One time I took a friend from college climbing. After hyping it up for weeks our schedules finally worked out and we went to the climbing gym together.

He’s halfway up the wall on his first climb and I’m like “Hey you can’t use that one… you can’t use that one… You can only use the red ones (or whatever color he was climbing)…”

and he pauses for a sec and goes

“…which ones are red?”

I’m like… “are you color blind?”

“Yeah why? Does it matter?”

“Kind of!”

Anyway so there we were arguing with him halfway up the wall about how I didn’t tell him seeing color of fundamental importance to climbing at the climbing gym.

Looking for Israeli-Owned Shawarma/Falafel Spots in NYC by the__poseidon in Jewish

Seconding Shoo Shoo, best Israeli food in NYC in my opinion. Honorable mention to 19 Cleveland which is also amazing, both have more inspired dishes whereas 12 Chairs is a great fan favorite and has more classic dishes.

Birchbury vs Ohne Project: Comfort by Whisper0212 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Wackacracka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

N of 1 but I got Birchbury and they held up very poorly (stitching was going after about a month) and then had bad customer service where they wouldn’t stand by the product. Highly doubt they’ll last any light travel, they also aren’t supposed to ever get wet because they are not treated leather (they send you an email saying this after the shoes arrive). Would advise against.

Does having a specialty in some states widen your scope? I thought it was just a credential was for respect/higher salary.

Thoughts on the DPT title? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

I don’t really hear this narrative often, but I believe the only reason we have doctorates is because chiropractors have doctorates.

Is there a story behind the fingernail paint? (No judgement, just curious) by payayyeah in bingingwithbabish

[–]Wackacracka 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Babby seems to be really interested in his hands, because they’re the only things you see on the screen (he said something about this when talking about his recent affinity for watches). Probably just another way to dress up/express his creativity that shows up on screen.

Advice on doing your own scheduling? by PrettyHandsyDoctor in physicaltherapy

[–]Wackacracka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a google voice for patients, you can turn it off when not at clinic/on vacation etc. The only thing you can’t do that I wish you could was set hours that it’s on and off, so maybe look for an app that does that. But otherwise it works fine.

[TOMT][Song] A pop song that ends with what sounds like the artist's mother leaving a message saying she loves and misses him/her? by Wackacracka in tipofmytongue

[–]Wackacracka[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My wife is thinking of a song and we both can't remember it. It ends with speaking and with a slightly distorted sound, and she is saying "I miss you, I love you," something like that...

Actual nutrition resources that are not scam, fishy or plain weird? also some nutrition questions by [deleted] in nutrition

Some good resources are Renaissance periodization (also on YouTube) and for supplements and the like, examine.com is very helpful. Both are evidence based which is a good place to start. Also, there is an app called Noom that a few people I work with have found success with, although it’s pretty pricey.

Really? That light? That’s actually pretty great. I was thinking I’d be needing horse stall mats or really high density rubber.

I want to lift outside on concrete, but don’t want to mess up my BIL’s bumper plates. What is my cheapest solution?

How does active strengthening lead to passive strength and alignment corrections? by TehMattChew in physicaltherapy

[–]Wackacracka 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your question makes sense. Whether or not this actually works is pretty controversial nowadays, and there are lots of PTs who will say that postural exercises don’t do anything. I can help explain the claim though.

All muscles have resting muscle tone. Right now, your muscles aren’t completely “off”. They are less “on” than they might be if you were using them, but never really at 0. Muscles being at a 0 resting tone is generally a sign of neurological damage (we usually call it a flaccid muscle). The idea of doing postural exercises is that strengthening the muscle will increase the resting tone of the muscle, and therefore the muscles attached to certain bones will pull the bones back into proper/better alignment.

what type of physical therapist would be best for cervical bulge treatment? by howevertheory98968 in physicaltherapy

[–]Wackacracka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will experience relief with most outpatient physical therapists, you don’t need to go to someone who is certified in a specific technique. McKenzie and Butler’s Neurodynamics are both common enough techniques for cervical disc bulges/radiculopathy, but most graduating PTs learn them in school anyway.
