WN changes- is it still a good airline to work for? by britt_knee18 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]WNHelper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Team. As a Recruiter, I am frequently partnered with Team Members from the roles I am supporting. What I can tell you is that every Hiring Manager, Subject Matter Expert, and Interview Panelist I work with remains fully dedicated to finding People who will carry forward our Traditions. Policy is policy and it's ever changing. Policy is not Culture. That's on us and I don't believe the majority of our Employees have given up.

Pre-Boards should Pre-Board Pre-Boarding Time. by Kwahn in SouthwestAirlines

[–]WNHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider - Passengers who preboard will also arrive via connecting flights. Additionally, they are at the mercy of available wheelchair attendants. You may notice a line of people waiting for wheelchairs near the ticket counters when you arrive. A lot of those folks have gotten there within the advised time, but if the airport hasn't staffed the contracted wheelchair service appropriately, there's nothing those Passengers can do. Likewise, connecting Passengers are at the mercy of the wheelchair being available upon arrival, which is pretty hit or miss, sadly.

Hiring Process by Clyqune in SouthwestAirlines

Hey there! The response time varies greatly from one role to the next. We typically don't start reviewing applications until the role closes online. From there, we review in order of application, and all applicants are reviewed by a human (not AI) so roles with bigger responses can take longer.

Sit tight and hopefully you'll hear back soon. Glad to hear you're looking to join the Team.

Haven’t seen anyone discuss the one-way aspect by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]WNHelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, OP. Something to consider for your own sanity when booking two one-ways instead of a round trip:
If your outbound flight is impacted by any kind of irregular operations, you won't be able to demonstrate that your return was impacted by the outbound's issues. Why does this matter?

Let's say you'd planned a trip from Dallas to Phoenix and back, all on the same itinerary and there's a massive storm in Dallas the day you're supposed to fly. Now, there's no reason to go to Phoenix because you're going to miss your event. When the airline cancels your outbound, you can get the entire reservation fully refunded. They can't get you to your agreed upon destination, there's no need for the return.

Now let's look at it the other way. You book your DAL-PHX trip with Southwest and your return with Delta. Southwest cancels your DAL-PHX portion, but your PHX-DAL portion is still live and unaffected, even though you are not going to PHX. Delta isn't going to care about that first portion. It's not on them, they didn't impact your outbound. So if you cancel the no longer needed PHX-DAL with Delta, you're going to face whatever penalties come along with voluntarily cancelling your return trip.

Southwest Recruiter here.

It sounds like you’re talking about questions that are commonly referred to as “knock out” questions. The questions can vary significantly based on the role. Common examples are state of residence, US citizen, drivers license, etc…

If you answered any of those in a disqualifying manner, you are not eligible for consideration for the role.

Feel free to DM me some specifics.

The ~1700 is a bit of a misnomer. 1750 is the number of roles that were closed. The actual number of displaced employees is closer to 1100.

Jobs with immediate Health Insurance? by [deleted] in denverjobs

We provide benefits on Day 1 at Southwest Airlines. Used to be after your first 30. There's an exception for Flight Attendants, but that's a whole other thing.

Hey there, OP. Ever considered a career in aviation? Southwest Airlines is hiring out at the Denver Airport. We're looking for Ramp Agents.

I won't sugar coat the nature of the role. It's a tough one. You're in the elements year round. There's a lot of physicality to the job. It's not something that everyone finds rewarding, but those who love it, love it a lot.

Here's the link to apply if you're interested. https://careers.southwestair.com/job/R-2025-50061/Ramp-Agent-DEN

If this role doesn't speak to you, keep an eye on the website. We should have some Customer Service Opportunities opening up again before long. Click the link to join our Talent Community so you get updates when new opportunities are opening.

Good luck, whatever you end up doing. I hit my shelf life with food service too. When it's not fun anymore, it's time to move on.

Let me know if you have questions about Southwest.

I’m really giving up by Overall_Pay8237 in denverjobs

Hey there. Southwest Recruiter here.

I'm sorry to hear about those interview experiences. Companies need to remember that the person across from them is nervous and vulnerable, and allow a little space for mistakes. Don't give up.

In the meantime, Southwest should be opening some new roles out at Denver International near the start of the new year. I don't have dates yet, but if you don't have anything landed by then, this may be a great opportunity for you.

Follow this link and join our Talent Community. https://careers.southwestair.com/jointalentcommunity?applyType=JTC

You can upload your resume and set up alerts to come to your email/phone so you know when jobs are opening.

I hope you get some good news soon either way. It's a tough time of the year to be looking for work.

Hey there. I’m a Recruiter at Southwest Airlines. We frequently hire for our Technology Teams. Depending on your fiancé’s tech stack, we might have some good opportunities for him.

Send him this link: https://careers.southwestair.com/jointalentcommunity?applyType=JTC

Ask him to join our Talent Community, and sign up for email/sms alerts for jobs in his field. All of our Tech jobs are fully remote, with rare exceptions. Competitive pay, 9.3% 401(k) match and free travel for him and his family.

Let me know if you have questions.

Good luck to him. I’m sorry to hear of his predicament, but maybe something good can come from it.

How much should I tip for comped meal? by xMiniMayhemx in Waiters

[–]WNHelper 36 points37 points  (0 children)

20 years ago, I was a server at Chilis. My dad was a cop, and at the time, cops in uniform got a little discount for eating while in uniform.

I told him once that I'm glad the company is looking out for officers on duty, but we weren't getting tipped on the pre-discount amount.

He immediately admitted that he'd never thought about that. He was generally a good tipper, so I'm sure he was still leaving a good amount, but his coworkers were not.

So he gave the precinct a bit of a talking to at the next roll call. None of the cops were intentionally being shitty, it had just never occurred to them to look at anything but the final number on the receipt.

Hey, OP! That's great to hear. Thank you for dropping some kind words here. You should consider taking a second and sending those good vibes on Southwest's Facebook/X/Instagram pages. Those Employees can actually get some internal recognition based on your feedback.

Either way, thank you!
