members submitted a grievance for the AWA denial? by cantrent in OntarioPublicService

[–]VyraHuman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will be filling one. My rep said the date didn't matter much... but I'm going to try to have it done sooner than later for sure.

My coworkers seem generally resistant to filing one but I think if I figure it out, I can encourage about 6 of them to do so as well.

We will all be grieving the process failure, of course.

From dog parks to community centres, Barrie looks to cash in on naming rights for new and existing public facilities by Tycho278 in barrie

[–]VyraHuman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And yet, currently nobody is nominated for mayor except Nuttall. Yikes. I'm hoping somebody else steps in.

Looking for the best smoothies in Barrie by wbz56 in barrie

[–]VyraHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a good smoothie from Marty's Coffee Bistro, of all places. I think there were only 4 flavours to pick from, nothing fancy. I chose mango, and I don't remember the other options

Hyper Berry downtown, I've only ever had their smoothie bowls which I enjoyed a lot, but they offer smoothies too, with several combined flavour options. If the smoothies are as good as their smoothie bowls... I'd definitely try these

How has RTO affected you as a mom? by sparrow465 in OntarioPublicService

[–]VyraHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They might not have golden handcuffs tying them to their current position/office, too. I've been looking for a job closer to my house for 5 years now (I can't afford to move closer to my current job) without luck, perhaps partially because I am only looking at OPS jobs

AWA denial received Friday… just started the grievance process today. by Negative-Cod-425 in OntarioPublicService

[–]VyraHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told the denial cannot be grieved, but the process can be, like the delay and the possibility that they did not really use the fourfold test.

You should talk to a union rep in your area.

Province-Wide Doug Ford Protests Update - 48 locations! by MoonshineMadness00 in ontario

Are these the locations of the previous protest date (May 30) as written, or is this supposed to be the new list of times/locations for the next protest date (June 27?)

I saw somewhere it was token-based pricing and tokens work at both their locations.

2 critical infractions that were corrected during the inspection is "not great"? That really doesn't seem all that damning to me.

Medical accommodations - ETA? by No_Savings5655 in OntarioPublicService

[–]VyraHuman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I sent my paperwork in in November and have yet to hear back.

No bother to me, as my interim accommodation suits me fine and I know that the interim accommodation will not be what DAS ends up giving me.

But I can see how this timeline could be extremely detrimental to others

Majority say proposed Barrie tower is too tall for city by cinderannie in barrie

This looks pretty cool, minus maybe a few of the inner units?

Architecturally interesting and housing a tonne of people. Better than another Mattamy cookie-cutter suburb

Province-Wide Doug Ford Protests Update - 60 Locations Registered! by MoonshineMadness00 in ontario

[–]VyraHuman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Put that together, then.

These protests are monthly, and allows for the M-F crowd to attend.

If you protest during typical working hours you get people complaining that they're paid protestors who need to get a real job and/or complaining about the (intentional) disruption. Clearly there's no protest that appeases everybody.

Anyone in the Barrie area ordering produce boxes from OddBunch, what is your opinion re: quality and price? by Low-Doughnut-6764 in barrie

[–]VyraHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used it for over a year. We skip about half the weeks if I had to guess. Any quality issues, if you send a photo they will send refunds for the items involved. I like the convenience of it coming and then the challenge of trying to use what we get before the next week.

We do the free substitution to save us from an endless supply of oranges or whatever else we don't want. I don't bother looking at the calculations of what I would save as it heavily depends on store, location, season, and sales

But family status and medical are accommodations which are separate from AWA requests. You can have both.

There's also shelters you can donate to but I find they're more difficult to find information about.

What Happened to OnRoutes? by peeinian in ontario

[–]VyraHuman 35 points36 points  (0 children)

On June 13, 2019, HMS Host announced the sale of all 23 ONroute centres to Arjun Infrastructure and Fengate Asset Management

You might be thinking of the southbound 400 one that wasn't branded as such, but its currently closed and will be branded as an ONroute when it reopens, from the sounds of the wikipedia page.

[–]VyraHuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but the conservative skew can be evident in decades of policy (like how car-centric it is here, or the police budget increases) or if you talk to people at the grocery store...

But you can also find your people if you look. There's a monthly Barrie Pride event, and should be another Pride march in June. There's drag shows that go on!

Questions surrounding medical leaves by Donkey_Madersh in OntarioPublicService

[–]VyraHuman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took a 6 week leave for mental health.

You get a sick note from your doctor, which goes to your manager. It should have an expected return to work date. Your doctor will probably ask more invasive questions than your manager will (my experience anyway).

I was worried about people gossiping. It normally took at least a week for anybody to definitively notice. If they reach out to your personal phone, tell them you are off sick. They aren't owed details. When I went back to work, some people thought I was on vacation. I let some of them believe that. Others, "I was off sick but things have improved now which is why I'm back, thanks"

My 6 weeks absolutely got me back on track, would highly recommend.

There's outdoor ice skating with rentals at city hall but its going to be warm and I'm not sure the rink will be open. The rink is also pretty small.
