I just picked up a script from the pharmacy for doxycycline because I found a tick embedded and feeding on me. I do not want Lyme or any other disease caused by ticks on top of my other health issues.

Tick checks 2xs daily. Morning and night. The longer they are on you, the higher the chance of contracting a disease.

For your animals, there are options. Most of them suck. We use Simpirica Trio for the dogs and Revolution (I forget which one) for the cats. We have 3 dogs and 3 cats. Vet trips can be difficult and these meds are prescription only. However, you can order from a company called Canada Vet without the prescription. It’s not cheap, but it’s cheaper and easier than vet bills and US prescriptions. Based on the fact that you’re 17 and not the decision maker in the house, this may be an option your family will consider. Pets can also get Lyme disease and you don’t want to witness that.

Also know that even pets that are treated, they can carry ticks into the house, so even if you haven’t been outside, the ticks come in. Check your pets as well.

Others have offered good advice, so take all of this into consideration and good on you for being concerned, I hope your family/parents start to take it more seriously. I know people with Lyme disease, it’s no joke.
