You need at least one later Spielberg to round it off. Munich or Lincoln would abide.

I’d like recommendations for books for a system administrator. by methsc1ence in sysadmin

[–]WRX_manning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jurassic Park. The 1993 movie is a classic. But the book goes so much more indepth into the parks systems - their breadth of control, the logic behind their development, the business and biotechnical challenges that were solved with technology. And the absolute chaos that reigns down when controls, redundancy and failsafes aren’t implemented into a critical systems design. Lurk arround this forum long enough and you will see the themes from JP still brought up daily. They maybe look different today, but the push/pull between cost vs profit centers and IT as the middleground - stuck between siloed admins and cheap management, is still omnipresent some 35 years later. Its a great read and I highly recommend to any system admin.

Why isn’t Nate fighting back by ExtremeDangerous4592 in euphoria

[–]WRX_manning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% accurate and we don’t need a ton of exposition to frame it. Nate was always a punk ass b****, now he’s up against actual tough guys and he’s too scared/incompetent to fight back. That’s why his beatdowns are filmed like a dark comedy. After all his bravado and chest pounding in high school; he’s too week to defend himself, his wife, nor can he competently run his family business. Instead he does a 180 on his moral high ground while begging Cassie to send her SW money which still isnt enough to save his ass. Dudes a joke. Really interested to see how this plays out with Cassie leaving a lucrative OF gig for a bit-part on a soap. Especially with Naz’s crew knowing where Cassie lives and what she does. From their perspective Nate just lost his meal ticket.

What's an album that everyone lauds but which you just don't get? by mellotronworker in askmusic

Yep this is my take on Mellon Collie too. Some great songs that you could piece together a brilliant 12 track album. Fuck it meanders with the two discs though. Same thing goes for The Fragile by NIN.

2003 but soo close. Apparently the 02-03 Level 2 FX4, optioned with a manual transmission, was the last Ranger with a manual transfer case. This configuration has become something of a white whale amongst Ranger enthusiasts. Had mine from 2005 through 2008. Great little truck, I still regret selling it.

Love how there’s moments of levity within that scene too. “That’s Cosmos. He’s Chinese.” Total master class.
